I would like to see a 3 rod regulation imposed and I think Tom has done a great job and hit the nail on the head with some terrific points. Four rods would be cool for a few of us, but overall I think Brian Is correct that we'd not only appear greedy, but I think overall It would do more harm than good. We put ourselves In the forefront and Peta would start showing up at our tournaments and turn our events upside down. Sometimes It's not so good to put yourself In the spotlight For me, I would fish more often!! I don't usually fish solo cause It's costly and a lot to go through driving from southeastern Pa and running the boat out to fish two rods. With the current regs, I might do one trip a year solo. Currently, If I don't have two or three guys I don't go. If the regs were changed to enable me to run three rods I'd definitely go more often solo or with my son. A 3 rod per man regulation would certainly pump more money into the local economy. You raise a good point though Tom, there will always be naysayers. No situation will be perfect and some will focus on the negative ahead of the positive. I can see some down sides to 3 rods per man, but It would appear that most think the good would outweigh the bad. I really don't think It would change much. People that want to run more rods find a way, people that can't, don't. Good thread Brian

It can be done, but I'm not sure I'd attempt unless It's above the water line. At any given rate, Here Is the how to directly from Lawrance: Transducer Cable Splicing Instructions. Lowrance does not recommend cutting and slicing of transducer cables. The connector ends are injection molded onto the cables and the transducer body housings are potted with an epoxy material to make this accessory completely waterproof. Water infiltration in this cable can cause delaminating, internal corrosion, and cable damage, which can result in poor performance at the least - and sounder malfunction or damage at the worst. If a cable is cut or broken we do provide some accessory connectors which are preferable to splicing if the cable remains long enough to reach. However if the cable is too short or a connector kit does not exist then you should follow these instruction to splice the cable. This procedure is best performed by a reputable and skilled electronics repair facility or technician. Cut the cable in a location that will place the splice in a protected area in the vessel. It should not be exposed to rain or spray, nor be allowed to lay in the Bilge or other area which will allow it to be submerged in water. If using a “heat shrink†insulating material, for either the center conductor connection, shield connection, overall splice, or all of the above, place over the cut ends now.Carefully strip approximately 1†of the outer insulation or jacket from the ends to be spliced. Unwrap the shield and twist it as shown below. Strip approximately 3/8†of the inner insulation (center conductor) from each end to be spliced. Twist the center conductors of the two ends together, then solder the connection. Use special care to allow full flow of solder without damaging or melting the insulator around the center conductors. This can result in a shorted connection and damage to the sounder. Wrap the solder joint in good quality electrical tape or heat shrink as appropriate. Twist the shield wires together and solder this connection. Wrap a small piece of Aluminum Foil over the entire splice. Make certain the foil makes a good contact with the shield wires to prevent, reduce, or eliminate electrical noise or interference. Finally wrap the entire splice with electrical tape or use the Heat shrink material previously installed to completely seal and insulate the splice connection. The transducer is now ready to use.

What's the best downrigger Release?
Fishtails replied to HOLY DIVER's topic in Tackle and Techniques
I agree with you Jeff, both work well and I guess It really comes down to personal preference. I use the scotty releases but I like the Blacks also. I never get false releases on the Scotty and I can really load them tight, so I figure If It ain't broke....dont fix It . Listining to you guys though, we may have to give the Roemer stacker a try next spring. When we stack, we use the Scotty stacker and It's fine, but you have to stop the rigger when It gets to the top and remove It. Sounds like that's not the case with the Roemer? I have one or two on the boat but never tried them? -
Not sure how far It Is from you Jeremy, but there Is a place In Sodus Point that I am pretty sure still has some indoor space avail. You can look him up, It's Prime Time storage. He also runs Prime Time charters In Sodus. I have the number somewhere If you need it.

Wow Chris....only 20-40 hrs? I've got 80hrs on mine In the short time since I put the new starboard drive on In late Aug. Your boat Is'nt even broken In yet! I'm very happy for you, I know you've been looking since we went to the show last February. Great looking boat.....congrats and the best of luck with It! I know you'll put It to good use.

I'd buy another one In a heartbeat! I can't wait till Christmas to give It to my son..... I still think It would be nice to see them produce some Salmon, but based on the few responses here maybe there Is not the market I thought there might be? I've made the suggestion and they seemed receptive. If anyone else would like to see them produce Salmon call them and ask If they carry Chinook (which they don't) If a few more people do that, they'll see the market and create some Salmon for us. They said they are always looking to add more fish to their Inventory. Here Is the number: Land & Sea Leading Wholesaler of Taxidermy Fiberglass Fish Reproductions! (800) 213-0027

Ray....are you hitting the sauce again? Ok, So I got the fish replica today and as promised I took a picture of It. Imo , It's pretty awesome for a $110 replica and I got It In only one day!! I'm very Impressed with the quality, couldn't be much happier actually. It's a great representation of the fish Justin caught. The real thing The Replica

