  1. Hi Pete, i feel for you man, and you are so right about how much there is to tend to in order to keep everything working well. I was at geneva thurs am. I launched in the dark and my buddy and i had a great few hours of jigging when a fellow jigger (who i don't know) drove up and said they're about to tow all the vehicles with trailers. So i head back pronto, move my vehicle and later heard that a tow truck had been called. WTF!!!! there were no signs that day; i parked where vehicles with trailers always pard; and i nearly got towed!!!! I'm thankful to whoever it was that warned me (I wish i had gotten his name; he was definitely a cool dude). i've enjoyed your many posts, Pete. best, andre

  3. Hello All, i don't fish lake O very often (i mostly fish the flx). I know the 2nd pic is of a king. Is the first one a coho? the spots are only on the top half of the tail (sorry i didn't get a good photo of the gums) thanks, andre

  5. Hi all, i was trolling the North end of canandaigua, which is new to me. riggers down about 80 and then i'm into a hump that's 20 feet down. Major &^$&*%$!!!! hassle. I decided i really want a sonar unit that has both the capacity to mark waypoints and shows topo maps of area lakes. i'm considering the Humminbird® 581 i Combo Sonar/GPS (on sale at cabelas for $280). I have heard mixed reviews about the Navionics® HotMaps™ Premium SD cards. I'm curious if any of you have that card, and if so, how detailed are the contours of fingerlakes? Also, does it have many of the ADK lakes included? I presume the Lake Erie and Ontario contours are accurate and detailed? any input on the Humminbird 581i would also be appreciated. thanks a bunch, andre

  19. I'm getting prepared for the walleye opener and have a question for you all. i often troll shallow stick baits in 5-6 fow and often use a petzl headlamp so i can see what i'm doing (taking weeds of baits, tying knots etc). do you think that in shallow water wearing/using such a light could disturb the walleye such that they would be less likely to bite as i troll? if so, how do you deal with the problem? thanks for you opinions, andre
  20. Hi all, i'm a novice turkey caller. I can make a slate call sound quite good and have practiced with CDs with my mouth calls, but i want to buy some new ones and was wondering which brand you experienced callers prefer. thanks! andre
  21. seeing those soft plastics in the lakers reminds me of an article i read in In Fisherman about how bass that eat plastics often have compromised digestive systems that results in either poor health or death - another good reason for fisherman not to litter our precious lakes with anything non-biodegradable dre
  22. I want to take my wife to see the spectacle of the spawning walleye. Does anyone know if they are there now? or have they already spawned and left with this weird spring? thanks, dre
  23. you definitely want a stiff/heavy action rod, but one that is also sensitive (not a ugly stick!). i prefer a 7' rod but 6- 6 1/2 will also work. the brand is not that important as long as it's lighweight, stiff and sensitive. i got mine at gander mtn for about $60 and i've caught 100s of lakers on it equally - probably even more - important is non-stretch line, such as braid. in 100 fow, 1 oz jig is fine. i use 1 1/2 oz if fishing 130 fow or more. good luck!!! dre
