  1. Sorry, I don't. Too concerned about getting them back into the water quickly. Rusty. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Howdy all, Grandpafishon and I did a short trolling trip yesterday. The water at the north launch is the lowest I have seen. Only the northern most slip is usable for the most part. Bait was scattered, but plentiful, all above 60'. Most of the fish we marked were at 60 also. That's where the 54* water was also. The surface was 75*, with a fairly substantial algae bloom. Seemed to be lots of floating weeds on the eastern half also. Anyway we took two lakers and a huge rainbow. All came on a "John's Goby" stinger parked at 47'. I took several fish a few weeks ago on a similar spoon, a "Brown Trout" needlefish. We were using a Fishhawk, and I was amazed at the amount of current at 60'. Sometimes it was as much as 1 mph different than the surface. It's just a matter of finding out what they want ! Rusty Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I did an afternoon troll on Sept 7th from about 4:30-6:30. Lots of rec boaters out in the heat. Did I mention it was hot ? I set up near the weather ? buoy running spoons 30-50. I marked several good pods of bait, but no hits. I circled back through , but the bait had moved. I kept on going north, but no hits. I used a variety of stingers, and a couple of stick baits on riggers, 7 color lead, and a dipsy. Speed was 2.1-2.6 gps. I marked a fair quantity of fish, and saw more deep stuff (80-100) than I have I have in the past. Even the bait seemed to be a little deeper, 30-60. Fleas were a problem, and I didnt see anyone else trolling. Next time ! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  4. I'm jealous, and still having a hard time getting over how the fishing has changed on this lake. You really don't need to fish below 40', at least not right now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. The fleas are still there, however I m not sure how bad. I have flea flicker on the rigger rods, and wire on the dipsey. I was still getting some on the wire, but not enough to slow things down. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  6. I haven't been there in awhile, but something small in a perch pattern can do well. A fire tiger needlefish for example. The first three hours of the day are usually the best. Good luck , be patient, and eat what you catch. There's none better ! Rusty Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Will do ! Thanks for the help. [emoji226] Rusty Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Howdy all, It was too nice of a day not to go for a troll. With the awesome weather, and help from several folks on this forum (Alex etc.) I headed back to Owasco for some fishing. Foremost, I used some help from this forum to tweek the sensitivity on the Hbird fishfinder. What a difference, and a confidence builder! Thanks guys ! I put down some stinger spoons on the riggers, and after a while, noticed a rod bobbing more than usual. I popped it, and after a fight equal to reeling in a clump of weeds, I found myself with a 20 " walleye ! It came out of the middle of nowhere (plug your ears ), and when I released it, I could see it on the FF heading to the bottom in 150 fow ! I did a couple more small rainbows, a medium rainbow, and a 20" laker. They all came in the top 50' of water over deep stuff. Al the bait I marked was 20-50'. There ware a very few marks deeper than 60', but not enough to want me to run stuff there. I have run a mag dipsy on every trip, and have never had a hit. Is a glow in the dark version. I'm thinking of going to a black or clear regular dipsy to get it farther away from the boat. I really like the hits on a dipsy, so I'm going to keep trying. I dont have any pictures because I like to limit the handling of the fish. On a solo trip I like to bring the fish to the side of the boat, reach over with the pliers, and go for an in the water release. So, my Owasco trip has become much more productive thanks to you. I have to tell you though, Cayuga is looking pretty tempting ! Rusty
  9. Howdy all , Thanks for the info on adjusting the sensitivity on the Hbird. I found the correct tab, and it made a world of difference once I tweeted it. I could see where the fish would come into my set, and then streak away. Now all I have to do is figure out what they want ! Rusty Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Sounds like fun ! How do you cook the pigeons ? Rusty Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  11. Thanks Alex, I didn't get out. Probably not until Tuesday or Wed afternoon. Save some for me ! Rusty Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Thanks everyone, I guess I should confess that I posted that picture of a blank screen to show how slow my afternoon was. I honestly don't think their is an issue with