Perch, I agree with the swim statement as well But then again, I go on planes and don't know how to fly haha Nick

I'd say 42lbs, but I'm a fisherman Nick

Sorry ladies, but I agree with this law. For a lot of us on this board, I don't think it is necessary... but out of Sodus, I see a lot of row boats out there getting smacked by other people's wakes. A friend towed in three guys (adults) last week after their small motor on their RENTAL boat broke down... all three said they didn't know how to swim. I think this law is good for all the irresponsible boaters out there and a bit of a pain for the responsible ones. And on a personal note.... you're a frickin moron if you don't wear a seat belt or a helmet on a bike for that matter. Nick

I always assumed it was a pussed infection. Pretty frickin gross and usually gets me close to hurling. Needless to say, I toss the entire fish. Nick

A lot of wishful thinking going on in here I'm going to say 34lbs 8oz with last place being 28lbs. Nick

Proposed rule change on Pro Am ending times.....Opinions ???
TOP SECRET replied to Fishtails's topic in Open Lake Discussion
I voted for the change, but after seeing 3dfx's response I'd like to change my vote I HATE how people run to other areas of the lake when fishing the pro am. It's called the OSWEGO pro am, not the Niagara Bar pro am (a bit of an exageration). Although, I do think the mechanical issues suck, had that happen on your boat Rod and almost mine this year. I also think it would be another rule for the observers to know about / enforce and it will become a problem as people pull lines at 1:29 and another boat's watch reads 1:31. Nick -
I'm ok with how it is. By the time we got weighed in, watched everyone else weigh in, ate, retied rigs, etc it was time to go back to sleep for the next day Nick

I counted 4 dead fish floating this past weekend on Friday and Saturday. I didn't get close enough to see that they were definitely salmon, but they were a good 10+ lbs. I probably contributed to the floaters this weekend as I went to release a king and it flopped out of my hands and smacked its head again the swim platform. Stras... they can't be worse for you than the diet coke and twinkies I have on my desk right now Nick

We keep a lot of what we catch and eat pretty much none of it. We give all of it to our friends and family. Then again, we aren't so good at the catching fish thing, so we don't take too much yearly Also, Rod mentioned not keeping young fish, but I thought I remembered an article that stated it was actually better for the fishery to keep the young fish (less stress on food supply) and release the larger fish (so they can reproduce). Any merit to that? Personally, if you're on my boat and want to keep fish, as long as they're legal... go ahead. If you want to release every single fish... go ahead. To each their own. Oh and I tend to see quite a few salmon floating each year, especially in the middle of the summer. I'm surprised by how many people say they never see any. Nick

Need Sodus Advice
TOP SECRET replied to edpre's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
um not sure exactly what you're looking for, but head straight out of the shoot, if the previous day had a strong south wind fish 60 feet up in the water colum, if not, fish from 60 to 100 foot down. Troll from 100 foot of water to 250 foot of water. There are no specific "good spots" to fish out of Sodus. Find the fish, put something in front of them. We'll be on Ch 9 tonight through Sunday. Here's just a few pictures of the storm from this past weekend. When we first setup the sky was totally clear, not a single cloud. Then a small cloud formed. I had never seen anything like this, within an hour a "halo" formed like a portal to heaven, but this was a bit more hellish... the storm looked like a monster, but it ended up breaking apart when it got to sodus and didn't hit us quite as hard as I expected... We usually set out high lines at 55 degrees and low lines at 42 degrees. Then we adjust based upon where we mark fish and where fish hit. Nick -

Up until last weekend, I had never been able to get that stupid NBK to go. I guess the fish finally changed their tastes! I didn't talk to anyone else that went out Sunday, so not sure how others did. Seems like a lot of people slept in If nothing else, the lake looked like it was as flat as glass! Nick -
Sorry Musky but you win... seeing Ray is just like watching some strange wild animal on national geographic... sometimes I'm even like "wow this is what it must feel like to find the missing link!" Nick

I wonder if the pro am commitee would be up for just allowing people to fish ANYWHERE, and not worry about the coordinates. I don't quite understand them... I mean if you said "this is the wayne pro am, so you can fish from Rochester to Fair Haven"... sure that would make sense... but right now what's the point of them? Just to avoid Canada? Very strange. Nick

Sodus 7/24 - 7/25
TOP SECRET posted a topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Another good weekend out of Sodus. Took a while to realize what was going on with temps on Friday. Friday morning: The cold water was in shallow, in 100fow we had 55 degrees down 40ft and 42 degrees down 100ft. In 200fow 45 degrees was down around 100ft. We had a lot of bait in shallow 50fow - 80fow, but couldn't get anything to go, so we moved out. The fish we were marking were down around 60ft and the first one hit the 60ft rigger's free slider. Didn't pop the rigger, just started screaming... straight to the surface, jumped about 3' out of the water and spit the hook... real nice king. Another hit on the same free slider, just couldn't catch up to him before he spit the hook. The last fish hit the 200' dipsey on a 2 setting over 200fow and was a 19lb king. Saturday morning: Temps were even higher. We started off real slow while others around us were catching fish... not sure what was going on. We finally started getting into the fish after 9am in 250-280fow. We marked fish down 60-80' but all our hits were up really high. Dipseys only took a couple out 120-150 with one being an 8# brown, the other a 15# king. After that our other 4 hits came on a free sliding NBK off the 90' rigger. We only managed to keep one of those fish on to the boat though, 15#. We tried moving our riggers up high and our dipseys high and our leadcore high, but the only thing they wanted was that free sliding nbk. Once things slowed down, I pulled the 90' rigger to check for fleas (which were bad again this weekend) and found that something had hit the nbk and "sucked" the sticker right off of it. We put something down that looked like it, but apparently the fish could tell the difference and weren't interested! Sunday morning we got lazy and slept in A few pics of our friends with the fish they caught... Nick
