woody... ok i didn't realize it was lost after a fight. Sounds like a bit off to me. I've had a lot of deep hooked kings lately... kings with sharp sharp teeth Yeah Mike (reel me) stops over on ch9 from time to time. I wish I had scan on my radio Nick -
wow 600k is a bit much for that dump. Well maybe if you knocked it down and built three houses instead I heard a rumor that it was going to auction last year? It must have been one of those auctions that it only gets sold if someone bids over what it's selling for. It's a shame to see it just fall apart. It's a great location, just a shame that the moron that owned it never took care of it. If he spent 10% of the money he spent in changing the tackle shop into a cafe on the docks, he'd probably have some of the nicest docks in sodus. Nick

I believe Carey's is still renting slips... however I wouldn't spend $ on that pos marina. A lot of us are at Arneys and it's a nice marina. If you need power/water though you may want to try katlynn. Hey, when is someone on this board going to buy Carey's Cove and fix it up!!! Come on Lee! Nick

Woody... feel free to give us a call anytime on the weekend, we're usually on ch9, sometimes ch68. Most times we're on ch9 with a bunch of other people from sodus all trying to figure the fish out. Someone usually goes deep, and someone stays shallow until we find fish. Are you using rubber bands on your dipseys? What we've found in the past is that if we set our dipseys up with the drag set to "normal" the kings are just too strong and break off. We set the drag on the dipsey so that it ticks out "tick tick tick tick", then we add a rubberband half hitched around the wire and wrapped around the handle to stop it from ticking. When a fish hits, it destroys the rubber band. Wait for the fish to make its first long run, then tighten the drag slightly. It's really helped us a lot. Ray... good info on fishing with the current... however two things to add... if fishing in the morning, don't run the 7 miles... start fishing then when done fishing run the 7 miles back... that way you don't waste prime fishing time. If evening fishing, I agree with you, that way you're not running 7 miles in the dark. Also, fishing with the current makes everyone much happier and keeps your dipseys from popping in rough water. Poor Johnny, he had his hat on crooked for all of his pictures  Rich it was tough fishing this past weekend, but don't worry... with the amount of fish we marked the past two weeks sooner or later it will blast wide open! Nick -

Cut-Meat Question- DEC Regulations??
TOP SECRET replied to fosterm22's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Sodus Point tackle sells the new cut bait. The strips fall apart in no time. The whole bait comes in large packs, so be prepared to seperate it into 2 or 3 packs for daily use. To me, it's just not worth using anymore. Nick -

Were you fishing out of Sodus? I talked to Rich D and he said the waves weren't bad by him either. Maybe only Sodus was rough this weekend? :?: -
Tough weekend of fishing for everyone out of Sodus. It was extremely rough water all weekend. Friday night we got out in 3s and 4s and tried to keep speed. Trolled with the waves and managed one king over 180fow 65 down on a metalic firetiger. Saturday morning: no breeze, finally thought it would be calm.... was greeted by 5s and 6s at the breakwall. Setup in 180fow and hit a king 10 mins later 250' of wire, green protroll green/black fly. Landed a nice king, pulled up all the lines and headed in. Saturday evening: Extremely rough again, toughed it out for 2hrs and managed our first skunk of the season. Sunday morning: 2 for 3. First fish came in 280fow 250' wire 2 setting dalmation spinny/green fly. Next fish came over 580fow 300' wire 2 setting with green protroll/green fly. Unbelievable amount of fish and bait out there this weekend, but they would just not eat. I passed more fish this weekend than I can remember in a long time, but they were just not eating. Here's the big fish of the weekend at 22lbs: Nick

Here's a pic of the 27lb king from Friday night. You can see it was pouring and pitch black by the time we got back. -

As tempted as that makes it to say it was him... I just can't lie I saw it on the atomik site However, i've got matches ... Nick -
haha I'm guessing it ended up being a 34 mile run at 15 mph And if you count the distance traveled up and down the waves, more like a 450 mile run!

