Thanks for the info guys. The fish look like they might be from the same stocking . Last year maybe ? It would be great to get that lake back to a 3 trout fishery. Lakers, Rainbows and Browns. Head to Oneida if you want Walleyes. I have a 4 color lead core I'll try next time. I've got to have an orange spoon somewhere in one of the tackle boxes. Rusty

Howdy all, Trolled Owasco today from about 9:30- 1:30. Nothing on the north end. Moved outh and picked up a 10" rainbow from 54* water, wich varied from 40-55. Got two 25" lakers when I hit a bait pod. Couldn't revive 'em when I tried to release them, so they came home with me. I filleted ? them , and soaked them in icewater for an hour or so. I did the egg wash, seasoned bread crumb thing, and pan fried them in butter and EVOO. To my suprise, they were good ! I don't keep much of a fishing log, but it seems to me that the lakers are getting bigger, and fewer. Seems like I used to be able to catch a bunch of 18" ers, now I get one or two per outing, and they are generally in the 23+ range. Oh yeah- remember the flea flicker. The little bastards were even attaching them selves to the dipsey wire. Rusty

Howdy all, I found fish trolling between Johnson shoal and pt. salubrious in 20 fow on a gold rattlin rap. Between the weather, visitors and cooking, I didn't get out as much as I had hoped. The ones I did catch were fat tho. Apparently gobies make good smallmouth food. Rusty

I'm pretty sure its the lake insight model. I guess I can just change the settings until I find which one works better. Its either the 50/200 or 83/200 Thanks Rusty

NYfisher, I've rented the cabin at Kittos marina next week, and am hoping to get into the bass. You ever target those ? Any clues for a virgin to the area ? Thanks Rusty

Howdy all, Thanks to some advice from others on this board, I've decided to check the setings on my Lowrance HDS 5 to see if I can get it to perform better. When I go to he settings option to select the type of transducer, I see that I have it set to "Unknown" . I know the 'ducer is either a 50/200 or 83/200 Lowrance. Do any of y'all know how to tell which one it is ? The little silver sticker is no longer on the cable. Thanks in advance. Rusty

Thanks for the help boys, I usually run the display in split screen mode , 50 kHz on one side, 200 on the other. I adjust the sensitivity manually, running it as high as I can. I'm pretty sure it's on 99% The other settings I'm not certain of right now. How do I know what transducer I have. I'm certain its the 50/200, but are their different categories of that model ? Network- That's a new one on me as the unit is not conected to any other devices I'll check the temp setting anyway. Thanks Again Rusty

Howdy all, Quick report- Launched from Emerson Park around noon. The surface was 62. Hooked one 15" rainbow on a green/blue stinger on a 4 color core on the north end. Nothing until in front of the Boyscout Camp when I took a 19" laker on a monkey puke stinger down 70/? Same time hoked an unknown size laker on a trashcan dodger pulling a chartreuse squid out 180 with a mag dipsey with a ring. Lost the fish, dodger and squid at the back of the boat. Time to go to 20 lb on the FF set ups. Thats two lost rigs in two trips. I'm running a Lowance HDS 5 which I really dont care for. Doesn't seem to show much and it won't adjust to a shallow water reading when you move in from the deep. I moved the transducer one click to see if that makes any difference.

They both came early. Seems as if when the sun got up a little, they shut off . I wasnt able to locate any type of thermocline..Probably a little early in the year for that.

Howdy all, I launched out of Emerson Park around 6:30 am. Took a 20" rainbow and a 10" rainbow on bright spoons on the top. Later had a double on 20" lakers on the same spoons 30 & 40 feet down. Later in the morning, I did a 15" laker on a green silver spoon 40 feet down. The better screen was on the south end. A little on the slow side, but it beats working ! Rusty

When I stayed in Placencia I fished with Eloy Cuevas. Mostly permit, as there isn't much good bonefish habitat in southern belize. He can do some inshore trolling if you bring the tackle. http://www.monkeyriverretreat.com/hosts.html Good luck Rusty -
Just imagine how many more deer you would have seen if those selfish teenagers weren't out there spoiling everything with their youth hunt ! I've lost deer a couple of times to the evil coyotes. If I end up having to leave a deer overnight, I fully expect to recover nothing but bones in the morning. Those dogs are nothing more that North American hyenas. Rusty

Howdy all, I did a couple hours of trolling in the northern half on Sunday afternoon. Took a big male rainbow on a 200' copper pulling a b/s hammered sutton 44. I also landed a 17"? laker on a small pink/white stinger. The fish hit after I popped the line from the rigger, and was letting the lure come up to the surface. I also lost a mountain dew spin doctor with a green hammer fly. If you land a fish with that in its mouth, you're welcome ! I marked a fair number of bait pods. Nothing huge like I remember seeing in years past. Rusty

Howdy all, Grandpafishon and I trolled Owasco for a few hours on Saturday. Launched about 7:45 We started on the N end, west side. We marked quite a bit of bait in about 70' of water north of Fay's in front of the grey and tan places that are starting to grow grapes. We did a small laker on a b/s jointed rapala about 50' down. The other two fish we took were off the bottom on a black/purple spoon with a silver hammered back. We Ran to the south end and trolled around south/near the Boy scout camp with out a hit. There was one other boat trolling in that area. We pulled the lines about 11, and headed for land. We were running flea flicker, I dont know if it was 20 or 30. No issues with the fleas tho. Rusty

It didn't look a if all the pieces for the north side dock were there. A friend called DEC in Cortland, but didn't get any answers. That launch is painful enough when two docks are in. Can't imagine what its going to be like on weekends with just the one. Rusty

Howdy all, Grandpafishon and I fished some of the west shoreline on sat morning. We used green tube jigs in 3-20 feet of water. Got some nice smallmouths, lakers,a fat perch and a rock bass. About 9:30 the wind went dead calm and the sun was out in full force so the bite died. There was only one dock in still, and only three pieces of the other side were stacked at the bottom. You really need patients to launch at that site. Rusty

Normally I would ahve something for ya. However, the fishing's been so hot on Ontario, that I've been making the 1+ hour trip to Oswego. Funny thing is, both times I've been in Oswego, I've parked next to a fellow from Skaneateles. Rusty

Cpt. Wejebe was killed last friday when his single engine airplane crashed on takeoff in the Florida Keys. I thought his fishing show- "The Spanish Fly" was one of the best, right up there with Flip Pallot's "The Walker's Cay Chronicles" RIP Jose Rusty
