Fishtails replied to Fishtails's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
They worked great last week on the Lakers Stan....let me know how it works for you. I ran a Crushed Ice glow grease trap w/ a green glow peanut behind it as a trailer. Next month I'll be field testing them on Stripers for Big Weenie. I expect them to be deadly on the stripers....I'll keep ya posted! -
Cheers on making another journey around the sun Hank! Thanks for all your help

Heres to making another trip around the sun Mark -
Had a good time this past weekend camping & fishing out of Myers park. I have never fished the finger lakes before, so my 10 yr old son Justin and I were able to fish with Rollie (Final Flight) on Friday for a half day tutorial of the lake. We put a couple bows and a few salmon in the boat along with a laker. We had a great time fishing on the Blue Bubble with Rollie....thanks for having us bud! Sat morning we set out with my good buddy Jeff Jackson (Jeff J) and his son Matt on Jeff's boat. A cold front blew in the night before and the fishing was pretty tough. We couldn't move a rod so we threw out a Big Weenie Grease Trap on the 450 copper. It wasn't in the water 2 minutes and it takes a shot and Justin lands a 7+ lb laker. We ended the day boating 7 or 8 fish but both kids had fair fish to weigh for the youth division in the Barney tournament so they were happy. We only had one hit on a flasher/fly off a dipsey and a few off spoons, but hands down our most consistent rod was the Big Weenie Grease Trap on the copper. Unfortunately, I only had one Grease Trap with us. Sun morning we got an earlier start. We headed to the west side above the falls with a new game plan. We ditched the flys and went to peanuts and spin & glows behind the flashers and ran them off the dipseys. It wasn't long and we were doubled up...one on a green pro troll with a green spin & glow and the other on the 450 copper pulling that same Big Weenie Grease Trap . We had a busy morning, doubling up at least 3 times, but the kids were dropping a lot of the dipsey fish behind the boat and I lost a nice one at the net for Justin . The dipsey rods took the majority of our fish with the spin & glows out producing the peanuts by a couple fish. Jeff did take a nice bow while he was setting rods, but most of our fish were lakers with a couple small salmon mixed in. The Big Weenie grease trap took 4 fish again on the 450 copper and the riggers were very quiet for us. It was mostly a junk rod bite for us beginners. We ended the day 11 for 16 but had a great time. No $$ fish for us but the boys got first & second youth fish in the Barney so they were very happy! All in all it was a cool trip

Thanks guys....that really helps. I made up my mind to use it next week and as I'm pulling the cover off it Justin tells me he wants to take the bigger boat I'll see how he feels today and I'll take the boat he wants...I just want him to have fun.

I need some advise from those who know. I'm bringing my 10 yr old to fish Cayuga next weekend. It will be our first trip to the finger lakes...ever! My lake Ontario boat is sitting here in Pa, and I'm not so hot on hauling it up there 225 miles for two days of fishing, seeing it weighs 7500 lbs. So, I'm toying with putting the riggers on my small boat and bringing that instead. It's a 16 ft Starcraft with a 60hp merc four stroke. I have zero hours on it this season, so I'd like to find a place in my life to actually use this boat besides 2 weeks in the winter. But is it enough boat to effectively fish Cayuga...or will I regret leaving the big boat home? Here is what I have to work with....thanks for the suggestions!

LMAO What did ya like most about that bud....I'm suprised nothing got in the prop So...In the end....who won? Did ya land it and have L.L. salmon for dinner?
-
Good lord....that's a freak of nature!!!

Regardless...that's a beauty Glen! Sorry it came late, but rather catch it late than not catch it at all Great fish!! Doesn't look like I'm gonna get back to the big O this season, so congrats on a great season and we'll see ya at the bar next spring Also, I gotta agree with you on the sripers. I mean, they're fun and all, but IMHO hey don't hold a candle to a mature Chinook. I fish for them once the kings are done. We'll be doing it again this fall Ray.....give me a shout

Boys and Girls club of Tioga County Fishing derby
Fishtails replied to Splitshot115's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
That's a bummer they called it. Lots of people wait till the final day or two to sign up. It was gonna be my first trip to Cayuga, but I rescheduled for next week so I'll do the Barney instead. The Blue Bubble is full next week, so it looks like I'm hauling Lucky Enuff up and bringing a kid crew for some fun Should be fun, seeing I've never fished the fingers before. -
Yes Splitshot....fishing it with Rollie. I missed almost the entire LOC, so I'm looking forward to getting on the water.

Great fish you two....way to go

Just found the problem....it's not the tank. The fill hose has a decent size hole at the bend. It was not noticable until I removed it.

Dave...aka 3dfx.....aka nameless dolt, What's up with you dude? It's impossible to have a constructive Pro Am related debate without you popping in and bad mouthing it. Get over it!!

I've been thinking about this, and John makes a good point about TV. I mean, why not? Break through that barrier and the sponsors will knock down the door. The great lakes Salmon fishery may be more localized than bass fishing....but it's huge, none the less. And I'd think it would make for a very entertaining show...look at the local legends we have fishing these events. I know I'm proud just to be under the same tent! OK, so maybe my first grade teacher was right and I spend to much time daydreaming. But just maybe John is on to something. I'm sure it's already been done. If not here on lake O , than on one of the other Great lakes. So where would we start and who? I'm to stupid, but we got ourselves some marketing guru's here who would also benifit from the hype (you guys know who you are ) Insight Sports seems like a perfect start, since they have the World Fshing Network AND they are local!! http://www.insightsports.com/about.php

Shade.....I will address your question via pm. I'm sure Tom would appriciate his post to stay on topic.

Dave Turner would be able to handle it for all events. He'll pass info along to others as needed. Pass along any suggestions you have to him, or post here and they will monitor. I wasn't sure if I should post his contact info on here or not...but since his number is now up his email is: [email protected]

Next month the Pro Am committee will be sending out packets to potential sponsors for the 2010 Lake Ontario Pro Am series. They are asking for ideas on new sponsors so we can grow our events and increase payouts. I personally just spoke with Gary of Big Weenie and he has shown interest on coming aboard as a new sponsor. Any other ideas ????? Just think if we all came up with just one new sponsor. Think outside the box a little and post your ideas here for the committee to see, or pm them to me and I'll pass them along.

Tom, That rocks and I give it my full support...no communication I'm new to the Pro Am's over the past three years, but we do fish all four events. Being a newer team, we are not one of the "big dawgs" by any stretch. We donate our money and every couple events we get lucky Enuff to get a some back. We have FUN doing it...and we are already getting prepared for next year. Just my opinion....but I hear a lot of guys bad mouth the committee for things that happened 10 years ago. My experience has been the opposite. I have have had many conversations with several of the committee members as a voice for the Am division. Even though I'm newer to the scene, they accept fresh ideas. When I proposed the open division last year...they embraced it with an open mind, even when members on this site dismissed it (probably thinking it would not happen). We are now discussing changing the way we end our fishing day, by putting it back to the way it used to be. I know they are asking around gaining as many opinions on that subject as possible. They want to hear from us.....they want our Pro Ams to grow and they want the majority to be happy!! The past is the past....Way to go committee Closed communication .......
