The Genny Salmon pens went in last night.. Good group of lake anglers busted their rear ends to get those pens back in the water this year. We are good to go for the arrival of our Kings the week of April 11. The Genny is an ideal spot for kings to survive predation. Muddy water hides them from aerial threats and the swift river current dumps an out in the lake at a pretty good clip. Have a great season! Sent from my VS996 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

None what so ever... It might be another terminal end that could possibly fail, however you won't get kinks in the wire when working on your gear ( changing out lures ect)... I change my #50 leaders maybe once a year... I check them every trip for wear marks... Plus I check the wire terminal end every trip.... The other good thing is.... If you get some Yahoo who sets the hook on your wire, there is a little more give depending on how hard they set the hook... I get alot of people who have never caught a fish on a wire diver. I tell people all the time that we don't "Sink the hook" but I always have that guy who thinks he's Roland Martin... Lol..... Sent from my VS996 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I put a piece of #50 mono between the wire and swivel leading to diver... Couple of reason why... #1... Can set my drags just a little tighter for better hook ups. The mono stretchs a little and acts as a shock absorber with hard hits.. With regular snubbers, I lost alot of fish... #2... Working on your rods or breaking them down for storage... No pig tailed wire. #3.. When flea season hits a couple rod lengths of #50 mono can keep alot off your rigs... If the fleas are really bad, it won't matter what you have down, they will stick... Hope it helps...Matt Sent from my VS996 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Slide diver question
Missdemeanor replied to hookedupf7's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I actually use both throughout the year... Now I love the small Chinooks... It's just cool seeing the rod get smoked real close to the boat... I have a theory why it works well in spring... As the boat goes over them, they swim to the sides and pic up that spoon close ... It doesn't work everyday, but more days than not.. In late spring when I'm fishing the upper column for steel on temp breaks, i'll toss out slide divers.. I won't run the diver back far ( depends on the temp break depth) but I might run the spoon back 50ft.. Whatever my rigger leads are, I run the slide divers back 25ft further. Deeper trolling I'm more used to regular divers... Not that the metal chinooks don't work, they Absolutley work mint... I just haven't put a lot of time in testing depths... I have a hard time experimenting on charters... New techniques give me anxiety lol... Pick a method of deployment and master it... More you run stuff the more confident you get... Slide diver question
Missdemeanor replied to hookedupf7's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
When I ran slide divers, I ran the regular size on the farthest out setting... Lure was 70-75 ft back... In recent years I've been running the Chinook #1 divers for Browns. Today we did well on browns running the Chinooks.. They were 16to 20 feet out.. Lures were about 8ft behind the diver.. There were times I saw the diver in the water next to the boat. Big browns aren't afraid of hitting next to the boat... Good luck this spring. Sent from my VS996 using Lake Ontario United mobile app -

How Many Downriggers do You Run ?
Missdemeanor replied to Fins 2's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Used to run 5... I got it in my head that the cleaning up of the lake made the fish more spooky. Went to 3 and haven't looked back... Now the depths I run em in change as does the patterns of deployment depending on the baits I'm presenting... I Definetly believe in the "Less is More" concept... Us paying attention to small details could mean the difference... Sent from my VS996 using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
Just picked up a 20 O/U ....American Tactical ... Very light... Choke tubes... Really nice Turkish wood furniture. Gun swings really nice... This weekend will be the first outing with it. All the online reviews of this gun are really good... For $450 it's a pretty good value. Sent from my VS996 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

That bear was a tough ole SOB... Some idiot shot him in the shoulder with small caliber round... Possibly a pistol or even .556 round... He also had porcupine quills all over his front legs... He's going to make an awesome full size mount.... And I'm curious to try bear steaks Sent from my VS996 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

The bear measured 18 7/8.... Thought that was pretty cool. Can't say I would ever shoot another one... Maybe yes, maybe no.. Since the dates and Limits have changed with waterfowling, I've been looking to getting back into whitetail hunting... More stand time in my future. Where do I begin... I've been hunting all week in Steuben County. Bow hunted for a solid week... Friday, Sat, Sun, Mon I saw many different bucks. My friends and I have a self imposed antler restriction so I let a pile of scrub bucks go... I did shwack a donkey doe mid week. One doe and I'm good ... Now hold off for a mature buck... Opener of gun season... I'm set up at the bottom of a hill... Absolutely zero deer movement.. Out of the corner of my eye I notice a dark object quartering towards me and going up the hill in a thick portion of hardwoods... I can't believe my eyes... It's a bear! I pic a sliver of an opening in front of him... As soon as black fur appears in my scope, I send it! The bear disappears behind a blow down... I don't see him leave the blow down... I keep the scope on the blow down... I notice a black paw twitching.. "He's gotta be down" I keep saying to myself... After a few combat breaths, a few whspered phone calls to my hunting buddies, and I gather up my balls and approach the blow down... I close the 100 yard distance in what seemed like a week... I'm not going to lie.. My knees were knocking with every deliberate step... When I'm about 50 ft from the blow down, I see the bears head... Eye open, pupil blown... He's done. Once I get around the rest of the blow down, I finally get a full view of the bruin... Holy hell he's a giant! I still cannot believe how big he is... He's going on the scales tomorrow! It took four guys, and an ATV with a winch to get him out... A day I'm not going to forget.... Sent from my VS996 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

You guys are all correct.... Bail reform, Less is more, liberal judges.... It never ends! There is some major Fishing violations going on in tbe gorge right now. The DEC won't go down there to handle it. Can't say I blame them.the City of Rochester Courts won't keep felons in jail, what do you think will happen when a Snagging ticket goes in front of them? I went down there recently... Lots of Amish and other folks down there thinking it's 1989... So with all this in mind, no one should be surprised that Saiff got away with his violations yet again. Fickle fishing continues... Large clouds of bait on the inside waters has the predators very picky on what they want to chew on. One day they chew the transom off... Next day the bite is a grind. Sunday I had a young man and his folks out. This young man is an absolute animal on the stick. With the weird bite and a short trip scheduled, an inside water grind was on the schedule. Tons of marks and bait in 100-120... Suspended, streaking in the rigs... No takers... So down go a couple hammerhead and gambler rigs... Wire diver pulling an echip fly gets crushed and the young man puts a whoopin on a mid 20s shark. After a half dozen or so LTs off the bottom, the big rollers took a toll on our little buddy... Still had a couple hrs left, so we went into the Bay... Nice and Calm... The youngster had a request to catch a Northern... Well, I'm not set up for that, but we will give it a try... Threw out some gawdy colored stick baits in hopes MR toothy would want to chew... After a bit of trolling, one Rigger started acting funny... Released it and it was just weight ... I think it's a weed till the head shakes... Please please please be a Northern... 20ft from boat... Holy Crap it's a walleye!!!! The young man didn't get his Northern , but he scratched off a species on his bucket list... Days like Sunday make ya forget those grind days...
