A few seasons ago I tried to go cheep, went with 600ft.of wire and mono backup,a good king hit and ran the wirer out to the knot witch was still in the guides. I started to pick up line and he took off again, the knot caught in the twillie tip and I lost wirer, diver, spinnie and fly. that's about $60 worth of wire and tackle. I went to Dicks and got two 1000ft spools of 40lb test wire on sale for $30 a spool, I could have saved $60 bucks.

WTG, I know I should have gone out yesterday. . -
FLX,I fish that area Sat. but the weeds were bad. Guess I put the core away to soon, looks like that setup does well without riggers.

You had a great day,WTG -
WOW,that's a hell of a thing to happen this early in the year, maybe Gill-T had a good thought or you could lay on the floor and have someone walk on it. . good luck what ever you do.

How did the fleas and the core go together, I didn't run core because of them. I ran a spin Doc off the rigger down 40ft. with a pink- purple Alpina diamond on a slider that took a three lb.rainbow. Did you come into the launch when we came in?

33Canuck, Witch shore did you start out on? I started on the east side and didn't mark anything but had two hits top 30ft. in good temp. The only fish I marked were 60ft. down in 250fow and they were spread out. You guys had a very nice morning. If you saw a 16ft lund with one rigger over the motor that was us.

Nice looking fish. The east shore was loaded with weeds in the morning . We got off before the heavy boat treffic.

Any time, It was fun watching you fight that laker and the dipse together. It was a good morning on the big pond, nice south wind. We launched at I bay at 6:30 am started out into the lake and bob said I don't have any gas and it was full the night before so we went back and loaded the boat back on the trailer and fill it up.Some one broke into two of there cars and emptied the boat tank. He never fished the big lake out of his boat,it had two riggers and balls so I took my gear on his boat and started his training trip.I got the ball on the rigger and there was on releases so I put out two dipses, one at 240 the other at 300,trolled out to 350fow, never marked a thing, trolled back to 250fow and hit a screamer, bob took the rod went to work, He couldn't move the fish at all it was a stalemate. I had to pull the other dipse and chased the fish down, he had 500ft. of wire out, got him with in 40ft of the boat and let him fight it into the boat, got him along side the boat and the hooks puled out . It looked like it was in the high 20s, a long wide fish. end of story.

Going to hit the big lake in the morning, we'll see what that costs me. I'll post the out come.

Tcon,I don't have to get flats I haven't worked in 14 yrs, that's why it hurts to lose all that stuff.

Well we headed for the lake at4am, didn't want to fight the week end crowd . Were on the water by 5:30 and setting up on the east side, the wind was light and it was the first time I've been able to fish the east shore with out getting blown off to the west side. We setup one rigger and two dipses, Green froggie spinnie and green hammer fly on rigger with Pink- orange alpina diamond slider, checked temp. gauge , it showed in the 40deg zone at 40ft. down so I set the ball at 35fow and put the dipses out around 75 and 100ft. with spoons. Not to long the slider goes and we boated about a 3lb. rainbow.reset the rigger and worked that area over for nothing, so we went north awhile and didn't move a line. Changed the dipse to white glow spinnie and white fly, and the other to a grape watermellon out 200ft. and the other out 300ft. Hooked up on the spoon and lost it, reset and moved into 240fow and the spinnie fly went, it was a good fish, it took my partner Luke ,a newer member quite a while to bring it in but we got it in the boat, it was a 14.6oz laker and the dipse never released. It was a costly morning I was bring in the dipse and got careless and got it in the prop. and lost a diver and lure, then there was a kink in the wire and it broke with the diver spinnie and fly. Oh well

how to keep lakers alive for the derby without a livewell
W.W.IV. replied to dremarquis's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
I have a 50QT cooller with a small bilge pump hooked up to 1/2" pvc with holes drilled about 1" apart around the top of cooler. It works well on eyes and the warm water fish, I think with some ice and a thermometer to keep track of the temp. it might work. I use about 8-10 ft. of wire with gator clamps to hook to the battery when needed. -
Tcon, its a terrible thing to have to drive by a fishing hole like that, I'd keep a can of fix-a-flat handy for those occasion.By the way was there a boat following along the lake. ?

Funny thing, I've had my best days with a east wind, and poor days and some days nothing worked. Try trolling north and south with the east wind, use elect, motor if you have one and keep it slow, that works for me, some times.
-
Nice going, hope you don't get skunked the next three trips out. .

Nice going.

Camoman, try running your spinnies and fly off the ball and stack a dipsie about 20ft above the ball and out 30-40ft, that way you can go as deep as you want with the dipsies and run what you want.If you haven't done it before it may take a few tries. good luck. -
Finding the Thermocline
W.W.IV. replied to TyeeTanic's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
MarkB, go to the classified ,there's a Mac Jac temp probe fore $30. I think it goes down to 150fow and its marked in 10ft.increments and you don't have to wait, you push the button and it will give you the temp where you stop the probe. I still use one, I use about a 6oz sinker on it. You don't have to pull it up to get another reading just keep going down. Find the fishes comfort zone that your after and set your lines in it below and above it.I don't think your paying attention to what the other guys are telling you or you may not have spent $10. IF money is tight slow down and build up a stash, witch the board and you will find some good buys on hand cranks or elect. riggers and maybe a down temp. prob. this is not a poor mans hobby, Take your time and pay attention to what your reading and keep learnig good luck . -
