That sounds really cool Mark. I might have to consider that one. We have the Wii and ps2, but not ps3. Hey Rick, stop being such a bah humbug!! My kid has Rock Band and that's nowhere near as bad as when he practices his violin I actually enjoy the noise In the house....long as It's not on Sunday afternoon. Go Eagles

Way to go Stan!!!!! Like others have said, we are In a deep freeze here, so keep the pics and reports coming!

Great stuff . I have pondered this question often, Why do I fish? I think about this possibly because nobody In my Inner circle fishes, and certainly no one I know (minus people I have met on LOU) fish to the extreme that I do. I have often wondered why? Why has fishing always been such a mad passion of mine, often taking precedent over everything else. Catching fish has never been the main obsession of mine, but rather the mere act of fishing. Being a very competitive and passionate individual, catching just happens, but I have had many rewarding days on the water without any fish to show for It. Why do I enjoy It so much? My father enjoyed fishing, but we only fished together on rare occasion. In fact, when I lived In Florida as I child we lived on a lake and my dad and I had separate areas that we fished. I don't recall ever fishing there "side by side", but rather we fished opposite ends of the lake. I also don't recall him ever letting me pull In a fish that he hooked, like most of us do with our children. I remember going to Canada with him and my grandfather and never landing a fish the entire week. If I wanted to land a fish, It was up to me to hook one and that's just the way It was. He ALWAYS supported my habit though! In Florida as a kid, I used to catch bass and keep them In the bathtub till my dad got home so he could clean them. We were poor and ate fish A lot!! When we moved to Pa he would drive me to a lake any time I wanted to fish, drop me off, and pick me up at dark. He always had time to take me to the lake, but I wish he would have spent more time with me at the lake. Mom and Dad are long passed. Now I have a son, and I take Justin every chance I get. He's 9 and has caught more species of fish than most adults. Who knows If he will grow up with the passion I have with the sport, but he certainly has had plenty of exposure to It. Fishing has just been a part of my life from the time I could walk. In Florida as a kid, I used a cane pole and dough balls to catch shiners, which In turn I would use to catch bass (usually bigger than dad's). Maybe that exposure to It at such a young age really ingrained It In my soul. My first grade report card says "Rodney spends most of his time daydreaming and not enough time paying attention In class". Uh....yeah, I was thinking about going fishing Now, I'm 44 and nothing has changed. I still daydream about going fishing. An older and wiser friend of mine says that we are "tamed" predators and It's simply instinctive for us to fish and hunt. Some of us are more effected by this primal urge than others, but to simplify it, we really are true carnivores and It's only natural for men to not only catch our food, but to find extreme fulfillment In the hunt as well. The older I get the more I believe In that. How else do I explain my passion since childhood? I attach all types of "modern day reasonings" to why I go fishing, and from day to day they are accurate but they don't explain why I fish In the first place and why It has been a 44 year obsession. So...6 more weeks and this preditor and his offspring will be cruising the Florida Keys on our annual winter trip and no doubt half of It or more will be on the water fishing!!

Merry Christmas To All. Hope you all have a healthy and prosperous New Year!! Ray...now be nice or Salmon Clauss may skip your house this year

Yes, It's an Afd switch (automatic field dissconect) and that Is the switch that should be run for charging applications. It has two extra poles on the back (f1 & f2....If I remember right?) that get wired from the Alt. to the regulator.
-
Clarke, I'd like to hear Rick's reasoning also, as It may be different than mine. I actually don't get to run 4 divers very often cause we can only run 6 rods In the Am division, but we ran two on a side a several times In practice last year and I want to run It a lot more often this upcoming season. It worked great for us. I angle the rods like Rick does...high diver slightly higher and deeper diver parallel to the water. This way, when the high diver takes a hit In the forward holder, It will be unobstructed and won't come In contact with the deep diver rod next to It.

Send a Thank You to Our Troops For Christmas

I sent one Rick...It really was quick and easy. -
I charge my Electronics battery off one of my altenators with a Blue Sea 3003 Afd battery switch. I had the same problems as you, so I hooked this switch up late this past season and It has worked great. The last 6 or 7 trips I never charged the Electronics battery, where previously I was plugging It In every day. The diagram on the package was a little confusing and I spent a good part of a day getting It set up and running the wires, but It was well worth It. I'd suggest having a voltmeter on hand to test that everything Is working as It should when you are done. There are more complex systems from Blue Sea also, If you want to spend a little more.... so you have choices. Here Is the wiring instructions that I used. http://bluesea.com/files/resources/inst ... ersion.pdf Good Luck!!

Chowder, Theoretically you can start fighting that fish right away. The outside rod on the #3 setting Is higher and wider and should not interfere with the inside rod. It's important to understand your spread though, and you should have a good mental picture of where everything you have deployed is at below the water's surface. Understanding where everything Is, why It's there, and what It will do not only when a fish hits, but In other occurances such as a turn, Is the key to having tangle free days and going back Into port with the same number of dipsys you left with There Is usually going to be a lerning curve, so I'd start with one side and don't get to upset If you get tangled the first time or two. It happens!

