Need Rigging/set up suggestions from the pro's
Paul Czarnecki replied to gpearce's topic in Tackle and Techniques
Gerry you should seriously consider taking an on-the-water class with a reputable charter captain. It will take years off the learning curve. At the very least you should sign up for the LOTSA salmon school this January in Niagara Falls. There is lots to learn and anything you can do to expedite your learning will make your trolling experiences that much more pleasant. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United -
Have You Been Spooled? Here's a tip to stop it.
Paul Czarnecki replied to WillCFish's topic in Tackle and Techniques
I'll be the first to throw the BS flag on this one. While the technique "may" work with 60-80 feet of line out I hardly think a king nearly 300 YARDS away is going to feel you "tapping" the rod. Wire might impart some vibration to a fish that far away but mono certainly will not. For years big marlin anglers have simply turned the boat to put a belly in the line. The drag of all that line coupled with the drag of the reel pulling the fishes head to one side will stop anything. It works on 1000 pound marlin and it works on 28 pound kings. I believe there will be a "meet and greet" scheduled for some time Friday evening with the instructors and any school attendees that would like to join us. It will be just an informal gathering with drinks, laughs and who knows what else. Watch for more details here as the date gets closer. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Before everyone panics keep in mind that the Lyme Disease spirochete is only viable in this area during the summer. Once October hits the chances of contracting Lyme go down exponentially. Even if the tick you're bitten by carries it. Also, the big, ugly "dog ticks", red ticks and "wood ticks" or keds are not known to carry or transmit Lyme. Remington Hypersonic shell questions
Paul Czarnecki replied to EYE SPY's topic in Waterfowl / Bird Game
Here's a couple rules for steel shot and waterfowl.... 1. It's possible to over choke steel shot-- especially with bigger shot. Improved cylinder will give you the best patterns at "killing ranges". 2. Although "speed kills" there is such a thing as too fast. Most shot sizes have a max effective speed right around 1300-1400 fps. Any faster than that and you will have football sized holes in your pattern. 3. Contrary to popular belief, and what the know it all at the ramp told you, ducks cannot be effectively killed CONSISTENTLY, beyond 45 yards. You can get lucky and make an occasional "long one" but you will miss or wound FAR more than you kill. 4. Spending $30 or more on a box of shells to burn at ducks is just a waste of money. Buy " good" factory ammo and leave the "special" crap to the googans on tv that get it free! Just my opinion after 37 years of killing ducks. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United -

Rod is gonna have his toes in the water and his ass in the sand. Besides jimmy, Rod never listens to me anyway. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app -

Deer scrape all year round--especially in the aforementioned "community scrapes". I have pics of a buck working a scrape the first week of July. Your "early" scrape doesn't mean an early rut either. It happens the same time every year. It just means that there are deer in that area that are communicating with each other. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Super long dipsey Leads
Paul Czarnecki replied to darkfisher's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
If you are happy with your catch rates using short diver leaders then, by all means, continue to use them. I have plenty of room to "back up" but still occasionally have to "leader" a fish. It's not that hard---make sure the fish is played out (as it should be) grab your 40 or 50# leader and drag him to the net. Two people are better than one for this but I have done it many times solo. It's fun! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
The harbor mouth is being dredged again. Most of the charters came out of the water this week. I think there might be 2 or 3 running final trips this weekend. Fishing at the wall is very hit or miss right now. There are a FEW fish left in the 80-100 range but they are tough to trigger. The general consensus among the experienced oak captains is that it's over for the mature fish. Unless you want to kill next years crop of kings fish the wall, the pier or the river. Me??? I'm putting up tree stands and duck blinds! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

You can still have good catches during and after an east wind. However, the effects of an east wind on Lake Ontario are far to complex to explain in a single post on here. I would urge you, and anyone else interested, to attend the LOTSA Salmon School next January. We will be discussing that very subject, and many others, in depth. fleas

They are not bad everywhere. They are concentrated in certain areas with an abundance of 60 degree water. One good blow and they will disperse. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