the unit, but I definitely think I need to read up on how to adjust the unit. The unit did mark fish, several bait balls around 40', and the downrigger ball at slow speeds. The boat has two fishfinder. One at the helm, one on the stern. Those verticals lines didn't show up until I fired up the stern unit. The transducers for both are mounted about 2" from each other. I'm told one is 200 and one is 50. Interestingly enough, they both displayed the same marks and depth. So, it's definitely time to figure out the unit, and to figure out the fish ! Thanks again for all the help ! Hopefully fish pictures coming soon [emoji41] Rusty Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  13. Now that you mention it, all the Lowrance units I've had showed color on the surface, and there was an adjustment for those colors. This Hummingbird is new to me, so I very well could need to adjust it. Right now it's set to 'default', but what I believe to be the sensitivity, is set at 10 (max). I'm getting kind of determined now after seeing all of Alex's great results. Thanks for all the help. Rusty. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Beauty ! Betcha that was a solid fight. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. This is what the screen of the Hummingbird looked like for most of the 3 hr troll I did on Tues eve. I did the southern half of the lake , using every technique I had available to me. Riggers, Dipsy, leadcore, spoons, sticks, Spin Doctors. Ended up with one 15" rainbow on the core with an alewife stinger. I talked to a couple of guys from PA at the launch. They said they've been fishing Owasco for 10 years, and this year has been there lowest catch rate ever. Said they didn't turn a rod in 9 hrs of trolling. He also said he saw boats on the lake with big gill nets recently. I have to imagine it was DEC doing a census. If so, it would be interesting to see what the results were. Anyway, I'm gonna give Cayuga a try next week. I've been reading of good catches there. Rusty Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. I filled the livewell. Worked like a charm ! Thanks Now all I have to do is find the fish [emoji30] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  17. Alex, sent ya a pm Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. That's a great price ! Just paid $60 each for #12s at a tackle shop. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  19. Howdy all, I took the new Fishmaster for a test ride, launching out of Emerson Park around 4:00 pm. Being a Cannon guy all my life, the Scotty downriggers took some getting used to. Same with the Hummingbird fishfinder/GPS unit. They are a little different than a Lowrance. I ran riggers with spoons in and around the small bait pods I marked. They were mostly in the 40' range. Got a few marks around the bait. Had a few releases, one was on for awhile, but let go before I could get a look. Had another one on with a 7 color leadcore pulling a small black and silver stinger that also let go. I found that the boat seems to be a little stern heavy with the 150 hp and 9.9 back there. Seems as if the steering is pretty sensitive with the bow higher than it should be. I'll probably try some type of ballast in the front to see if I can get it a little more level. I hope to be installing an autopilot for the hydraulic steering. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I hope to do better next time, but overall the shakedown went well Rusty
  20. Cool vid ! Do the cowbells always have to be run on the bottom ? Thanks- Rusty Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. .....and see if they'll up the stocking on the whitetails also [emoji3] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Howdy all, The search is over thanks to the help of many on this forum. I brought home a beautifully tricked out Fishmaster 196 with a 4 stroke. Had to go almost to Montreal to get it ! Thanks Walandre and all the others for looking out for me. Stay tuned for some finger lakes trolling reports. Rusty Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. I catch LLs there occasionally. I try to release the silvers if I can. The lake trout from Skan are very mild tasting, so I'll keep a few of those if I feel like cleaning fish. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. Right now I'm boatless, but have arrangements to pick up a new(to me) one next week. I've tried kayak rising there, but discovered it's not for me. Anyone looking for a fully loaded fishing kayak, stay tuned ! (2016 Wilderness Ride 115) I usually troll mid lake, but will go where the fish take me. Skaneateles is beautiful, great fishing, sometimes difficult catching [emoji1] Rusty Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  25. Save some for me. New boat coming next week ! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
