  1. Hey Jay, I was there 4 days last weekend. The info above is very good....follow it and you'll do fine. Watch the Canadian line, there is not much American water on that side of the Island. I spent 8 years up there, but had not been to the Islands in the last few years. It was great getting back there!!
  2. Funny stuff....thanks for sharing ClarkE
  3. Observing for a Pro Am or Scotty is a fantastic opportunity to often overlooked. If I could make it up there, I'd be fishing the Scotty, but... If I wasn't fishing I wouldn't think twice about observing. Unfortunitly. Wifey is out of town and I'm playing Mr. Mom that weekend Really gonna miss fishing this event.
  4. Nice Job Ron with the 33# I don't know Gary....you ain't right brother I think the crack of Dawn is a pretty good one to !
  5. Big Weenie fly...been a hot fly in Mexico Bay for a few guys, especially on bright days
  6. Wtg Brian & Marlene, congrat on a great win and enjoy that Harley...WOW!! Congrats on the 2nd place finish Shark...GREAT job!!!
  7. What a Beauty Glen Maybe next time though, you can have a hot chick hold the fish for you...we'd all appreciate it Just messing with ya....congrats on a hell of a year!!!!
  8. Happy Birthday Bud !!!!!!!!!!
  9. Hey Nick....you sure about that bud? Remember all those skippies you've been catching this year? Guess what, they're gonna be legal fish next year and if this year's numbers are any indication of what we should expect next year, we may be real happy with that 9 fish limit! Matures are gonna be really scarce next year, and that's gonna make for some very interesting, very close tournaments in 2011. We are always going to expierence peaks and valleys. For example, our team caught well over our 9 fish limit every pro am day this season except for the first day in Niagara. I'm guessing most teams did the same...problem for our team was we were catching short fish. Some teams like Spoonfed, Five More Minutes, Fishnutz (just to name a few) consistently did a better job finding legal size fish. Maybe the "open communication" rule plays into that? I'm sure at times it does, but those teams earned their wins this season. In Orleans our team caught 15-18 fish on 25+ bites, but only boxed 6. In Sodus on Saturday, we boxed 7 by 6:45 before pulling lines cause I wanted to fish beyond 7am. In Oswego, our team didn't fair as well as the other events, but not cause we didn't catch fish. We could have had a limit and a half each day....they were mostly short though. The 9 fish limit allows the better team on that given weekend to win. My point is that next year will be very different than this year, just as this year was very different than last. I think you will see many 9 fish limits next year in the Am division....many! I personally don't travel 275-375 miles to catch 6 fish in an hour and have to stop fishing by 7 or 8 am cause we are boxed out. If you fished multiple Pro Ams, as opposed to only fishing your home port event, I'm pretty sure you would view things differently. I for one, applaud the committee for going back to 9 fish in the Am division. If they would ever switch back to a 6 fish limit, I won't think twice about switching over to the pro division.
  10. Yeah...you warned me Nick, but I went out anyway. Why didn't I listen and just stay put BT fishing? It wasn't like you were banging any fish out there. See, open communication does me no good....I don't listen anyway
  11. The damp cloth works, we use it all the time on the sub troll to improve the signal. As far as a lasting repair, I have only found one that works permanently. You can mix up some fiberglass resin and coat the bare cable with an foam brush. Once dry, spool the cable back on and you'll be good as new
  12. This has turned into a great read with some terrific insight Just when I thought I was getting burned out on tournament fishing, Vince has all pumped up and ready to go at it again. I like the way you're thinking Tom Hey Howie, Actually, We only spoke openly with two teams this year, and it was more of a "so how ya doing" type conversation with people we consider friends. We have never ran to new fishing grounds in a Pro Am based on any information we received while out on the water. We definitly don't depend, or even take advantage of the open communication rule. It actually hurts our team, as we are still new to many of these ports and lack the local knowledge. This season, we continuously seemed to find fish on Friday, only to loose them with a blow on Saturday. I suppose a vast network of friends on the water would have helped us locate our lost fish, but we feel nothing is learned through that method and we try to find them on our own. It hurt us at times this year, but we'll be better and wiser for it in the long run. I'd be thrilled to see closed communication!
