Scotty King Of The Lake Wilson Pictures
Fishtails replied to REELJERKS's topic in Open Lake Discussion
GREAT pictures Mark!! I have vid of the shotgun start if I can figure out how to do that. Btw..we are the team that went on Bob's boat. Our boat was not down (even thought that would be a great story) We just all agreed his boat was way nicer than mine for fishing the snotty weather and he was nice enough to offer to fish with us!! Well....It's way nicer than mine period...about 50 times over. We really enjoyed fishing with Salmobound and look forward to doing it again! We hit some debris in my boat on Friday and spun a prop hub and took a chunk off one blade. We limped in on Friday afternoon but The Boat Doctor came to the rescue and loaned me the two props off his boat so mine would have been ready had we needed it. Was that nice or what ?? -
Guess we'll never know what we hit Jan, but I put those Props on from the Boat Doctor today and went fishing out in front of Wilson I don't like that pitch though, so I'm going with what I had.

Bar report 5/4

Like Jan mentioned, watching those two kings tail dance across the surface was truly spectacular. Especially the one that was 22.09. That fish did weigh 22.10 on their scale. The guy punched a hole in it and then took the official weight. It weighed a hair under 22.10 and I told the guy he just clipped off that weight. He just chuckled and said "sorry guys.....I can't give it to you". Not that it matters, but it would have moved us up one spot cause there was already a fish weighed in at 22.09. We didn't make a fuss though.....no point to it really. Had that fish been over 23 It may have gotten me a little fired up. -
I have to give props to some great people. Thank you Janz and Rusty Rat for several great days of fishing aboard More-On. Justin thanks you too! It was definitely a great time and the #8 loc Salmon was icing on the cake. Thank you Bob Buck of Salmonbound charters for joining Team Lucky Enuff for the Scotty and being a gracious captain. Bob was nice enough to take us on his boat Salmonbound for both days of the Scotty and with the 6-8 fters on Sunday I was real happy to be on a 3 meter trojan. He let us pretty much run the back of the boat and he put us around fish. We had a couple rough breaks and dropped fish but we still ended up 25th out of 67 teams. I think we would have taken a beating in those seas on my 24fter. Thanks again Bob....you're a fine Capitan. Also.....thanks for joining us Melissa. I hope you had fun Thanks to my team mate Jeff J and his son Matt. I'm lucky to have such a great team mate and friend! Looking forward to tearing it up in the Pro Am's with you guys

Irish Thunder took first place in the Scotty, and weighed in the big fish on Sunday @26.1 lbs !!! Second place went to Cold Steel Third place went to Reel Hooked up Fourth place went to Billy V I'm to tired to remember the rest....sorry guys. Congrats to all the teams who took money. Day two was snotty...with 6-8 ft. waves most of the day. It was a great event and lot's of fun.

Bar report 5/4

Well, that is good to hear Clarke! Still only one lil guy for us. I'm guessing we will find the little ones during the Scotty and Pro Am I did manage to get on the board today on Janz boat More On. We didn't have a stellar day, but managed to finish up with one that weighted 22.09 that currently holds 6th, but will drop like a rock I'm sure. Thankfully I landed it, cause I had dropped 4 in a row and was starting to take some heat The fish definitely were not where they were the day before!! Time to take my boat out now and get ready for the King Of The Lake. I'll post more details after the events. Good luck to everyone out there! -

I don't know what we are doing right, but we haven't caught a laker yet? I was sure I had one one the copper today...turned out to be a 6lb king. Really nice day today (5/5) until the wind picked up around 11:30 out of the east and the fish shut down. I'm not at liberty to really give details cause I wasn't on my boat, but we lucked onto big fish today and boated 12....11 of them were over 15lbs with the two largest coming in at 19.15 and 19.12. They both weighed 21-22 on the boat scale, so we were surprised when they just missed the board. Jan and Scott landed those two fish. One noticeable observation I have made is there are very few dinks so far. Only one in two days of fishing. That light stocking last year is looking like it may have a major effect over the next couple years. Curious if others are noticing the same thing? Back at it tomorrow -
Short report... Got delayed getting out here do to a family emergency. Finally got on the water today and fished with Janz and Rusty Rat on Janz boat More-on. Great guys...had a really nice day on the water! Boated 8 today...6 kings and 2 Steelhead. Nothing over 15lbs today. My 10 year old Justin joined us today and brought in 4 of the fish. We fished the bar and did most of the fish an flaser/fly's. Doing the same thing tomorrow and switching over to my boat Wed. or Thursday. With any luck we'll get into them better tomorrow. I'll give a better report In the next day or two.

We will be there. To bad yer missing this one Rick....should be a fun one! Hope to see all you guys there. Staying at site #070 at Four Mile Creek.