When we run a four dipsey spread (you can do six also, If your crew/driver are expierenced), we use two different length rods. I use a 10'6 for the outside and 9'6 for the inside. First, the shallowest and widest rigs are sent out far to the sides of the boat. We put this diver on a #3 setting. Those rods are set in the farthest forward rod holders along each side of the boat. The next two Dipsy lines are set to dive down and slightly out to the sides on a #1 or 1 1/2 setting and placed in the next rod-holder positions toward the transom. Let them out very slowly and your set . As you troll along, it’s easy to change running depth without having to reel in. Basically, just lengthen or shorten your lines to increase or decrease running depths. When a fish hits and the dipsy trips, you'll be able to fight the fish behind the boat, and you net it over the transom. When your ready to set back up, you can simply reset the dipsy, drop It back into the water, and send it back out again to the same number on your line counter that you had the previos strike......slowly!! The dipsy should return to It's prior positions in your trolling spread without any other line/rod shuffling. Dipsys sort of swoop back into their proper places as you feed the line out under tension. The mistake I made most often as I was learning this method was I let the second dipsy out to fast. Don't be In any hurry when setting any of these rods. You can set the drag and let It creep out....then just go to the other side and start sending those out. Hope this helps

What's everyone asking Santa for this Christmas?

LTC Dave, Welcome to the site Dave, and thank you for serving our country . May will be here before you know It....stay safe! If you want to spend a day or two out on lake O when you return, Pm me. I'd be honored to have you aboard anytime.

They are gonna be great for you guys. Suzanne left a message a couple weeks back about them and they sounded tempting but I run Walkers and no way will they be happy with me If I ask them to pull 20lb sharks up from the bottom all day long They should be sweet for you guys with faster riggers though.

That's great Brian. Hope It works out. I'll be around that day getting ready to head to Orleans, so If anyone needs an extra teammate just give me a shout One Question) Will you be letting In last day sign-ups or Is It pre registration only?
-
That's kinda what I was thinking Mick. It's to rich for my blood, but right after the Niagara most of us are transitioning for the Orleans event the following weekend. I may be wrong Brian, but I just can't see a Monday tournament having much success. The Friday pre fish tournaments were very successful last year. It seemed like most had 50-60 or more teams. Expanding on that may have a better chance.....but a grand entry fee.......I dunno about that. Especially with the addition of two Scotties for 09.

Last year DR had their new line up available at the Lotsa show In February.

Time to start working overtime fellas DW has done It again and some of those SD"s are gonna be killer! I only see a couple I won't be buying. Don't ya think the Hawg wild, Crazy "B" and the mixed veggie are gonna be hot In the spring? Some great new summer additions too....

Very nice pictures Bill and Yankee !! I have the Big Jon's, and I like them a lot for trolling but If I were starting all over I'd definitly look at those Cisco's .

Dick, Personally, when fishing Lake O I keep my Furuno on Dual frequency/split screen most of the time. The 200 will mark the deep fish and the 50 will mark the fish that are up top. On 50, you will not mark many/any fish beyond about 50 ft of water because the cone angle Is becoming to wide and the signal weakens. The narrow cone on the 200 doesn't show much (that's not directly under the boat) until you get down beyond 50 ft. Keep In mind that the cone angle keeps increasing with depth. The wider It gets, the weaker It gets, so where the 50 leaves off, the 200 picks up. I'm no authority on fishfinders and I could be a little off on this, but I think that's the general Idea. That 582 Is a very good unit and my guess Is you just need to get It dialed In.

Ha Ha....I'm not to worried about that Bob I never did post those pics, so here they are. Nothin fancy, but It does the job. All that's left to do In the spring Is to shorten the bimini by 5" and run the light wire inside the tube Removal of a few bolts allows It to lay down for travel

Hey Kevin I'm hoping you have room for me again In the spring, I emailed you a couple weeks back. I will be talking with you about a Raymarine auto Pilot when I'm out there. If I have any $$ left by then I really want to get one Installed. I almost went with the Raymarine Radar, but opted at the last minute to go with a Furuno 1731 36 nm with the 4kw dome. I had a buddy make a hinged arch, and other than an Initial problem with the type of fasteners that he used In the hollow fiberglass, It has worked out perfectly. It came loose on our first trip out on the ocean when we got rocked In some big swells, but after changing the fasteners It was rock solid the rest of the season and It breaks down In like 5 min. Never had radar on a boat before, It's really cool!! We are really looking forward to spending the month of May In Wilson again. The Scotty Is gonna make It that much better

Oh..I do take him fishing often Tom. I guess I didn't word my phrase correctly. There are many times I can't just because of school or other reasons. I'm pretty fanatical about taking kids fishing.....I even had decals custom made for the side of my boat  I don't see three rods ever flying, but It would be cool If It did!

08 was Great! Can't wait to see what 09 has in store ? Tuff to pick, but here are a few highlights: Justin and Zane with a partial days catch In May Our day one first place box at the Sodus Pro Am. To bad the no culling rules made us keep the lil steelie on the end Our third place box at the Oswego Pre-fish tourney. The middle king was also our best king of 08. Second place finish In the Sodus Pro Am was a high point!! Sure would have been nice to hold onto that first....maybe next year. Big brown of the year Our big "youth" king of the year on my buddy Jeff's boat. Matt (Jeff's son) caught this one In Point Breeze.
