Yankee's Niagara Pro Am
Fishtails replied to Yankee Troller's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Nice report! It was a tough day bud....wasn't it? We had a similar day. We hit them good on the bar Friday, and I "think" they were there first thing Saturday cause my screen was decent, but I guess they slid east fast. You were fishing inside us on Saturday morning. I couldn't find a coho or king all morning, just an under size Atlantic & Steelhead. We picked up & ran twice , and saved face by finally boxing a steelie and a brown out over 325 fow to avoid our first tournament zero. I was sweating for a little bit there We did land a 13 plus pound brown on Thursday. Wish I got a pic, but we got it right back in the water after putting it on the scale. You'll bounce back this weekend. I hope we finally get a break in the weather!! See ya in Orleans -
Glad the Whoopie fly worked out for you Justin....wtg Big Weenie (Gary) still busts my chops for having him make that fly for me, but I think he'll give in to the pressure one of these days (or years) and make it again. As it stands, I'm keeping the ones I got You have one of the few out there, so don't loose it Glad you cashed in on that Big Weenie fly. As soon as I heard you hit that fish I dropped it and took a fish on it also. Fishing was sloooow for us, so we didn't spend much time fishing cause the kids were bored.

It's not who wins the most, but who looses the least...... Just doing my part to get this shipwreck to page #5 I have read all the responses, and there are some good ones Thanks Dave Turner for taking the time to give us some insight. I may not agree with this one, but I appriciate your effort none the less. I think Billy V summed it up very well. Kudos to you Bill. For the reasoning he stated alone, these new "rules" should be suspended and revisited AFTER the 2010 season. Deals have been struck and promises made. It's unfair to make such changes on short notice. The way this was handled was all wrong...on all sides. Please....lets put pride and bruised egos on the back burner and do what's right. This has been a loose - loose deal and we'll be feeling the effects of these decisions on both sides for a long time. Lets at least get it right and suspend these changes until further research can be done and proper notice given. In all fairness, these things are going to happen sometimes when non fishermen run a fishing tournament. Mistakes happen, it's how we handle them that define us as both individuals and as a tournament. Lets do the right thing Pro Am committee, and put these two rules in question on "hold". Maybe then we can all have a big group hug at the captians meeting

Justin took his shoe project to school yesterday & everyone loved it. I thought he may get busted for it being a girls shoe (kinda like I am ), but nope. He said his teacher was very impressed. It counts as a major part of his science grade. I hope he gets it back though....I might need those parts back

I would like to think their intentions were so noble Vince. Tom, I know this had to be a difficult decision for you. While we are a Big Weenie Team, and most times competing against you in many different ways, I consider us all brothers out on the lake. No matter what side of the fence we are on, we all have a common interest & passion and ultimately want what is best for the Pro Ams and participants. I have always stood behind the committee in these threads, but that seems to be getting hard to do as of late. Maybe (probably) I am wrong, but it seems that fewer and fewer of the rules are made to benifit the teams, and more are now being made to benifit the committee of volunteers. We have been told several times over the past couple of years that they need to make it easy for the "volunteers" ( like shortening the name cause it takes to long to write on the board) at the expense of the teams. I respect the work they do and go out of my way to thank them every chance I get. It just seems to me the fishermen could always be volunteers, but the volunteers couldn't be fishermen. Without the fishermen....no Pro Am's. Still hoping this gets resolved, but pride and ego will likely stand in the way of progress and prosperity once again STILL.....LOVE THE PRO AM"S & CAN'T WAIT TO FISH!! See you all there!

I am sure the committee is aware of this thread, but to be sure I sent the man I'm sure is behind this new rule an email with the link. Sure would be nice If he/ they would give another point of view. Not allowing the sponsor name to be attached to a team name is one thing. It sure wouldn't be the first tournament to implement that rule and IMHO, I don't see it worthy of "pulling" sponsorship over it. That being said, making each team use only the name of the boat they are fishing off of.....now that is ridiculous !!!!! So my boat breaks and I decide to use my wife's boat (yes, she has her own boat), and her boat is called "girls night out"......I gotta be Team Girls Night Out ?? WTF is up with that rule? I'm almost speachless as to this rule.
-
Nice job Jason!! I missed Rollies call yesterday. I'll give him a shout today. Hope to see you this weekend
-
I was hoping for some better reasoning than that Tom. It takes to long to write it on the board......seriously???? Your team name has to be the name of your boat now.....seriously?????
-
Hopefully this can be worked out and you will stay on as a sponsor Tom. If not, it's the teams that loose out, not the Pro Am staff. We still have our coolers to decal up with sponsors, and our shirts, hats, etc. Maybe the'll take that away next and we'll have a dress code and plain white coolers Whatever, I just wanna fish!!

I know there are a lot of politics within these events that I don't fully understand, but that being said I have to agree with you Tom. Can't there be a compromise of some sort? I understand other sponsors getting a little upset because they to kick in money and want equal recognition. So why can't each sponsor be allowed for example, one or two team(s) in each division? Why the extreme.....can't we ever just meet in the middle??? It's not as if the other sponsors can't back teams of there own.....it's all part of the game, is it not???

Now all your ladies are gonna want one of these new fashion statements Me and my 11 yr old son made a "shoe" for a school project using household items. It doesn't have to be functional, just needs to look like a shoe. It's all fishing materials, right down to the rod butt heel

I'm fishing the trout derby with the family for the first time. The website has very little information, so maybe you guys can help. Can I buy derby tickets when I get to Sampson? Also, I'm guessing everyone on the boat needs a ticket...correct? Thanks for the help & good luck to all. Look forward to meeting some of you
-
Looking forward to this, who all will be there? I'll be at Sampson with the family. It will be splash down for our boat after receiving a new port engine and outdrive, plus I have only fished Seneca once, so it should be interesting if nothing else We will be out Friday breaking in the new motor & drive. Give us a shout on 68....we go by Lucky Enuff

Too many to list dude ! The guys mentioned some good combo's. Green paddle w/ salty's balls, proctologist or rubber hypocrite is in the water a lot! White/ green dot spinny w/ wrecked em or green dog is killer in the morning. I could go on and on, Big Weenie flies are definitly an awesome product

Thanks a TON guys....I feel better knowing that

Hey guys, I have a question some of you with the x4 can help with. Does it matter what side I mount the ducer relative to the side I have the probe? Can the ducer be towards the port if the probe is on the starboard side? It doesn't really say that it matters one way or the other in the instructions (at least not that I see). My problem is I have a strike vision camera on the starboard rear rigger, so when I use that I'd want the FH probe on the port. BUT...my through hull ff ducer is on the port side and it says I should keep them apart. You think it matters what side I mount it on? If so I guess I could move the strike vision to the port side. Things are complicated because I have twin I/O's and trim tabs on an 8 ft beam so there isn't alot of room left to mount anything. THANKS !!

Like LS said, you can start as early in the morning as you want in the open division. Your fishing time is really up to you. Leave the dock at 4:30 and you'll have a solid 6+ hours of fishing, not to mention you get a huge jump on the am's and pro's, who have to start later. Besides, it's a lot of fun !!!!! Think about it.....

I have the Berkley, I don't really like the job it does though. I've gone back to a sharpening stone and my hooks are much sharper!
