  1. Back in the early 1990s at Wilson harbor for a ProAm.The first morning we saw a 16ft boat come in off the lake and tie up past us. He left the boat with a suitcase in hand, the next day it was the same thing. One of my crew was with the Sheriff Dept. and informed the right people and this person was picked up. Never heard what he was up to but he was coming across from Canada.
  2. Fishtails,I'd go with the extended rigger mounts, something to lean on in ruff water setting lines, two rod holders on both riggers. Also three holders on each side, never enough room for rods on a small boat, two for dipsies, four off the boards ,two off the weights, two stacked dipsies. That's 10 lines down .Put the board mast pole in the bow seat mount base. I'm thinking you'll need auto pilot. You don't have to drop 10 just because I would. . Hey the electric bow mount is a good touch. I'd like about a three-five on the back. .
  3. Has anyone tried the Sufix color coded line, I put 125ft. on my board lines last fall, no line counters,it 25ft. per color, 20lb test small diameter and stiff with 20ft 8-10lb f- carbon leaders. Haven't had a chance to try it yet. Also I have a spool of core 17lb. test I used for eyes, do you think its to light for the FLks trout.
  4. I had problems with trailer wiring not to long ago, not the same as yours, I had a bad ground and bad light sockets, the bulbs would work lose. You have a direct short. I have a new set of connectors (plugs), The plug wires take a beating and I find half the trouble with lights are in the couplings.I'd just buy a new harness for your truck, un plug the old one and plug in the new one and wire in the trailer plug.Don't spend any money till you check for a short the others mentioned .If all else fails maybe you should rewire the trailer, get rid of the old style lights and get LED lights. That will take care of the shorts and blown bulbs if you forget to unplug before you dip them into the water. Good luck Hey I just reread the other posts and that test plug Fsn mentioned looks good.
  5. I thought I'd start hunting Dogs about 5yrs ago, so I dug out my old trusty 218 Bee, I hadn't fired it since the early 60s. It was a great chuck gun,a friend loaded some shells for me with 22 hornet 45gr soft points. That little pill wouldn't go through a chucks head, but it would expload inside and it would be nothing but mush. So I went down to Gander to buy a box of shells, OMG $80 bucks a box. I couldn't afford to sight it in. So much for dog hunting. .
  6. If all else fails drill the heads off remove the plates from the swivel base and throw the cracked plates away. .
  7. Jsmac51,.you'd have to be a farmer to under stand that haywire twist. .
  8. I took a ride up to I Bay this afternoon, it looks like the ice is gone on the Bay. there's also a nice looking mud line out on the lake, its time. .
  9. Hey HM,if you haven't all ready thought about it and you have a roller trailer don't unhook the bow on the ramp,it might roll off before its in the water, thats bad for the gelcoat. .
  10. Thats a good read Jimski, The first time I got I trouble I was north of the Salmon river in a 16ft. alum. boat and had to run south to the little Salmon river, the hull cracked from rivet to rivet where the seat bracket was riveted to the hull and no pump. I started taking on water fast enough to sink if I didn't do something in a hurry and I was alone. I had to stop the boat and pull the plug and get the boat back on plane to self bail, it was scary but it saved my butt. The next time I was in my 28ft, BaHa coming through the channel into Sodus Bay and hit something and sheared the copeling at the tranny letting the shaft slide back to the stuffing box. No real danger, the pumps worked fine and I made it to the dock on one engine. I went down in the engine comp.and the water was poring in, i was able to get hold of the end of the shaft with vice grips and pull it back out of the box and stop the flow.I held the shaft in with the vice grips, I was able to go home and fix it the next day . Next time I was sitting at the dock and the pump started working, when it didn't shout off I started looking for the trouble, the wash down hose came off ahead of the shout off switch, had to pull the switch plate and attach the hose. That would have sunk it if I wasn't aboard at the time the two pumps would have killed the batteries, no shore power. . thanks for posting it.
