I've always found the first day, or at least the first few hours of an easterly blow, to be VERY good fishing. The fish are on the move and hard to stay on but they are definitely eating. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Really Jimmy?? Did you open the crate of bananas, the loaves of banana bread, the banana nut muffins and the banana yogurt?!?! Seriously, I hope everyone had fun and learned something. Plans are already underway for a bigger and better 2015 event. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I like Rays recycling idea but I've always used Saran Wrap. Between the half dozen or so open tubes of various caulks and silicones in the taxidermy studio and the two tubes on the boat I have a lot invested in caulking. Saran Wrap keeps it working! Oak Orchard Open - June 6th-8th

Nope....no way to tell without actual entries. However, all indications are pointing to one HECK of an inaugural tourney! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app -

Canadians have machine guns? I have NEVER seen an armed Canadian "gun boat" and I've spent a lot of time around the niagara and fishing in Canada. That said, the Canadians changed their laws and they are taking "trespassing" very seriously. Follow the law and you'll be fine. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Calcutta Niagara Pro/Am
Paul Czarnecki replied to reelxite's topic in Tournament Talk, Shows, Events & Seminars
A "Calcutta" is a side bet placed between captains on the outcome of the actual tournament. Most Calcuttas are $100 or $200 and are cash only. You will need to enter at the captains meeting the night before the event. "Most" captains enter for a chance to win some extra cash. A few superstitious captains refuse to enter a Calcutta because they feel it brings them bad luck in the tourney itself. What it usually does is cost them several thousand dollars in tax free CASH.....right Yank? Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app -

You better be VERY prepared if you're making that trip. As already stated besides a Canadian license you will need an outdoors card, passport or enhanced license and a working cell phone to call customs after you cross the invisible line. ALSO......everyone on board has to be "Canadian legal"--- meaning no DUIs, PFAs or any felony convictions of any kind EVER! It's almost as if they don't want our money any more. Coming home to Erie from the Oak yesterday morning there was ice as far as you could see from Erie eastward. Some sheets were stacked 30 feet in the air and laid on top of other sheets. It looked like white houses as far out as you could see off Barcelona. You guys chomping at the bit to have them remove the boom should be careful what you wish for. When that boom comes out the ice ends up in our lake and , depending on wind direction, could shut the entire west end down. It happened in the late 80's and early 90's--olcott and Wilson were completely shut off! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Have you considered taking a charter in the port you fish from? A simple 4 hour charter with a knowledgeable, reputable captain would take years off your learning curve and eliminate a lot of your frustration. Most captains have no problem answering any questions you may have and some of us (shameless plug) actually offer on the water classes to rec fishermen such as yourself--even providing you with a "goodie bag" of hot baits at the end of your class. Just a thought..... Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Ditto on the crystal ball! But if you're looking for kings at that time of year you're looking on the wrong end of the lake. The best king fishing of the year will be in the western basin in mid to late May. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
