  1. I appreciate the comments guys. I knew there would be a few posts from guys who muzzle load the traditional way VS in lines. Its kinda like Bow hunters who use traditional longbows VS guys who use compounds. The area I hunt is open to center fires. I figured I could buy a gun that could preform like a rifle, but could also allow me to hunt the late season. From what I have read, The savage is a pretty devastating weapon that would fit that bill. I'm with you Ray, Usually one shot one Kill. Ive tried to discipline myself to that and I've found that I tend to wait for the perfect shot to ensure a humane kill. I was once one of the "Sprayin and Prayin guys" but with getting older comes the patience......Thanks again for all the feed back.
  2. Guys....I'm going to get into shooting a muzzle loader next year and I'm going to start doing my homework. A friend of mine shoots a Savage ML2 and loves it. He says shooting the smokeless powder is awesome. Anyone shoot one of these guns? If so what kind of range can you get out of them? Thanks for the help.......
  3. SWEEEEET.......Oh yea......Love them divers. All I can say is CANS!
  4. I hope you like lots of company....... I dread hunting Rochester areas sometimes..... I can't wait till the sea ducks come down. then you can find me 5 miles out banging away....Weather permitting of course
  5. WOW.....Kinda makes me want to come out of tournament retirement
  6. There you go rick......New rig for ya
  7. Those things are like bees out there .....I love hunting offshore
  8. Sponge I have been using my walleye boards for a 350 copper and a full core +3oz dive bomb....I just move the weight on the board towards the back of the board. Ive never had any trouble with the walleye boards triping...the 600 copper would probably not work though
  9. I've been running the new X-4 all season. It totally blows away the old fishhawk. Worth the money....
  10. Second , third, fourth that...Joe is a Legend on the lake.....Great guy too
  11. Longline....Thanks for the update on the laker stocking. I'm glad to see that they are putting bigger numbers into the lake. heck maybe between the lakers and the browns, the gobie population might slow down a little.
  12. Cheers I couldn't agree more. Gotta Bite.....Lakers are notorious for being poor fighters. Ive caught Lakers in the upper teens and even twenty Lbs before and they fight great....Nice runs and totally bull dogging the bottom. When you catch a laker that is suspended , they tend to fight a little better. My theory is when you drag em up from 100ft or more, their bladders expand, thus causing the fish to fatigue and display a poor fight. I know guys who fish for them all winter at the Bar. They use medium action spinning gear. I guess those fish really put of a fight on that light tackle. I'll have to try it this year. The one thing some people don't know is the DEC does not stock these fish. The stocking is done by the Federal government because Lake Trout are considered a "native" fish to the Great lakes. I'm not 100 percent sure, but I think that the Feds stocking program, isn't as vigorous as the DEC is with other Trout species. 95 percent of the lakers landed on my boat are released.
  13. Brain....Gotta love those lakers.... They are definitely the "Rodney Dangerfield" of the lake. Great pic
  14. Stan...The fleas I'm taking about are the "Spiney Sea fleas". When they are in Larvae form they cluster up in the water near the thermocline. What happens is the flea larvae will stick to your line and then you can't real in the line past the eyelets. Ive seen 3 feet of that crap on my line before. the only way to combat that stuff is to use 30# line or the special "Flea Flicker" line made by Cortland. A lot of guys have rigs already set up with 30#. I have 6 rods all set to go with 30# Ande. I would like to thank what ever nice ocean liner captain for introduced that invasive species into our waters.
  15. Thanks Brian.....It was one of the toughest days yet. No real pronounced temp break and the fish were scattered.
  16. (Your Name) : Missdemeanor ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): Sat 13 June Time on Water: 0530-1030 Temp/Weather: Partly sunny Wind Speed/Direction: W/S/W Waves: Less than 1 ft Surface Temp: 56 to 53 Location: Rochester LAT/LONG: 40-41 west =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits:7 Total Boated: 6 Species Breakdown: 1 King, 1 Laker, 4 Steelhead Hot Lure: Homemade Orange/Gold spoon, Silver streak "Hot Lobster", NK Die Hard Trolling Speed: 2.4-2.6 Down Speed: 2.3 Boat Depth: Most fish caught in 100-140 Lure Depth: 3&5 color cloth, 42 rigger ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== All I can say is what a hectic day on the lake. The fishing was less than stellar and we had to work for our fish . Started off in 95 fow and marked absolutely zero. Worked our way west and finally too a nice chicken about 8 lbs. Now the pressure is off. We troll to what appeared a surface break and then the 3 color goes. We get the steelie to the back of the boat and then the 42 rigger goes. I hand the rigger rod off to the guy and notice the fish darts towards the surface and then right to the boat. NO GOOD! After a little over and under the wire dipsy, bull dogging in the back of the boat, we land it. Nice 3 year old king. The best part of the fight was it was on an ultra light trolling rod and 12# test. Ended the day with 6. Mostly steelhead with one of the Steels being around 15 lbs. We released the chicken and one rainbow domestic stream runner rainbow. One of the bare legal steels was gill hooked. The clients were real good guys. they really picked up on how play a fish. Some pics of the king and the bigger steel Just an FYI guys...I started picking up fleas on my wires and mono already. Just at the swivel, but its already starting.
  17. Awesome I love the dalmatian spin Dr and Atomik combos. That's my starting line up on my dipseys....Great fish man.
  18. We Also had a less than stellar day on Saturday. That cold water really screwed stuff up. We boated two kings in the 6-8 lb class. Marked alot of hooks and some bait. No where near the picture we are used to seeing. I'll confirm Slimy's report...we also had the Die Hard go.... We had a couple more shots on Free sliders......Pulled the plug early to avoid the cluster F.... in the river.
  19. Chris.....No problem on the tip. Heck That's what this site is all about. Unbelievable weekend. We can only hope that this Nor-easter doesn't screw things up too bad. Good luck this weekend.
  20. Well said nitro...Actually that is a perfect post. If you do happen to land one of these fish, be careful with them. Muskies are very susceptible to stress. All the muskies I have caught, I leave them in the net overboard, remove the hook, or use wire cutter to cut the hooks if they are deep. I then hold the fish up for a quick picture. I hold the fish by the tail in the water till she kicks free. A little anal about killing those fish because they are so rare....Good luck and make sure you post up a pic if you get one....
  21. Here is a pic of the spoon I did most of my kings on..... Gold NK 28 with sliver ladder back tape
  22. Rob...sweet pics man...I love those atlatics....Haven't caught one in many years.
  23. On the lamb...I prefer to Pm rather than continue this on a public forum.............Pm sent forth with