  11. Took a ride down to the bay this morning, before we got any bait we decided to check the ice first.Drove over to third creek, it has opened up very nicely, the bay bridge is wide open, might be a good spot for some early crappy, drove around to Connleys and the ice is opening up all along that shore. We could see open water between Newark and Eagle island and the out side bay ( north end) is open. The next few days should finish it off. Guess I'll put the shanty away and hook up the boat and see if the light's still work. I know there's still some good ice out there but its not good enough for me. See ya at the boat ramp.
  12. Ouch, way to much info.
  13. Hey Skipper, your not posting while your driving are you. LOL.
  14. Wed. mar. 9. Hit Sodus this morning out of third creek, it sucked, fished from 8:00 till 1;30, YOU WOULD never know IT WAS GOING TO GET TO 40DEG. IT WAS WINDY AND COLD.started out lousing 2 big ones then got 3 keepers and the dinks took over, took the rest of the morning to get a dozen keepers. Four of us might have gotten 30 keepers.that's fishin. the ice is good but the creek is opening up, be carefull getting on and off. You didn't miss anything today Skipper.
  15. We had another good day on the Bay out of third creek in about 30+ fow. It was on and off all day and a lot of dink's ,but we ended up with about 95 good perch between three of us. We also got about a dozen white perch. If you ever tried eating them they can tasted pretty bad, but if you filet them and then cut along the lateral line and through the bottom half away you can through the top half in with the perch filet and you won't know the difference. . The creek is starting the open so keep your eyes open and stay safe. . Tip down were active with big minnows.
  16. Hey that's my honey hole!!!! .
  17. Have a safe trip Mark, hope the ice holds.
  18. Sean, glade you had a good trip.Sodus is my go to spot once the ice sets up. Hey try eye's on those jigs on and off through the day, they might not want them in the morning but kill them in the afternoon. Thanks for thew post. Mike.
  19. Your right Ben, it's a great board. Wish this info. was out there the first year or two the salmon started to run the Oswego and Salmon river, I had a 16ft. Lone Star, two old downriggers and a green box and not a clue how to catch a salmon, it was all about speed. That's when a 16ft. was a big fishing boat. Lets keep the posts coming. Mike.
  20. Hey Skipper, glade you had a good first trip to the Bay.Its funny how the bite changes in the course of the day. The post that brought you to the Bay was a banner day, they started out pounding 4" buckeye's and then minnows and eyes on a small white catty jig and then all they would hit were eys's, but the bite never slowed down, but it was mostly dinks through the middle of the day. I find on most days the average catch is 15 to 20 good ones, so you did well.Glad the post helped you out.If you want to make the trip again drop me a pm, I'm retired and can go anytime. Mike.
  21. Hit the bay this about 7am till 3pm, a little cool 7deg. but know wind and sunny . It was about the same as its been most of the week, start out with a few good ones and then some dinks and then nothing. After a few changes a few more good one's and move to another hole and some dinks and more good ones.Got most good ones on large Niagara's below 1\16 oz cleo's, firetiger, and other jigging spoons I can't put a name on. Ended up with about 18-20 eaters 10"13"s. Four of us did about the same. Plenty of ice 16-18"s and slick, need creepers, walking is great. Went out of third creek. stay away from the creek mouths and the docks.
  22. Great day on the bay, 8am4pm, bite was nonstop, caught perch from4"to 15". Kept 50 from9" up and my partner kept 45. The ice was good out of third creek, keep right of the creek, it was open Saterday also stay away from the docks there's open water around them.
  23. Nice catch B W. wish I was sitting next to you yesterday,I haven't fished the pond in 30yrs. I fished IBay south end from 34fow to 11fow caught 3-4 dinks, the walking was great and the ice was good and the fishing sucked but I did talk to a brother ice head that was doing well, good for him. Again BW nice work.
  24. Y-T, I had three batteries, one for the four riggers and electronics, other two were starters. But the bilge pumps ran off one of the starter bat. If the boat sat at the dock all week and the stuffing box was leaking to much water the pumps would kill one bat. I kept jumper cables on board to jump start that engine. It just a reminder to keep up the maintenance .
  25. No alewives in the lake.
