  1. I have a butt section that lacks a ceramic insert on the second guide up, nearest the ferrule. The top section is broken, so it's useless to us. Just needs a new guide wrapped on. The 1802 rods were relatively cheap to begin with, good rods, but not expensive, so I don't know how much hassle you want to go through to get this thing. It's yours if you want it. We're out of Sandy Creek halfway between Rochester and the Oak. You might be better off just replacing the whole rod, especially if nobody local comes through with a butt for you. You can pm me if you want.
  2. Very nice!! We weighed one ~30 that had a red belly, too...looked like it had spent the summer at scout camp
  3. We probably have one of those in the basement. Where are you located?
  4. I sure hope not. Please be sure to post an update when you get this reconciled.
  5. That's funny, our 250 used to be a 300, too. Must be catching. There isn't as much adjustment on the TX-44 as on the smaller boards. The weight runs along most of the length. The clip seemed a little odd to me when we first ran them, since the tensioner faces toward the board rather than away from it. I guess that make sense if they're not designed to release.
  6. Great looking mount!
  7. I heard Keith left a pair of pink fashion sunglasses and a pack of Virginia Slims next to the computer... Great tournament, guys! Congrats to Jay and crew.
  8. Yeah, that's my take on it, too. The downriggers and rigger rods alone would total the $2700 she wants for everything. However, at 25% of retail, it sounds like a really good deal. Makes me want to buy some stuff for my already overburdened boat Even at 35%, it's tempting. Good luck selling!!
  9. I get the ads, too, with a notice that we're in a 30-day period where the domain either gets renewed or becomes available.
  10. Hey, Sharknado-free...that was good! No bites, though. Hope this isn't foreshadowing of Saturday.
  11. I have a new, unused antenna for a Moor Subtroll. It's an "upgrade" from Torpedo Divers, but I've been told by Moor that it only works with the solid core cable such as that sold by Torpedo, and I'm not going to switch to their cable. My mistake could save somebody some $$$. The antenna was ~$70 and I'll let it go for $35. Otherwise, it becomes a very expensive X-mas tree ornament. Any takers?
  12. Yup, I've raised this issue directly with Dave Chilson at the awards ceremony several times in the past. His reply to me (paraphrased) was that the intention of the rule was to prevent people from bringing kids on board just to run extra rods. Maybe this rule needs to go by the wayside, now that the three rod rule is in effect? He told me that as long as you aren't running rods for the kids, they can catch fish, they just can't enter fish they catch in the derby. I guess he doesn't think a kid under ten can actually catch a derby winning fish on his/her own. Regardless, I'm opposed to the use of the term "observer" in the rules, since this has a definite meaning under pro-am rules. That it, kids as observers shouldn't touch the rods at all. Having seen one of my good buddies disqualified for having his unregistered nephew (< 16 yrs old) on board, I'd hate to catch the winning fish only to have the "interpretation" change. So, it seems like the choice is to fish the derby or fish with your kids. It's an easy choice, eh? It'd be nice if Dave would amend that rule or provide clarification on a public forum such as this one. It might avoid future misunderstandings, especially since there seems to be some confusion regarding what you can and can't do. Maybe somebody should e-mail this thread to Dave.
  13. At this early juncture, the call is for Fri-Sat-Sun to be completely, 100%-guaranteed Sharknado-free
  14. I'm in need of a reputable gunsmith near Rochester. My duck hunting guns have been sorely abused and are in need of some TLC to get them cycling regularly again. I used to go to the guy in Avon, but that's history. Thanks for the advice: feel free to pm me with suggestions.
  15. What, weathermen can't forecast the wind and storms 10-days in advance? Tell me it ain't so... I'd be satisfied with one day in advance, if it was accurate once in a while. I can't count how many times "10 knots or less" blew gale-force fours and fives over the bow.
  16. Could I see a few more pictures, please?
  17. I think it has something to do with the shape of the line. No mixed reviews here...the fleas were the worst I've ever seen this past weekend. LundSSS posted ten feet+ on one of his wire lines. And I never had to pick them off the rigger rods. Frankly, I was surprised at how well it worked on Sunday, and we've been fishing it for a couple years now.
  18. 20 lb FleaFlicker line is easy to work with, and we had zero issues with fleas on the line this past weekend. Heck, there were fleas sticking to the hooks of the lures, there were so many out there. But none on the line. The stuff is gold. A topshot would work, but we only have six rods spooled for rigger fishing, so I buy a 2500 yd spool every couple years and fill them. Personally, I like the line, period, and have no reservations fishing it year round with a small swivel and 8' fluorocarbon leader.
  19. We never found a really good picture today. Lots of bait inside 45'. The temp pushed up as we went shallow, but the browns didn't want to play. One small one came on a 300' copper in 115'. We managed a king in 55', 70' back on a wire diver with a white Spin Doctor and crystal Fox fly and another in 215', 72' down on a rigger running a similar rig. The later fish was 32.1 on the scale and sits in 5th place in the summer derby. As Keith said, "Even a blind squirrel finds a nut somedays". Oh, and a bonus steelhead that hit a King of Sting on a 150' copper with a 4 oz Dive Bomb off the board in 215'. The fish hit just as the king hit the deck, so he was almost an afterthought. Off the water at 9 am to weigh in the fish and because it got UNFREAKIN' RIDICULOUS hot and muggy. No flies, but the fleas were unreal. Flea Flicker line is the greatest!!
  20. Anybody for $40?? Side bets are welcome
  21. The wise Ninja teaches his students everything they know...but never everything he knows
  22. It's my most favorite time of the year!! Let the smack-talking begin! Jason who?
  23. How about braid off a board off an outrigger? Light on the foam, please I've fished with one of those Sandy Creek guys who runs a big Dipsy off an outrigger. It's actually pretty sweet with a four diver spread. And when it rips, it'll make you take notice....it's like a cannon going off.
  24. Hopefully the dreaded event came and passed without incident Good luck getting out there this week!
