I took the class with ScottB and he was exactly right...poor organization. I was on top of my license and "cut a couple of corners" to save time, but I didn't even get my License till the first week of July. Are you kidding me? As far as the class......Good Luck! Its pretty tough....I think I failed every practice test we had before the final. Oh yea did I mention math? You better get your algebra on! The Rules of the road is the most important. Study that because you can only miss 3 out of the 30 questions in this section. The chart plotting is tough too. They will tell you that you won't be ready for the exam till the night before. They are exactly right. Oh yea the two guys who teach the Rochester class are total Sailboaters. In our class, Legacy , me, and ScottB sat in the back of class saying " Screw the jibs and tacking...can I just run some downriggers and dipseys?"

Moto thats the same fish......If you hold a stout fish like I did in the first pic, it really shows off the belly. Up and down tends to make it look longer....The first pic is after the fish sat in a cooler for 4 hours

Can someone identify the fish all the way to the left?

Is that extra crispy or original recipe? -
This could be HUGE...Rochester...Huuuugggge!

Just bought some rigger and dipsey rods and I can say I was pleasantly suprised. The rigger rods have a lot of play in them and you can really get them doubled over on a downrigger, yet they have the backbone to handle big fish. The dipsey(Not the wire made ones with the roller guide) are awesome. Reminds me of the old St. Croix rods I used to use for wire. The 10ft m/h action is sweet. I heated and removed the tip and put on a twilly....all set......Ive always been a Diawa man...Heartlands and 47LC's , but these rods are impressing me more and more......

Thats would be great Steve.....A nice winter project for us. I'm sure some of the Local merchants in Charlotte/ the Bay and around Sandy would be interested as well. Longline...I share some of your frustrations. I have fished EVERY Eslo/Loc tournament. The thing you need to realize is WE are the ones who need to promote the sport. No-one else will. I think that the start of an "easy going just a bunch of fishermen and no pressure" contest would do the ports well. Not to mention the the pen rearing projects. We all know what the city and county have as far as "interests". That being said, lets leave the negative publicity about Rochester in our path and strive for our goal....Better fishing and a better class of fish being caught.

All right fellas....I"ll try to work on something for next year. Since Rochester does not have a pro am, I am Leaning more towards the $100 a boat tournament. Its nice to see people from the Rochester area interested. The things we need to think about is prize structure, percentage to go to Sandy Creek and Rochester pen rearing. Weigh station location. Could be interesting..... After this season Is over I'll get the ball rolling.

You know Brian....we should get one rep from each port to get together this winter to nail down the specifics...Ive never seen so may boats like I did yesterday. I fished with ScottB out of your port and saw just as many......I think we may be on to something...lets see how this irons out and maybe we could set it up for next year.......

I can't remember the last time I saw as many fishing derbies. I think it says something about the fishery and the class of fishermen we have on the lake. That being said ....What about a Rochester tournament? Years ago there was a Rochester Pro-Am and it kind of fizzled out due to lack of interest. The past few weeks Ive seen a ton of boats fishing the Rochester area. Could it be possible that we start a tournament here? Even if it would be the biggest three fish , $100 a boat deal that the other ports have. Lets say 90% cash return with the remaining money to go for the pen-rearing project. I think that Rochester is kind of the "Dark Horse" of ports on the Lake. It offers a diverse opportunity for all species. How about a little input from you Rochester/Irondequoit/ and Sandy guys. Its kind of late to do it this year. The Derbies seem to be a big success in other ports, my question is why not Rochester? Thanks for the input guys............

hey Rob......Where did you get that...Does it come with a red "Dipsey Diver"......lol -
Mark...are you kidding me.? Like I said before there are some great fishermen on this lake, and I'm not very optimistic that she will hold. That King you caught was impressive. Lots of bigger fish this year. Reminds me of the year we took the boat to Oswego and fished the fall L.O.C. We had 20 Kings in two days, all of them in the high 20's or low 30's. Biggest fish was 36. Too bad you needed one 40 to even make the leader board. Maybe those days are on the way back..Who knows.....Good luck the rest of the tournament.

Thanks Bob...theres a lot of derby left and my luck has been pretty bad up till recently..LOl... We'll see

Awesome....... Nice bunch of fish ......

Chinook...man you hit that one on the head. I seldom do internet shopping and I sure won't go to Gander or Dicks. Like Chinook I spend my fishing budget through the "Little guy " shops. Gregg and Michele at captains cove are fantastic. If they don't have something, they can usually get it for you in a few days. The loyalty is a big thing with them. Like any good run business....the owners take care of their good customers. Not to take away from Captain Scott....he runs a first class operation. If I really needed to online shop for fishing stuff, I would use his site...... Chinook...good job bringing up that point!

I second what Gambler said. That Ande line is nice. We have used it since the infestation of these darn spiny fleas.....Worth the money.

Yea Ive ordered off that site before. Fast service...I would do it again

I can't stand watching basketball. What a bunch of clowns. The sport itself is Ok, just how some of the players conduct them selfs on and off the court is telling don't you think? How about Michael Phelps and our boys last night? Thats what I'm talking about. Even the young ladies in the gymnastics did well...Silver medal will work! So far our athletes are doing us proud.....
-
I second that...Too bad Softball is out for the next Olympics......Gotta love Misty May also.....

Anybody keeping track of our athletes over in China? Ive been glued to the TV every night watching it. How about Michael Phelps and the rest of the relay team? Way to go Boys! Way to stick it to that cocky French team. The French team talked all kinds of trash...they "were going to smash the Americans." I wonder how they felt when our guys smoked them in that relay? These men and women are the real deal. Playing for our country and not for some big lucrative contract.
