You guys are WAY overthinking this. Most meat rigs can be run at any speed that flies and spoons are run at. The exception would be big "okie" type flashers which generally require a slower trolling speed. E chips pulling meat can be run at the same speed you would pull them with flies. Spin doctors are the most forgiving of all and can be run at almost any speed. The secret with meat is the "roll". Figure that out and you'll find the "secret" to fishing meat. I wouldn't count on it. They've been stocking Atlantics for years and they have never "taken" and they never will. It's a foolish waste of funds on a fish that doesn't want to live here anyway and is ill equipped to deal with the kings, browns, lakers and steelhead. Almost all "unpleasant" surprises are caused by not being aware of what's going on. Letting a long copper out on a turn. Free falling a diver. Allowing a fish to actually get into another line before moving it. Situational awareness solves most problems. Most. [emoji15][emoji849] Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
I've never had leadcore or copper become fouled by fleas. Maybe a little at the knot but that's it. It's one of the advantages of core and copper during flea season. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
Fluoro leader is attached to mainline with back to back uni knot or spro swivel. Your slider/Cheater will slide right over the connection down to the mainline spoon. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
Mid July is a great time To fish Orleans county. Bald eagle may have rooms completed by then but if not there are lots of cottages and lodging just to the west at Point Breeze. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
I always wanted to enter the SSS but couldn't because of charter commitments at the Oak. If it were moved, even for only this year, my charter would probably fish it and if they enjoy it would be more likely to make the trip to Sandy in 2024 when the water goes down. Everything likes an "edge". That said, the edge could be on the surface or below the surface. Satellite temp graphs are useful tools but only when they are well detailed and you keep in mind that quite often kings can be a half mile from the "break" and still orienting to it. If a fish isn't bleeding, puking or pooping it cannot lose weight. Where would it come from? For a fish to lose weight through dehydration it would have to shrivel up--even then it wouldn't be near as much as you think.
Team Free Spirit needs an observer for this weekend in Wilson. Must be available Thursday eve for about an hour and all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Free Spirit is a 10M Trojan so you'll be riding on a big comfortable boat of comparable size. We pay $75 per day. (Contrary to what some might tell you). [emoji15] Text me at 716-390-0085. Rain doesn't bother fish. They're already wet. The biggest factor limiting success at this time of year will be the big NE winds we can get. East or north east winds will push the kings back into Canada. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
Back to back uni knots work well when joining two sections of blood run. No need to respool if some fleas show up. The past several years they haven't been bad enough for long enough to even warrant the change. I've been running straight Sea Flee for several years now.