Headed out Friday evening after the storms rolled through, about 6:30pm. Setup in 90fow straight out. I had just picked up one of those dalmation spin doctors I've been hearing about. I have had NO LUCK with spin doctors in the past... I mean I don't know that I've ever been able to catch a fish on one... so I figured I'd try the bigger version and put it on the drive side dipsey that fires very seldom (must be the way I drive ) Well we're setup for maybe 10mins and the spinny diver gets creamed... I mean just destroyed. Out 200' with dipsey on #2 and a green siggs rig fly. My father was on board for his first trip of the year and is having a great fight. He landed the fish and eclipsed our biggest fish of theyear so far by 8lbs with a beautiful 27lb king. Circled back around and almost same spot had another screamer on the other dipsey 250' #2 with a green protroll and green/clear fly. It was another big fish and I got antsy and tightened the drag too much and snap Circled again and the dalmation spinny took off again 200' out over 105 fow and landed a 21lb king. It was getting dark so we called it a night. Saturday morning. Headed out to the same spot and consistantly hit fish until the wind picked up at 10am. We hit 6 kings from 7am-10am. My dad was on board, so everytime I dipsey would fire, I'd slow the boat down to almost neutral. It kinda rules out doubles, but makes it much easier to real in a dipsey fish. We did actually have one rip on a dipsey going slow like that (laker maybe?). Once the wind picked up, we couldn't get anything to fire and didn't mark anything. Saturday evening. Went back to the same spot and started hitting fish. Ended up losing a real screamer but boated 2 nice kings. Same lures as the morning. Nice couple of hours with mom dad and sister on board. Sunday morning. Same spot. Same deal. Hit fish, boated 3 kings in the first two hours, but then the wind really started whipping and we couldn't get anything to go. All in all, a great weekend of fishing. That dalmation spin doctor took over half our fish. We had only one fish on a rigger all weekend... not sure what was going on there... tried all different depths, different spoons, flashers, dodgers, cut bait... just couldn't get them to fire. Nick

Holy cow Yankee... I hope the waves had settled down by then or else you had one heck of a rough ride back! Stix, good going this weekend. I tried calling you to give you some info on the fish we found, but no luck reaching you. Dalmation spin doctor was hot for us this weekend 200' to 250' of wire. I could only get one bit on a rigger all weekend though. Out of the 16 fish we caught, only 1 came on a rigger.... real weird. Nick -

Nice job guys! How far back are you running your flies from your boards and how far are your flashers off the balls? Nick -
My view on cold fronts is that it becomes very difficult to catch anything... The simple reason being, normally that brings north/west winds, which cause the lake to get very rough... hence I don't get out Then after the lake stops churning and settles down, I tend to find the fish offshore more, especially if the lake has flipped. Looks like it's going to be a bumpy ride out there this weekend, good luck guys and be safe! Nick

Blow boat racing before and during the Sodus Pro/Am - UGH!!!
TOP SECRET replied to Nemesis's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Good luck guys, when this regatta happens I prefer to head off shore. The blow boats have a nasty tendency to drive up to your boat to watch you catch a fish. I've had numerous times where I've been fighting a fish and watched a blowboat turn 90 degrees, drive all the way over to me and say "did you catch something?" then almost hit me. Bottle rockets work well.... almost no evidence left in the end Nick -
Sodus 6/29 Evening Report
TOP SECRET replied to anewton's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Friday night we were having trouble with the kicker, so I couldn't get down below 3mph... We did managed to hit 3 small kings and one real nice laker. The kings came on the riggers on free sliding green alewives. The laker came on a dipsey out 300' #2 setting with a green protroll(small size) and green fly. Saturday after I got the kicker jerry rigged, we did a lot better. We couldn't hit any big boys, but managed 4 10lbers and a lot of misses. The trick was getting your speed right, it was a weekend where I really wish I had a probe for speed at the ball. Saturday's stuff came all over the place on all different things... no set pattern, but green lures were hotter than non green. Took fish down 50', 70' and 100'. Dipseys out 300, and 200 both got hit. But again there was a nasty current and I had trouble keeping my speed right. Then the wind switched directions and things shut down for me. Nick -

We were the ones cutting you off in the 20' trophy. I'm pretty sure that was you at least. Sorry about that. We were having major kicker motor problems and were without power off and on. Nick -
Sodus 6/29 Evening Report
TOP SECRET replied to anewton's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
anewton.... what channel do you monitor? I was out friday and saturday, wish I would have known you were out! It gets kinda lonely out of sodus in the evenings... not sure why no one fished in the evening... we have some of our best luck then! There was a NASTY current friday night, that may be part of why you were spooled, your top speed may have been right but your bottom speed may have been zippin making it that much harder to stop the fish. Nick -
I drive my fish over to Mexico... FishWish taxidermist... best around. Nick
