  1. Tournament boats: BFF Dinner at Abes Hi everyone! Just a quick note to let everyone know that we will be holding the 3rd annual 2014 Sodus Bay Healing Waters Salmon Slam on Saturday August 2nd! Last year's event was bigger than ever and I hope this year will be even better. Many of our sponsors are geared up and ready to go! I've also heard from Project Healing Waters and the Veterans and Service men and women have been talking about the tournament all winter and are ready to get back out on the water! For those who haven't been involved or are not familiar with the event, this single day tournament is utilized as a way to help wounded and disabled veterans and active duty military by bringing them out on the water and sharing our passion for fishing with them. Here are a couple of quick videos from the past events: The event is coordinated with Project Healing Waters which is a non-profit organization dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active military service personnel and veterans through fishing education and outings. The tournament rules will be the same as last year. I'll post them shortly. There is no fee to enter the tournament other than bringing one or more of our veterans/servicemen out on your team. There will be three divisions, salmon, steelhead, and brown trout. The single largest veteran/serviceman caught fish wins each divsion and there will be separate prizes for veterans and captains. The tournament is held out of Arneys Marina in Sodus Point, NY. You do not need to be docked there, but you will need to pick up your veterans/servicemen there. If you'd like to dock there for the day/weekend call in advance, as slips run out quickly! There will be a free barbecue after the tournament as well! I'd like to start with opening up registration to 15 boats and may extend it if there is as much interest as there was last year. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me via email, IM, or phone. Those looking to donate items for the event or volunteer your time to make this event more amazing than last year, please contact me! 4. Thanks guys, it has been a LONG winter! Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  5. Hey everyone! We are a bit behind this year. I started a new job and don't have much vacation time to take. We did take Ruff out for her first trip of the year on the Hudson for stripers two weeks ago... on the way to the boat launch one of the trailer fenders imploded and then halfway across the river the engine overheated. So the water pump should be replaced this week and fender maybe next weekend. We are hoping to get Ruff up to our Sodus slip the weekend of Father's day and get back to life as usual Also for those that have asked, the Sodus Bay Healing Waters Salmon Slam tournament is still on for Saturday August 2nd. I'll post something about it in the general forum soon. Hope everyone stays safe and save a few for us! Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. Glad you liked the jelly! I was afraid it might be too hot for human consumption!
  7. Thank you everyone for the well wishes. It was a great summer and we are sorry it is over. It's going to be a long 7 months! Always a sad sight to see Ruff sitting dry. You just know she's thinking "c'mon dad, I know we can still catch fish out there and I'll be ok until frost!" Well until next year may your birds fall close, your bucks and women have big racks, and your snow shovels feel light!
  8. Came up this weekend, but the forecast sucks. Cold front all weekend and rough seas. My guess is we'll pull the boat tomorrow and call it a season. Good luck to everyone who sticks it out and fishes the river! See you all next year! Nick and Theresa
  9. I'm going to need to try the 2x thing, but man that hole looks small to get the copper through twice!
  10. I've got the blood run on my 300 copper and don't like it. It seems more pliable and a bit softer and it seems to fray MUCH MUCH easier. I'm pretty sure the reason the Opti-Tackle copper broke was that I switched to a heavier rubber band (ran out of my normal ones and all the store had was one of those dumb variety packs), plus I tightened the drag a bit more than normal due to the rough seas. I spoke with Roy (Mudflat) at the docks and he stated that he runs the copper through the swivel twice to avoid the same problem I had, which was the copper breaking at the Spro inline swivel. It's going to be tight feeding it through, but I'll have to give it a try. That being said, I had a lot less problems with the albright knot last year (once I figured out how to tie it correctly). The swivels have seemed to cause nothing but trouble this year. Next year I'm going to try to the shrink tubing over them to see if that helps, if not, I'm going back to the albright knots! Nick
  11. Thanks Sk8! Still hoping to get one last day of fishing in next weekend, I'd hate to end the season on a skunk!
  12. This morning we had breakfast at the Coffee Cup in Alton, just across the road from where Rt14 meets Ridge Rd on your way out of Sodus Point. It was decent, but we still prefer Nick's Diner. We had peach and rasberry pancakes along with eggs, bacon, and homefries. The food was good, the service was ok. Not a lot of seating for parties larger than 4.
  13. A couple of food reviews... Yesterday we tried the Mexican place, Rincon Mexicano, in the Town of Sodus. It was very good! Highly recommend the guacaomole and any of the burritos! Highly recommend it if you're craving some Mexican food.
  14. Well, definitely not getting out today, so headed home.
  15. Crazy North wind this morning. Anyone even thinking of fishing today needs to go back to bed! I woke up thinking another boat hit us, but it was these huge wind gusts slamming us into the dock!
  16. Took a shot on the 125 rigger, no one home. Now I'm wet and cold! Going to head in shortly.
  17. Miserable out here. Pouring. Marking tons of fish, but no bites.
  18. I wish you better luck than we are having!
  19. Well apparently the shot we took on the 550 copper earlier was a good one! Headed in.
  20. Small brown on the nuclear green spoon cheated 10ft up.
  21. Dropped it, 42nd dodger green fly. Hard to stand up in this washing machine out here.
