  1. I got my start fishing Lake O off the Ghost with Cas back when I was 14 years old. Every year, we'd haul butt up to Rochester from Bath and camp in an RV next to his boat, trying (and failing) to sleep the night before our charter. The man was an inspiration. Truly a legend and a helluva teacher.
  2. I love fishing from my kayak. When a friend of mine wants to buy a kayak for fishing, I tell them this: spend a couple of hundo on a roto-molded boat and see how much you use it before plunging into the "fishing kayak" market. Some of those kayaks can cost thousands. I fish out of a Wilderness System Pungo (not cheap, but not outrageous even new) and it's all I need for the Finger Lakes and Mendon Ponds. My point is that I've seen some really nice boats that don't get much use, and kayak fishing isn't for everyone. If you're already experienced and just looking for that perfect ride, enjoy! There're some really nice fishing kayaks being made these days.
  3. This really seems like a no-brainer to me. If Eagle Harbor is ten doors down, a slip is the way to go. Why would you risk storms, low water, damage to your prop, and maybe not even be able to access the boat under certain conditions? The cost of a dock system would likely outweigh the cost of a slip, to no real advantage that I can see. I'm sure it can be done, if you had unlimited $$$. I'm less certain of the advantages and it might get seriously bad. IMHO
  4. Good job! Don't get the kings too used to seeing all that new stuff, though...leave a few stupid ones for us. Casey's laker was almost one of those, "And again, why aren't lakers eligible for the grand prize?" moments. Really nice fish, if you're into Kobes. I heard Gambell was jealous.
  5. Way too early to be talking like that!! There's still some hot spring king action to be had...I hope. That having been said, we stroked it yesterday too off Sandy. Two lakers and a brown, working anywhere from 20 out to 160. Beautiful day, but wow no fish. Clear water and calm. 47.5 on the surface, 44 down 30'.
  6. I agree with Justin, no reason to go lighter than four lb test. It's a situation-specific line. You need to change out the last six feet after every trip. Not UV damage, just abrasion.
  7. Yup, the dreaded nanofil knot. The stuff is simply too slim a diameter to pick apart with your fingernails. We carry some plastic toothpicks to work the knots out, but even they have been defeated by the dark side... I really only use nanofil with super small stuff that's hard to cast otherwise and on Seneca, where I want to cast a country mile. Otherwise, like Justin said, PowerPro is superior for most applications.
  8. It's horrible with knots, being so slick. You need to tie a special nanofil knot or it will slip. Tying on a fluoro leader with a double uni solves that issue and makes changing lures easy. The nanofil knot isn't hard to learn, but you have to pass a loop over the lure prior to tightening.
  9. Wow. Can't anticipate that happening.
  10. We ended up going with Amish Outfitter's planer board tow line on our Otter boats after finding an Otter floating a couple years ago. It ended up being Jeremy's and made its way back to him. The AO line is something like 500+ lb test and we run the shock cord with it too. If we lose a board, send somebody to salvage the boat too... I hope your buddy gets his back.
  11. Yeah, I figured to put some foam in the bottom and then I wouldn't beat the crap out of my flasher and camera. I decided that I wanted one with a better lock, though, so this one has to go. I thought that someone on here would get a sweetheart deal since the lowest I can find this is $100 elsewhere, but if you're not local, the $ for gas probably isn't enough to justify it.
  12. Nobody can guarantee more than a boat ride, but it's a good time to be alive
  13. Wow. No takers? I suppose milk crates work I hate Craigslist, but tomorrow that's where it goes.

    Crappie bite

I don't think it's legal to sell them downstate? I know perch get sold up North, but haven't heard of anyone selling them locally. I'd always been under the impression that if there's a limit on a freshwater species, you can't sell them. I'd be interested in hearing from somebody who knows the facts. Not that I'd want to sell them myself, but just FYI, you know. Oh, and if anyone wants to share a pm about crappie at Honeoye, my inbox is available
  15. Brand new. I decided I liked a different brand better, so I'm left with this now. Half price at $50; pick up only or I can meet you at Sandy Creek in Hamlin. If you post here, please message me your contact info, too.
  16. How can you get the copper-wire tangles from he!! if you only run lead-core? So much fun trying to salvage on a Saturday afternoon...
  17. 100' coppers can have Torpedo divers added to achieve just about any depth you want, without having to reel in 600' of copper! I can attest to the fact that it's a deadly combo. Take two, they're small

    Hot Keuka lure?

5" Kalin's twister tail on a 3/4 oz glow jig head. Any plastic in white worked just as well as any other though, IMHO. Strangely enough, I had one morning where the only thing they'd hit (rather than just chase) was a grub where the tail had been bitten off. My buddy was having trouble getting them going, bit his own tail off and started catching fish.
  19. I just fell out of my seat, I laughed so hard.
  20. It casts a country mile but costs $$$. Makes no sense for flipping or ice fishing IMHO but if you want distance, it's a good call. You'll need to use a nanofil knot, which is just a doubled overhand knot through the eye with the lure passed through the loop prior to tightening. And you'll have to change the last three or four feet when it gets beat up...having the line while really lets your see the abuse that part takes.
  21. That's a real shame. Nice buck. My buddy makes fun of me, but I won't bow hunt in the rain. It's just too easy to have something like this happen. I'm glad you managed to find the rack...at least now you know it died clean.
  22. I left a nine-point rack that I shot a couple of years ago on the dog-training table in the back and it took the squirrels two years to gnaw it to nubs. I guess it's like a salt lick to them. When I shot the squirrels with my bow, did that count as "baiting"?
  23. Well, at least they reported on it rather than ignoring it. There's going to be some happy C.O.s and sad fishermen if they start wetting lines, "any time after midnight" though

    Sodus

Hey Dylan, I think what he's getting at is that pike have been out of season since March 16th. Tip ups or tip downs are fine at five per guy. Oops. Stay on top. Gator
