Cayuga Lake B&B with pics of results
Fishtails replied to rshubuck's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
Congrats again on the 2nd place, it was good talking with you It was the first time for my boat on Cayuga...2nd time for me. Justin and me had a good time and it was great meeting some of you guys & gals. More fish would have been good, but we managed a dozen fish or so with 1 brown, 2 salmon and the rest being lakers in the 4-7 lb range. From the sound of it, I was fishing a bit deep. most of the time I was fishing 90 - 113. The 113 rigger did take 4 fish Sunday on a white/green spinny and a Big Weenie rollin rock fly. Sat. our best rig was a Big Weenie Mt. Dew grease trap followed by a green peanut 315 on the dipsey. The boat is home now and the 2010 season is a wrap. Looking forward to doing it again next year -
We'll be there Hope I inspired you to do the same Andy Good point Rob, I will keep that in mind. I plan on running a 4 rigger spread and covering a lot of water till I find something I like. No doubt I'll pick up and run many times, but once I find fish (or should I say if ) I'll get the junk lines in the water. The only other time I fished Cayuga was last fall at the B&B and my best laker set up was a Big Weenie Grease trap with a peanut off the copper. I have 6 grease traps on the boat, so you can be sure I'll have one in the water at all times And the Whoopie Goldberg will get wet too See ya guys on the water....good luck!!!

Resposibility definitly gets in the way sometimes Andy, but I try not to let that happen to often I may be begging for some forgiveness next week, cause I think I'm gonna try to swing up there for the weekend anyway and deal with the consequences when I get back. I have all winter to play catch up. So you guys may see Lucky Enuff prowling around Cayuga this weekend after all. No Pre fish...no knowledge of the lake...no information on where to fish....If I make it up there, I should be a shoe-in to win this thing

I was looking forward to a couple days on Cayuga, but now I have to work so it looks like we won't be making it ....I'm bummed Good luck to all!!

I am split, assuming I can get a spot. I told the wife tonight at the dinner table and she reluctantly agreed to come along. I hope to get there by noon Friday and the Family will roll in Friday night. Are you still in the same spot? I'll see you this weekend

That's the plan. My son had a good time there last year. So I'll throw my money in the pot, but we're no threat cause I don't know the lake very well. I think I've fished it twice in my life, but we've enjoyed it when we were there. Looking forward to meeting some of you guys there

Mexico Bay 9/11 & 12
Fishtails replied to spoonfed-1's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Same story here...first zero of the year, Ran all over the place...even out to 530, all for not. Had two rigger bites fishing the finger of the trench......that was it Even so...good times were had!! -
The more you razz me, the more I know ya love me Gary We should be thanking YOU! We have definitely had some kick a$$ days this year running BW flies. It's the only fly brand I have on my boat. I'm sure we'll be premiering all sorts of new BW products again at the LOTSA show next February.

It's been fun but its time to move on......
Fishtails replied to HOLY DIVER's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Life is about change Doug. You put one passion on hold for another. Good for you You can always find someone to fish with that has a boat. Best of luck with your new land. -
Hey Tom, the way you were campaigning for a blow off the final weekend, I thought you were in first I think more people would get involved and fish more seriously if the money were spread out a little more, but it's a derby of time spent on the water and luck (mostly luck), as all "big fish" derbies are. At the end of the day, I'd say if it ain't broken, don't fix it. I agree with Billy...I buy a ticket and look at it as I were playing the lottery.

Enjoyed the play by play Pete

Richard Bullen & Family Needs Our Prayers.
Fishtails replied to muskybob's topic in Open Lake Discussion
I'm very sorry to hear of this sad news Richard. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and Bonnie's family. -
Mike...that's some fantastic work. You're really good at that Makes me a little sad the season is almost over though

Nice Tom, that's a little different than I tie. I'm gonna give your method a whirl today. I tie mine like Ernie teaches. The only change I made is that after I tie my treble snell, I slide a 1/2" to 3/4" piece of surgical tubing down the line and over the shank & snell. Then I slide my beads on and my single hook and tie the second snell. It works great to keep the kings from chewing through the line and preventing breakoffs.

