Hey Indian, theres so many panfish in honeoye 8mil.fry don't go far. I fished it a lot for gills and got two or three eyes and always wondered why I never marked any eyes off the bottom. we were fishing the west side north of the ranch for gill's and picked up a keeper eye,The wind started blowing pretty hard from the south, white caps on honeoye and what do you think, I started marking eyes 2or3 ft. off the bottom. We set up worm riggs and moved down and started drifting, we boated 8 eyes and lost that many. So I think the best time to fish eyes on honeoye is a very windy day like a front coming in. Oh a south or north wind might be best. Good luck what ever you do.

Joejv4, I know there has been luck jigging Mooching in the lake. Fair Haven is a good place to try it,I used to fish out of the bay and early in the season on those fogged in days when most of the boats were fishing the shore line we would head out deep,200fow out to 500ft. Well there were days when in around 200fow we would mark balls of bait and fish all around them180fow to the bottom, there was no wind so the boat would stay on top of them. We started to set up rods to try jigging for them but out of the fog came the thump thump thump of the engines from a tug or an ore barge, it sounded close and we couldn't see so we got the hell out of there. But I saw that several times out and never tried for them. If you did try for later in the season I'd stay away from the crowd and find your own fish. It's not that crowded on the lake any more. Try live sawbellies you might get them at a bait shop on the finger lakes. Give it a try. Good luck.

Thoughts on this Pro/AM Situation
W.W.IV. replied to Reel Scream's topic in Tournament Talk, Shows, Events & Seminars
You should have got right in behind him, maybe he would have taken the hint and moved off. Whats good for the goose is good for the gander so they say. That's why its called a Pro/AM,the pro's wouldn't do that. Would they? -
looking fore 4-5ft. VHF fiber glass antenna and cable. I don't think I want a 8ft. on a 16ft. boat. I have a 3ft. whip.

Well I was all set to go to Oneida lake this morning, the phone rang about 9:00 pm and one of my partners backed out, the one with the boat. I called my other partner to let him know we weren't going,we decided to try Canandiaqua again so we headed down to the south end about 6am. Launched about 7:00 am ran out to the east side and set up, one rigger, one dipse, two lines on the board. outside line back 125ft., inside 4color core, one spoon, one red bomber. rigger SDglow white green spotgreen fly down 80ft, dipsie out 240with glow froggie. trolled up to the first point, no hits, didn't mark bait or fish, cross back to west side and hit a nice laker 95fow trolled north hit another laker on the dipsie 95fow out 300ft. green silver glow SD green fly.Changed up the board lines, outside line back 125ft. 1ozlead black purple R-R, Core 4 colors 1oz lead with black purple frog. Steel head on the R=R and another laker on the core. Trolled up past the Condos to the point and headed out deep, marked one fish deep, worked the east side south for a while, marked a little bait and 2-3 fish, no hits, back out deep, no hits called it a day. Glade I could put the top up or we would have fried. Next time I'll try the north end wind permitting.

Hey mark, that's all some of the guys do is fish the weeds or shallow bars. They cast jigs or inline spinner rigs Carolina style. Give it a try, that's a long drive for three eyes, better bring some friends and stay a while.

FH. We did well with the black- purple gigs and then when the wind died we set up the spinner rigs and the electric motor but the bugs drove us off.

Launched from the north shore about 7:30am, hadn't been on the lake since last year so I did the unthinkable and asked a fellow fishermen that was limited out before we got the boat in for directions and colors,he was very helpfull (thank you bro.). We headed for the south shore and started gigging, It wasn't long before we had one in the boat, there were nets out all around us and then the wind quit and the bugs got so bad we called it a day. We ended up with 4 keepers and a short one went back.Could have had the three man limit if we didn't lose so many fish. The sunfish were Hugheee. The early birds had there limits and were on the way home before we started.

Yankee Report 5/20-5/22

WTG YT, great report, reminds me of the good old days when we fished the Pro Ams at Willson, two days off shore practice kings and steel pounding everything then Sat. and Sun, east wind and heavy fog. It was great but not as good as the smiling faces of the kids. -
I thought of dropping one of those dummy gernads on one of those bad boys deck But!!! ssssome poor slob on board would jump overboard and not be able to swim . There was three charters out of Catfish creek that ran 34fters that thought it was fun to crowd the small boats out. They laugh about it on the radio. They started to push a friend around and he got on the radio and told him if he didn't back off he would shoot a flair in his cabin. He never bothered him again. I'll bet Muskie Bob knows who I'm talking about. Maybe he's not old enough.
