  1. Back up to Sodus this weekend. Got here a bit too late to fish tonight, but the forecast looks good for tomorrow. Instead we went down Rt14 to Lyons to catch a movie at our favorite theater, The Ohman Theater. It's a renovated classic theater. It has all of the old style architecture with modern sound system and digital projection, one of the best setup theaters i've been to. Adults are $6 and kids are $4. Definitely check it out on blowoff days or evenings. Movies are Fri, Sat, and Sun only and they only play one movie a weekend, so call ahead to make sure it's something you want to see. They play new releases only usually. Tonight's feature is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part 2... Shhh it's about to begin... [ Post made via Android ]
  2. If you're hitting skippies, try dropping your lures deeper. Also I iusually fish wherever I mark fish as they are not always in temp. If you constantly mark fish below temp, measure the temp 1 foot down on your probe and compare to a thermometer... Your probe might need to be adjusted. [ Post made via Android ]
  3. Arneys marina is on the west side of sodus bay. I understand the problem with boat name changes, im still bobs boy on here but the boat name is ruff rider. [ Post made via Android ]
  4. Hang your heads high you boys did a hell of a job! [ Post made via Android ]
  5. shrek very cool! By all means you or slow trollin should stop by Arneys and say hi. We'll be out Friday - Sun this weekend and are on Ch9 with the rest of the fisherman at our marina... listen in if you want as we usually say what depths/lures are working for us.
  6. slow rollin... a couple of things... first be careful with that x4 as from what I can tell they read different than the sub troll and depthraider... such as myself and others with depthraiders run a downspeed of 2.1, where as my friends with the x4 prefer to run 2.4-2.6 downspeed. Also temp is a bit different... for this take a small glass thermometer, the type they sell for fish tanks are perfect) and float it just below the water... use that temp to calibrate your x4 as well as your fish finder. I can't figure out how to calibrate my depthraider, but it's off by about 4 degrees (I just mostly fish 47-52 degree water). Also, careful with the reports you read on this site... people who fish the east end of the lake often have much colder water than we have on the west end. Example being late last week people at the Bar or Oak were only fishing 40-60 feet down, while at Sodus/Oswego we were fishing 100-120 feet down. Easiest way to avoid this is to A) fish the depths the LARGE marks are at on your fish finder B) fish the correct temp area according to your x4 C) find bait and put your lures 10-20' below it. Lastly, get to know your gear. Start trolling in 100 feet of water. Lower your rigger balls until they hit bottom, then start trolling. Once they blowback they won't be hitting bottom any longer and will need to be lowered. Keep lowering them until they continue to bounce every once in a while while trolling. Read your rigger counter, will probably be like 110' over 100fow to hit bottom. That will give you an idea to the amount of blowback you have. Now do the same with your dipseys. See if you can get them to hit bottom in 100fow. I personally can't. 90fow on a 1 setting with 300-375' of wire out usually does the trick. I need to figure out my 2.5 setting now that I'm running two dipseys per side. For dipseys especially you'll want to repeat this process in 80, 70, 60, and 50 fow... maybe even 40 and 30 for those days you're targeting steelies and browns. Hope that helps! Nick
  7. I don't know that you can go wrong with either one, but the Oak has been consistently producing fish all summer long... Sodus has been hit or miss. Nick
  8. BTW, meant to share something that happened on Sunday that really got me worked up... we finally found some fish later in the day and quickly put a 10lb king in the box while dropping two other fish. Next thing I know there's a pro boat on plane out deep driving all around looking for fish. Next thing I know he's coming over to check us out and at that time we double up. He sets down maybe 100 yards off our butt and does a circle and begins fishing the spot we are circling. We continue our circles just about running over eachother as we watch them quickly begin hooking into the fish we were on. The boat never left our spot and continued to circle with us. Our observer thought it might be the "great lakes minnow" boat, but I couldn't see a name on it anywhere. The captain should be ashamed of himself. As a professional on a very large lake, he should be able to find his own fish instead of trying to push an amateur team off of theirs.