  13. Very nice fish Rob. They stock them in a stream down the street from me....poor buggers have a hard time hiding. Everyone enjoys targeting them, so after the first couple days they become a rare find in streams.
  14. I have always sided with Tom and all advocates of the closed communication rule. Unfortunitly, I think most of us know it ain't happening. I hate open communication...absolutley hate it!! It just seems like open communication is here to stay...like it or not. Can closed communication be enforced...no. But, where any more than one person is involved in a deceitful activity, it is a conspiracy. Any conspiracy is only as strong as its weakest link. Any more than two people involved and the strength of the conspiracy weakens exponentially as more people are added. In other words, if a team "talked", word would get out sooner or later. Most of us would comply just because it's a rule....end of subject. No "enforcement" is really needed and not every rule has to be policed. Just the fact that it is a rule is in most cases enough.
  15. Honestly....we put an x-4 on this year and it's been nothing but a headace so far I put the sub troll back on and I will be leaving it on as a back up to the x-4. I may love the x-4 someday.....but not so far. Our display took a crap last trip and won't give us any reading but surface temp. I know it's the display thanks to Pete Alex, who loaned us his for testing. Fish Hawk is sending a display out tomorrow though, and just asked that I return the old one once I recieve it....great customer service
  16. Landing Zone, I sent you a pm. Top prizes were not as high as you may expect, but they paid down 25 places and spread the money out more. I think that's smart and good for the health of any tournamnt. Giving more teams the opportunity to place in the money and have their name called out should be the main goal of these one day tournaments.
  17. Yeah, Beth said at the captians meeting she would not hesitate to dq you if you had ice or water in the cooler. She also said 6 fish...no more or dq! No lake trout or atlantics either or dq! She wasn't messing around but she was also real clear. If I hadn't gone to the meeting, I probably would have been dq'd for sure with ice cause I was keeping the fish for friends and wanted to keep em cold. She runs it her way, but she still scares me Great tournament though Nice report Rick
  18. Rich D said he will be posting them sometime soon, and Tom Allen will probably be posting also fo the Triple Crown standings. It was a great event again with somewhere around 80 teams I'm thinking? The weigh in and awards ran very smooth and quickly this year...way faster than last year!! Great Job and thank you Mike, Beth, Rich, and all others involved. Thanks again to Lester, Brian, Rich and others for getting involved in the youth prizes. I wish we could have seen the leaderboard, but it was all on a laptop and not visable. I wanted to peak but Beth scares me.... We didn't know we took 2nd until they called our name at the awards. Thanks to all the sponsors Once again...A Big Weenie fly took our big Salmon, 20lbs and change taken on a BW Goat Pecker fly. Out Biggest Steelie also came in hooked to a Big Weenie protologist fly. BW flies have really produced big fish for us this season ...Thanks Gary Also...Thanks for the ride Jeff . We had a fun team, consisting of my 11 year old son Justin, my buddy Ray, myself and Jeff from Team Coldwater Affair. All I know about the results are 1st and 2nd 1) Screamer / A-Tom-Mik 2) Lucky Enuff / Coldwater Affair Not sure on the rest of the field, but they paid down 25 places Here is my boy Justin with his trophy and second place box. Congrats to Screamer on another solid finish!
  19. AWESOME !!!!! Way to get your boy involved!!!!
  20. Yup, may have caught more if the Captian would have allowed them more time in the water Took a fish in the Orleans pro am also......nice job Dave Maybe next year you guys will have this on another weekend so guys like myself and Jason can make it a little more interesting? Fishing the LSRC for sharks this Saturday. Best of luck to all.
  21. To funny Chad !!!
  22. I suspect someday you will figure it out Tom. No need for me to further explain.
  23. I heard about this....they were seen shaking fish off at the back of the boat? Something to that manner & the observer was being questioned? It will be interesting to see how this unfolds.