Mexico Bay 8/28 - 9/3
Fishtails replied to spoonfed-1's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Nice job Glen....great report Yeah, that fishing in the pack was no fun! I don't fish the fall LOC most years cause I hate all the ignorance that goes on. This year was just too hard to pass up I saw ya out there a few times but not sure what channel you were on? We did the same thing as you though by passing on the numbers and going for the size....good times ! We searched for fish outside of the pack, but couldn't locate any, so we fished with the rest of the nuts! -
Now you can see why I was horrified to watch it sink to the bottom of the river....I knew I was gonna get skewered. Hey, it ain't my fault I catch fish and have slimey hands. I gotta start using my hands free phone. Do I see another fly coming Gary I don't think they will insure me Jeff, my verizon store knows me by my first name. Yeah Rick....I missed a few text messages I'll be up next week on the Oh Baby boat with Matt, so we'll stay in touch out there.
-
Yup...AGAIN! This time while I was at the gas dock filling up. It now rests in peace at the bottom of the little salmon river. I didn't like it anyway I'm in for next weekend Matt. You'll have to email me the details at: [email protected] It could be a blood bath if the weather calms down. I'll have a new phone sometime this week, not sure Jen will let me take it fishing though. I may need to use yours....does it float

Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Lucky Enuff ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 12 Total Boated: 9 Species Breakdown: All Kings Hot Lure: Big Weenie flys: Glow Wonderbread, Blue Weenie Custom, Lake O Glow, Hillbilly Stomper, Saltys Balls, Hot Paddles: Wonderbread spinny, NBK spinny, Gator Spinny, white/blue halo spinny, white/ green dot pro troll Trolling Speed: 2.8 - 3.2 sog Down Speed: 2.1 - 2.4 Boat Depth: 80-115 Lure Depth: 65-115 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Gave full report...then winds knocked out power and all was lost So here is the short version....maybe Mike will give more details. I had a small window in my schedule, so I gave LOU member Shadster a call and we ran up to fish a couple days out of Mexico Bay. Fishing was OK...not fast and furious by any means. The bigger fish are showing up in better numbers, so with no pressure for awhile thanks to mother nature, depending on what this blow does it could get really good in another week, if things settle down at all. We had an all wire bite, except for the very last fish, which came on a rigger parked at 121 over 114 fow...bouncing the bottom. I had the spinney stretched 40 ft behind the ball so it would stay off the bottom. I wish I had done that a day and a half sooner...maybe we could have developed a rigger bite. We were limited to a 4 rod spread, mostly running a 3 dipsey & 1 rigger set, but at times we went 4 dipseys & no riggers. We did run the more traditional 2 wires & 2 rigger program for a short time, but our rigger bite pretty much sucked so I stuck with what was working for us. We focused on the 80- 90 fow range in front of the Big Salmon, but did go deeper to 115. Our two port side wires were normally parked anywhere from 180 to 225 on the inside wire on a 1 setting and 270 to 340 on the outside wire on a #3 setting. Our Starboard wire was a 2 setting and hung out anywhere from 180 to 240. All of our wires took fish. Our rigger was parked anywhere from 60 to the bottom. It was an all attractor/fly bite for us. Nothing on meat or spoons, but with a limited rod spread we didn't experiment much. The wonderbread spinny and Big Wennie wonderbread glow fly took the most fish. Shadster's biggest ended up being his personal best at 28 lbs. It fell for a Big Weenie Lake O glow followed behing a Pro Troll white/green dot & green stripe paddle. My biggest was also my personal best at 32.04, falling a little short of making the board. That male chinook put up an epic battle, busting the level wind mechanism on the reel, busting the rod in half and getting caught up in the net before finally hitting the deck The play by play got lost whit the electric outage, but it was a bizaar series of events that will earn that fish a much deserved place on my wall at home. It came on the outside port side wire parked at 300 on a #3 setting over 83 fow. He slammed a BW blue weenie custom fly trailed behind a white/blue halo spinny. Mikes big guy slammed the inside port wire rod parked at 215 over 85 fow on a #1 setting. That fish came on a BW lake O glow fly behind the white/green dot & green stripe paddle. A fun trip for sure. Thanks for joining me Mike. We choose to chase the big guys laying on the bottom, but for those who kept some lines higher there were coho's and smaller matures in better numbers. The fishing was not easy in the Mexico Bay bath water, you really had to work for your bites but the fish are there. Boat traffic shut them down fast, but things should get better with the end of the LOC. Water temp in the Bay was 69 degrees on the bottom.....the Bay could use a nice east blow to get some colder water back. Here's a few pictures of the 32.04 brute. I lost my on the water pics of our fish when I dropped my phone overboard I'm sure Shadster has some good ones.

There's other fishing to be done and we live close. BTW...that was the fish Justin stole from Mark , who graciously gave up all the "fish on" to others aboard. -

It was great having you Mark. Thanks for joining us....I'd fish with ya anytime Too bad it was during the upwelling, but we didn't do bad given the conditions We made some lasting memories for John and Rob and I appriciate your help. Glad the lake set up and the inside fishing improved as the week progressed. The only Pic I have with John & Rob was after dark on the cell...kinda lousy but they were real happy guys! Keep in touch -
I know Jay. Those fish in the islands don't get me to excited anymore but the wife loves it up there , it's a very enchanting area and I always enjoy my time there. I'm sure you will have fun.