  10. Any tips on things you did to get into the fish this weekend? [ Post made via Android ]

  12. Well it was a great week of fishing that really heated up on thurs and friday. Thusday morning we went out and struggled in the early hours. Then we slid out to 500-650 fow and hit the motherload. Huge marks one after another and had rods popping. Not wanting to ruin the spot we tried to get torn down after the first fish... We had five fish hit by the time we could pull the rods. Also, the DEC met us atthe dock and wanted to check out our fish. Three of the fish had tags in them. Friday morning the wife and I ran out to 500fow and setup a few miles west of our spot the day before. We could have had our limit but released a couple within the first hour... It was crazy good. Then the 500 copper started heading for canada, so being the gentleman I am I gave the rod to my wife lol. It almost spooled us, but she got it stopped and headed towards the boat. She got it about 100 ft from the boat and it got into the dipsey wire... We tried everything to get it untangled but couldnt, so hand over hand we brought it closer. I had to grab the dodger to untangle it, never thought it was very big, maybe.18lbs. The dipsey wire had actuallu opened the dodger swivel, slipped inside and the swivel reclosed! I was about to open the swivel when the wire in my hand started screaming (go figure). We got the wife's fish close to the boat so I could open the swivel and untangle them, then netted her fish. When it hit the deck I realized how bog it was. Poor wife who looked beat had to now reel in the dipsey fish (20lbs) while pulled our other rods. Wife was exhausted by the time we netted her other fish. We ran in and weighed in the 5th place loc fish at 29lb 4oz. (dropped to eigth by the end). Saturday we went out with high hopes and setup in 300fow pointed north. We had our chances and blew it. We went 0-4 on majors in the first hour. Not sure if we lost our confidence after that or what but we never found the big fish again, but did continue to drop a lot of fish. We managed 5 keepers with very little weight. Sunday we switched up captains and started in 250fow pointed North. We setup on big marks and should have stayed on them, but we trolled to our spots from previous days... Those fish were gone. We never had a major bite all day. We still dropped a lot of fish, but managed 6 with a nice 12.5 steelywhich would have been 18 if it wasnt as skinny as could be. Had a lot of fun this weekend and the fish are really starting to bite. [ Post made via Android ]
  13. Totally understand, my wife uses the washdown pump after every fish until there isnt a single scale left! [ Post made via Android ]
  14. Abe's Waterfront (Forgot to get a picture, will try to get one tomorrow) Abe's has a great view and live bands on weekends on the deck upstairs. This review is hard as the upstairs and downstairs are almost like two different places, but ill concentrate on the downstairs this review... The food is ok, can be on the pricey side for dinners, but the service is just abysimal. Our order was wrong twice and while our waitress wasnt bad there were multiple tables outside that waited forever for their food. The owner Jamie is a great guy and I heard him giving one of the waitresses a hard time about the people who had been waiting, so hopefully service will get better. 15. A couple of restaraunts we hit up this week... Trucks Pizza... right next to the tackle shop, not too bad, stick to the pizza though and if you like clam strips be warned that they are the big thick ones... Food 3* Price 4* Service 5* Airport Pizzeria Dont judge the book by its cover... This place is one of those bars out of a movie, locals biker bar. We felt a bit outta place in our white Ruff Rider tshirts amongst all the bikers, but everyone was very nice. The pizza was very good and the wings were awesome. Pass on the loaded fries. Food 4* Price 4* Service 4* [ Post made via Android ]
  16. Yeah we are hoping to make a comeback tomorrow! We found fish today and just couldnt keep them on, no idea why. One fish broke a swivel right in half, not much you can do when that happens! Congrats to the teams that did well today, it wasnt an easy bite. [ Post made via Android ]
  17. Fell on our butts today, dropped four big fish first thing and never found them again after. [ Post made via Android ]
  18. 80 fow inside the bay lol... Details on monday. [ Post made via Android ]
  19. Sorry for your bad luck, but I can understand why the committee wont give your money back. Running a tournament cant be easy and to deal with giving money back for breakdowns, bad weather, or any other reason would be difficult. Hopefully you guys get your boat fixed up... Any thought to renting a boat and fishing from it? I think arneys has a couple that you could probably rig up with a few dipseys, lb rig, and planer board for copper.. The lake should be calm this weekend and if you dont take it too seriously it might be a fun challenge. [ Post made via Android ]
  20. Good luck and be safe to everyone fishing the proam this weekend, I wont be posting live reports daily the next three days, need to concentrate on not losing so many fish! Lets see some big boxes and do my home port proud! [ Post made via Android ]
  21. Not to get off topic, but for lake status use the Rochester bouoy information, just dont forget to double the wave height as they measure from mean lake level. [ Post made via Android ]
  22. Deep water was barren, shallow water had fish but they werent biting... Hope things are better tomorrow. [ Post made via Android ]
  23. Water finally calmed down, starting to forget what a salmon looks like! [ Post made via Android ]
