Your going to get a bunch of different responses about what down temp unit is the best, but everyone on this board should agree that some kind of down speed/temp unit is a must! I personally have a fish hawk x4d and a subtroll on my boat. I perfer the FH because I can't stand the coated cable. The new FH is really nice...

Wanted Sammy Pac 31 Spoons

Lots of luck to you.... The guy who initally made them was from Rochester. We were able to track him down ( up in Jefferson County). He only had a few dozen spoons left and we bought em all. He retired from making spoons about 20 years ago. Your best bet is to go to flea markets or watch EBay. Sent from my VS980 4G using Lake Ontario United mobile app -

Thanks Anthony.... The Miss has been very good to us for the past 21 years. She's tamed some real narly waves and has been the demise of thousands of Salmonoids. Up keep on older vessels can hard, but to me it's therapy. Lol.... Good luck out there ..... Sent from my VS980 4G using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
I wouldn't attach it directly to lead core. It will break the lead. I would attach it to the leader or backer. Sent from my VS980 4G using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Kayaker.... It was pretty cool out there. Steelies were swirling on the surface chasing bugs. Few years ago I fished the Niagara Pro AM with Hooked Up Bruce and Onocona Joe Kyle. Learned the surface program from those guys... Capt Kyle is tough to beat on those offshore breaks Sent from my VS980 4G using Lake Ontario United mobile app -

With all the nasty NE wind we've had, we decided to run off shore in hopes of a good Steelhead bite. Wasn't dissapointed whatsoever. We found a temp break from 51-47 out past 500 fow. Our best baits were....RED! Old school honeybees and the Sodus Point Buckeye Stinger were very good. Ran most of our rigs off the surface to 15 feet down. Slide divers, split shot rigs worked better than my riggers. Word of caution....we ran into a colder temp break out in a fog bank. It looked really good until we got closer and it was a scum line with a 30ft wide mat of Cottonwood. Thats stuff is no bueno. I will take fleas over that stuff all day long. Tomorrow looks like she is going to blow hard out of the NNE. That is sure to throw a knuckleball into the Temp conditions (right after the curvball from earlier this week.) Good luck out there guys.... and watch out for the floating debris.

If Im Brown trout fishing and they are on the bottom in deeper water, I might pin a cheater on my deep rig. Its interesting when a couple of 10lbers latch on to one rod set up.LOL. Like Sk8man said, the sliders work well when fishing steelhead. The whole idea about sliders is to have one bait in colder water (where Kings tend to lurk in Summer months). then your slider goes out on that same deep rod and, in theory, is in warmer water where Steelhead like to dwell. The thing you need to remember when fishing sliders is: Once the rod fires, leave the rod in the rod holder and reel your a$$ off until you get tight line. I use Diawa Saltist reels because they have a fast retrieval rate and really take the slack up nicely.

I don't run beads ...should I? maybe... I know some guys do. I think Ive only lost one or two spoons over the years from a coast lock snap opening when it traveled down to the main line swivel. My thoughts are that the bead will affect the action of the main line spoon... as I mentioned, a coastlock snap on one end and a Torpedo swivel on the other (they are nice swivels and aren't going to cost you an arm and a leg) end to the spoon. Just my opinion, am I'm sure there are pleanty of guys out there who do it different with the exact same results... Good luck out there!

They were chewing for sure. Glad you guys got your fish. Capt. Randy and Rick are great guys and really know thier stuff. The open dialogue and assistance we lend each other out on the water is what makes the Rochester Fleet stand out. I never understand why guys don't want to network. It makes a big lake that much smaller, and maximizes the client's opportunity to catch that fish of a lifetime. Ive fished almost every US port on the lake. They all have their great days . Rochester, which is the least know port, is probably the most consistant and diverse Ive ever fished. Tight lines...... -
