  1. Any of you guys ever hunt yotes on Rattlesnake Hill? That place was loaded with them and who ever picked up the area road kill deer was dumping the carcasses over the bank off the main road, I'd have to find my map to give you the name. I could see 40-50 carcasses piled up there.I don't have a 4x4 and I didn't think I would be able to get around in there after deer season so I didn't go back..
  2. OK guys, how often do you call in dogs and don't shoot because they might just be some farmers dog? Last Sunday I was watching at the end of a hedge row and a dog or a yote came through the corn field, it was on the dark side, all most black with a bushey tail and one hind leg. He pasted me and cut behind me down wind, he stop checked the wind turned and ran like hell. I think it was a old farm dog so I didn't try a shot. Do you shot if there's doubt?
  3. Well J ,I've been using a 18v drill for the last three seasons and it works fine for me on say 10-12" of ice, after that it eat up batteries, its a 6" auger and it might need sharpening.I use a DeWalt drill and there not cheep, you need one that locks in drill mode so it doesn't slip. Also they can be hard on the wrist if the auger binds up,you should buy a drill that stops as soon as you let go of the trigger.I'd want to try out one of those elect.24v. augers before I laid out $400, it might not handle any better than the gas auger. Good luck and be safe.
  4. Dandy buck,do you think that he might have been trying to keep his head warm???
  5. Danjr, is the blue tape covering up the bad shots. .The DEC didn't see that coming when they set up the BP season.I started out with a T/C Renagaid p/b 100 gr.pirodex, now I use 100gr.tripple 7 and 223 gram power belts and a peep sight,My son gave me his 45 cal.CVA kodak mag.with 2-7 scope because he liked to hunt with his T/C 54 cal. It just don't feel like B/P hunting with the modern guns.Good luck the rest of the season. .
  6. You know what I say Ray, keep trying!!!!!!. Those big guys will be a lot more fun with the smoke poles. Hey, I just finished shoveling a foot of snow off my roof, you telling me there's no snow down there?????. . Hey nice buck, hope the weather don't screw things up for you next week,it don't look good up this way. .
  7. KEEP TRYING RAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
  8. Guys the best way to to insure getting back a good batch is to find out how much meat is used in a batch and and take enough to make a full batch. I've seem some pretty sorry looking meat come in and I wouldn't want mine mixed in with it.I had mine done at Ive's Market Rt.176 East Fulton NY. He does 50lbs batches and his prices arn't bad. There's a lot of hands on work to Jims and dogs. They can't work for nothing. .
  9. Looks like you cut the stock off a rifle and call it a pistol. Nice buck.
  10. Good morning Bob 13,I also saw the news this morning and a 25yr. old man was shot in the leg on Hudson St. and that's not a hunting accident.I,m thinking your safer in the woods than parts of Rochester.
  11. Hey squirrel,if you think thats funny you have to be there and see it. About 20 years ago I was hunting a farm that was open to anyone but the rule was you didn't drive to the top of the hill if it was warm and the road was soft. It was cold that morning and four of us drove up and parked along the edge of the woods and went hunting, got a nice 6tp within an hour and drag it to my old Jeep wagon and went party tagin. One guy left and one kept driving in and out about 5 times and mudded things up. I had a feeling so I backed the wagon into the woods.(the back window didn't go up).Well that left me and the other guys CJ5 ragtop. The best part of this is the year before he got the thing stuck in the corn lot and tore the lot up pretty bad. That afternoon I heard the tractor and spreader coming up the hill,I could pretty much tell by the sound what was going on, I came out after dark and needless to say the front of my truck was quite fertile but when I saw that jeep I busted out laughing and sat in my wagon till he came out and grabbed the door handle, then I allmost pissed my pants laughing. He pulled his hand back and just stood there looking at it, like what the hell!!! That farmer laid about 3" of **** all over the side of it. I laughed all the way to the car wash. And thats a true story.
  12. Wow,those are some great eye's.
  13. Hey,Ray I had to give you a shot, and ya that hit was a little far back,I think he took an other step as as I shot.It hit just under the spine and took out the artery. That Winchester 23\4 gold 1900fps does a nice job.
  14. Didn't know if I would post this baby after seeing all the 10-12 pointers poster, but what the hell, why not.I got in my blind before light and looker into the ravine next to me and there's a fellow hunter 75yds bellow me but there's plenty of room for the both of us.We sat there till 11:00 and saw nothing, the guy bellow me packed it in and left.I was getting bored so I dug out my range finder and started ranging,it was 110ydsto a plateau on the other side of the ravine, not as far as I thought. I pored a cup of coffee and dug out a sandwich and decided I'd stay here all day if I had to. There wasn't much shooting going on all morning but that doesn't mean much ether. About 12:30 I spotted a buck hurrying down the other side of the hedge row about 75yds out and angling at me,it was looking good till i pulled the gun up and couldn't find him in the scope,35yds and I can't pick him up in the scope,DAM. I watched him go down into the ravine and up the other side to the plateau and he stopped,I got him in the crosshairs and squeezed the trigger and down he went. I took off my coat and headed to the other side of the ravine,He was down and out,a nice 7pt. After gutting him out I got him to the bottom but I couldn't pull him up the other side.I had to borrow a wheeler to get him up and out to the truck. Oh, the scope on full power,I turned it down to two and I got a full field again.
  15. Keep trying Ray you'll get a good one.
  16. About 3 seasons back, the last day of BP season I had 4-5 doe come in and spot me. maybe 25yds, all but one ran. At the time I didn't think about the way it moved till after I shot her. Both her hind legs were broken off at the ankle with her feet hanging by the skin. I'm thinking she got hit by a car. That's what I call tuff. Last fall I shot at a 4pt. but it was low and hit the breast bone,I could see most of the shaft sticking out, two inches lower would have been a miss. I got down and found the arrow broken off about 50yds away and no blood. I was standing there and looked up and saw a doe running at me,she passed about 20yds away and shortly here comes that buck right after her. I don't know how he made out with her but the bad hit didn't even slow him down,I felt a little better about a bad shot.
  17. Hey Andy, thats better readin than Sports A Field
  18. Andy, don't you have a shooting platform on that tractor .
  19. Well I took Chowder Out to fill a cooler with perch and eye's yesterday. We didn't find the perch, only half a dozen 9"ers a pickerel and a small mouth. Its going on 5:00 so I aimed the boat the bay my son kill them on the night before and only had one hit.I headed back to Maple Bay before it got to dark to find the launch. Hey Andy thats why it doesn't say expert after my name. Oh, my son saw us leaving the bay, said they hit a little later last night,he lost one and his buddy got five, Oh well. .
