  1. Sorry Rod and the rest of the members here, it was a spur of the moment post and I didn't realize it would be taken that way, as I really don't need to pay out any more money than its costing now and it seems Glen was first to address any more increases. BTW I'm over $10,000 a year to fish Lake Ontario and its tribs just as Glen and yourself. No more increases please.
  2. Hee hee hee here we go again. Great winter reading.
  3. Glen how come your one of the very few that ever makes total sense on this board?
  4. I think it should be one rod per person as it gets confusing enough with 2. Then I wouldn't have to buy as much tackle and equipment. LOL
  5. Avast is the best I've used to this date. Updates itself 5-6 times a day. Since installing it I have not had a single problem. Going on 7 months now.
  6. Thanks Mathew that was how I was understanding the whole picture and the reason for my choice of freq. It was just the "Dual beam" moniker that threw me for a loop. Crap shoot is right, it might work just great and then again worse that could happen is I won't be able to run (activate sonar) on a combination of fish finders while the transom FF is on.
  7. Clark mine show up pretty good with the 50KHz but if I get going to fast or currents pushing the weights or even to deep it will loose them. Sometimes even to deep (to much downrigger cable out) the blow back will take the weights out of the "seeing" cone. I also found it helpful to tilt the transducer towards the back of the boat so it helps to put the weights in the "seeing cone". Tilting the transducer back will have a negative affect while going fast (more than 10mph) or up on plane.
  8. A lot of eye opening good reading here. Maybe I should tell you what i want to do, I am pretty sure it should work but only time will tell. After purchasing a larger boat it came with a sitex Koden color FF with the thru hull 132KHz transducer (works very well) the rest of the fishfinders, fly bridge and transom, were junk so they were tossed. I added my LCX 104 C Lowrance to the helm but use it only for GPS (love the big size and color and accuracy). So Now I have a 7" HDS Lowrance 50/200 that I will put up on the fly bridge so I can have a FF up there if I want to operate the boat from up there. I also want to place another FF at the transom of the boat so I can keep track of whats going on from back there while working the rods and downriggers so I am looking at the 83/200 dual beam. If I am running all at once, the Koden at 132KHz, the Lowrance at 50KHz and the soon to be transom FF at 83KHz, they should all get along without interfering with each other right??? I am planning on mounting another transducer for the 104C at the helm but leaving the sonar in the off selection so it won't produce a signal as I will only use this for a backup for the helm if the Koden ever craps out. This is the reason I was looking closely at the 83/200 units so I could run the transom FF at the 83KHz setting. So when I saw that the 83KHz only comes in the dual beam it had me thinking that if the unit mixes the 2 freq 83/200 that it would interfere with the other (flybridge) FF. A lot to digest here but I would like to try to get it right the first time as the boat would need to be hauled out of the water to change out transducers. I would like to complete this once its out of storage and before it gets launched back into the water. BTW thanks to all who have participated in this thread. Bigger boat=bigger problems.
  9. Thanks Ray I do understand all of that but getting back to my origonal question" what is the difference between dual freq 50/200 and dual beam 83/200 other than the 50 vs 83. Can the cones (beams) be switched between the freq or even mixed as the name dual beam refers. I'm almost thinking this is actually a marketing ploy to make you think your getting something extra by calling it a dual beam.
  10. At this point I think cone and beam mean the same thing. So you either get a dual freq 50/200 or a dual beam 83/200. I think I'm still confused. I don't see how after reading all the transducer stuff that you can actually pick a degree cone to assign to a freq at will. It needs to be built into the transducer and its there fore fixed. The 2 diff freq give 2 diff cone angles but they are built in and can't be swapped or shared with each other, at least thats what I understand after doing all the reading.
  11. OK guys made for some great reading but already knew most of what was writen there. Although the Hummingbird info "Features * Precision, 20Ëš beam is optimized for excellent bottom detail, and reveals fish hidden in bottom clutter * Wider, 60Ëš beam provides greater coverage for fish and bait fish * View beams separately, side by side, or blended together for the most complete picture * Find fish and structure in an area equal to your depth" Looks as if HB's have an option to choose which beams you use or blended together. Just have to figure out if the FF I am interested in (actually 2) for the transom of my boat so when back there I can keep track of stuff has the same option to choose beams (dual beam) Looking at the Lowrance HDS 5 dual beam and the Garmin 400C dual beam. Now another ? can I choose a different beam for each freq ? Hah knew that would throw a wrench in the gears.
  12. Gil you are correct for the dual freq but I am trying to figure out the difference of the "Dual Beam"
  13. That was sort of what I was thinking but still not sure. So if I am running 2 fish finders and one is a dual freq set to 200 and the other is a dual beam 83/200 will it interfer with the dual freq 200? Then again if I ran the 50 on the dual freq and the dual beam I should be alright? I searched for hours on this subject and still cannot find out how the dual beam actually works and those I've spoken to about it don't seem to know either. I posted it here figuring with all the knowledge on this board that someone would be able to come up with the answer.
  14. Can anyone tell me what the difference is. I have some ideas but all the info on them doesn't really clarify how they work. Guess I am sure about the dual freq but dual beam? Is it that both freq run at the same time to record an echo?
  15. So far there's 14 anglers older than I am, that makes me feel better. Musky hope I can still be fishing at your age. Nice going.
  16. I am looking to sell a CTS (model #FF 1305-3) Affinity custom 3 piece, 13'6" (6-10 lb rating but more like 6-12 lb imo) for New Price $350. Rod is in excellent condition used only 2 x's , it is to much rod for me for the waters I fish, it would be great in the Niagara. Will accept credit card thru Pay Pal. If no interest will go on ebay. Around $400. in blank and materials before build. [email protected] USA http://www.lateroncharters.com Pics can be seen here: http://www.salmoncrazy.com/vforums/show ... hp?t=23069
  17. 9 ft pontoons with the double air bladder in each side. Adjustable seat and foot rest, tackle storage on each side along with anchor system. Top of the line single man pontoon boat. Used only 6 times. $700. for both. Trailer was new and customized for the fish cat, 12" wheels. call me 413-896-9785 Can be seen in Altmar, NY.
  18. Yep usually do Eastmans, Capt Johns at the cape, Helen H at the cape, Frances Fleet in RI and Hellcat in CT. Nothing better than fresh cod and haddok. Oh ya the Yankee Capts and did make a trip on the Bunny Clark.
  19. I've had good luck with both companies. Although raymarine would not send me a simple part for the stalk on my auto pilot, they insisted I remove the unit and send it to them even though it was out of warranty and I was paying for the part, guess they wanted to charge me for the labor. Turnaround was quick and repair was satisfactory. Lowrance gave me the run around the first 2 times I called, then I told them I'm going to throw my $2,400. unit in the lake. The rep for the north east called me and picked the unit up himself and made sure it went to the head tech, they took my outside case off and put it around a whole new unit, downloaded my mapping and waypoints into the new unit, tested it and delivered me 2 new dual freq transducers. The GPS is probably the best I've seen and the sonar now works great. They had it back to me (rep delivered in person) in 4 days. Maybe lately they've got to big and cut back on employees but they did me right.
  20. I always lied heading up as I'm looking at the chart. Less to think about as its telling me where I'm heading, less to interpret. If I'm heading in towards the breakwall I want to see it coming towards the boat, just seems much simpler that way.
  21. Glen maybe you need a black box.
  22. Bump
  23. Bump
  24. Thanks guys, did I mention I usually fish the day with 12 gals of gas with it, very economic if you keep it under 35mph. Trailers well, new tires every other year. Purchased bigger boat.
  25. Thanks Glen the box can always be removed.