That's good to hear Carl. I just installed a Raymarine SG1, which is for hydraulic steering. What a pain in the a$$ installing that rudder reference was on my boat. I thought over all the install on the hydraulic unit was pretty involved and I definitely wouldn't look forward to doing it again! Here's to hoping it's worth it Good luck with yours

Absolutely Rick. Our problem on Lake O is we don't have a tow service in most (if any) ports. If we do we should start a thread with their contact info. So...no tow service....nobody willing to help....what is one to do? Most locals have friends in the region, but we who drive 5-7 hours don't necessarily have that luxury. I have spent many thousands of dollars to ensure I don't need a tow again, but the truth is at some point I might, and we all will at some point if we spend enough time on the water. Besides, not all calls are a tow. The one time I had to call was a dead battery, which I would hope should never happen again with all the back up systems I now have in place. It didn't need to be a tow....just an assist... but it unfortunately turned into a tow cause nobody could assist due to the Pro Am. Don't even get me started with lawsuits I've heard those stories too.
-
Sorry to hear that happened to you Nick. The Coast Guard will assist you if you are in danger of any sort. I know how frustrating it can be when they won't tow you in, but they need to be on call and ready for an emergency. If any of us experienced a life threatening emergency aboard our vessel, do you think we'd be OK with them getting to us as soon as they finished towing in someone who had engine trouble or ran out of gas? Boaters and LOU members need to band together and help each other out in times of crises. If you fish and boat regularly, you will get stranded on the water at some point. Nick is a good example....that's a brand new boat he just purchased . It happens. In Jersey, there are tow services and your expected to be signed up with one (like Rick is). If you're not...It's not the Coast Guard's fault. I really really really wish a towing service had a presence on lake O. Two years ago we got stranded on lake O during the Oswego Pro Am due to two dead batteries. It was my bad...my spares were in the truck. I had a battery drain and discharging alt. I was unaware of. Nobody would tow me in...give me a jump....run for my battery....nothing. It was a Pro Am and I understood. It was bumpy that day and few rec. boats were out so we were stuck! The Coast Guard stayed in touch and finally agreed to tow us in once it became apparent there were no other options. They were very cool about it, but expect a very thorough safety check if they ever do tow you in . In hindsight, the fact that nobody would assist us was pretty pathetic actually, because all we needed was a spare battery. It is what it is though....we need Sea Tow!!

We'll be there all 10 days I'll be splitting time between the Lucky Enuff boat and the More-On boat during the loc and then we'll be in the Lucky Enuff boat for the King of the Lake tournament. Boat is at the Wilson Boat House and we are staying at Four Mile site #070. There are a few other Lou members staying right near my site also....stop by and say hi if your in Four mile

I know for a fact there are Am teams that don't have a head. I have never noticed in the rules that one was "necessary" to compete? Simply a question on the entry form regarding whether you do or don't, and my understanding was that was to pair boats with the women observers. Thats just my understanding though....I could be wrong? We only have a porta potty in the cabin on my boat. We fish the Am division and have a blast doing It!! Hope to see you there -
We will be fishing the King of the lake event and we're really looking forward to it!! I believe my partner Jeff Jackson has a couple calls in to you Ivan? He sent you the check awhile ago I was lucky enough to participate in last years Wilson Salmon slam and anyone that was there will attest that it was absolutely first class all the way! The best one day event of the season...and it was free! Looking forward to seeing a lot of you guys there Good luck to all fishing this weekend's event in St. Catherine's!

Working on furniture way to much of the time, helping coach Justin's knee high baseball team (first game tonight ), working on my honey-do list, which grows faster than I'm getting things done & traveling with the family as much as possible. -
Fantastic boat Jim....congratulations!!! You fishing any of the tournaments out west ? We gotta get out with the kids one day this summer

WTP is the #1 choice...no doubt!! I don't understand why I can often times buy it in stores cheaper than online though? For another option, I have bought A LOT of tape through this guy on ebay. He ships fast and has a good selection. He'll combine shipping also. He carries one of my favorite tapes (motor oil/oil slick) and I couldn't seem to find it on the WTP site. http://stores.ebay.com/BAKERS-DOZEN_Wat ... idZ2QQtZkm

I agree with you LS, I'm going into my third season using 30lb Cajun on my mono rods and I can't say one bad thing about it. I have had no knot strength issues, nor have I lost any fish due to breakoffs.

I sure will...good or bad. They'll get we for the first time during the spring LOC. -
Sean, I'd like to take a look at those when we are out west in a few weeks. I've never seen those but it sounds like an option.

Thanks guys...I can't tell ya how helpful all this is. I have a 2003 Performance aluminum trailer right now with bunks. It's a great trailer, but it came without brakes . I'm putting the brakes on this spring, but before I invest that money into this trailer, I wanted to make sure it's the best trailer for the job. My boat is fairly heavy for a 24. With the twin I/O's, bridge and all the extras it's probably somewhere between 6500-7000 lbs. If I'm not all the way submerged, it's imposable to pull all the way on the trailer, so at times my back wheels on my van are in the water. It has never been a problem yet...just more of a pain than anything. Usually I leave the bunks partly out of the water and drive on as far as I can and crank it up till it stops. Then I back in as far as needed to get her all the way on. I only load and unload 4-5 times a year....if that. I'd guess it sits on the trailer 8 months a year.