Thanks Duane, that's actually the number I told her off the top of my head. If they were to produce only one size to start with, I figured 36" would be a good starting point. I wanted to know If you guys felt the same? I believe true "trophy" fish should probably be custom made from a picture or mounted traditionally, But that's to expensive for some people and takes to long for others. I thought this was a cool alternative. I didn't think Justin's fish was a true "trophy" and I honestly think he will top It within the next year or two, but I'm getting the striper replica for him to hang In his room with some framed pictures of him and his "lunker" because he seemed so proud of it and I think he's gonna absolutely love it! I'll let you know what I think when It arrives tomorrow or the next day

Hey guys, I found something pretty cool. My 9 yr old just caught a 36" Striped bass, so for Christmas I ordered him a replica of it. It should be here In a day or two and I will follow up on the quality, but they look pretty nice on the website. They carry a 27" Coho, but no Chinook. The lady said they add new ones often, so I suggested they consider adding some Chinook....what do you guys think? She said she would make the suggestion and get back to me. What size(s) do you think would be the most popular, and a good starting point for them? Give me your opinions and I will forward this link to her for them to read. Should they do a summer and fall colored fish? Here Is what I just ordered http://www.shop.zzfish.com/product.sc?c ... ductId=110

Hope your feeling better soon Bob!!

Thanks Duane and Ray. Maybe the best part of the day for us was when everyone at the dock came over to see Justin’s fish and while we were walking back to the truck he looked up at me and said “ Am I famous dad ?†You didn't miss any hot and heavy action yesterday Ray, but I heard It was very good earlier In the week before the noreaster. Still mostly short fish yet. I was hoping the big ones would show before I had to pull the boat, but It's just like the salmon season was for most of us. I'm so happy we were able to get that one good one for the boy! Btw Ray, I don't think I taught Rick much except how to get Umbrella rigs caught up In lobster traps. We lost two yesterday I tried to get some Lake O equipment out there but I get funny looks....especially when I put the otter boat out. Nobody uses them there. I did deploy one downrigger yesterday for the first time with a chrome J-plug but notta hit. My day will come

Took my 9yr old son Justin out today with Dieselhp for our last trip of the season to fish the Ocean at Sandy Hook NJ hoping to wrestle In some big stripe bass. The weather was was wet today and the wind was out of the south (not a good fishing wind), but the seas were doable so we headed out for a day of trolling on the Incoming tide. We left the dock at 11am and set up In 50 fow with a 4 rod spread (I even got a J-plug out there today). It wasn't to long and FISH ON. The wire rod fired with the 9er's chartreuse umbrella rig. Justin landed a 24" Striper and we quickly got the skunk out of the boat. It was released and we set back up. Trolled for maybe 15-20 min. and the same wire reel starts singing again....FISH ON! Diesel got the rod out of the holder and I got Justin's fighting belt on. We handed the rod over and Rick said It was a good fish. Justin fought It for awhile but was loosing ground so we decided to pull all the rods and take the boat out of gear so he had a better chance to land the fish. As always, Justin's determination was strong and he battled the fish all the way to the boat without any assistance and we finally netted our best striper of this short fall season. Justin was grinning ear to ear, especially when we told him that his was bigger than any I had caught this fall. He was so proud! We hooked up two more times, with Rick and myself getting our turns at bat, but we couldn't top the kid! Today was his day!! All the fish ended up hitting the same rod with the chartreuse 9er umbrella rig. Funny how some days they only want one thing. Talk on the dock was that It was a tough day fishing.....I know we didn't see another fish netted around us the entire time we were out, so we were lucky today! Justin and Diesel with his 36" 16 lb Striper Me and Justin back at the dock In front of the boat with his fish. Pulling the boat next week, but it was awesome to be able to extend the season after the Salmon were done. Time to start thinking the bar!!

Jax, I feel the same as Duane. I definitely don't think you feel that way. This was more just an opportunity to bring It up because It's apparent a very few do label us from Pa. I enjoy your posts and have enjoyed speaking with you at the Pro Ams. Nothing personal! I'm pretty sure the arrow Is pointed toward the fall river fishermen, which I am not. But still, that's like labeling someone just because of the part of town they live In. Like Jason said, snaggers know no boundaries and they come from everywhere.....even NY
-
Ditto on your sentiment Duane. I don't appreciate being "branded" because I live In Pa. I engaged In a discussion about this at the gas dock with a charter captain In Mexico this past fall who had the nerve to say he only allows NY clients on his boat and followed that statement up by saying he hates Pennsylvanians   What followed has only happened to me a handful of times In my 44 years....I was speechless

To bad Tom, but It's a good thing Ray didn't go along. He gets just a tad bit grumpy when everything doesn't go just perfectly :? But I'm sure you've never seen that side of him Just busting on ya Ray I know how you feel though. I've been trying to get out on the ocean for another (probably last) striped bass trip and If work doesn't Interfere the wind does. Had a trip planned this weekend with the family and now It's not looking so good. The wife and daughter need fairly calm seas or my life becomes miserable out there. The boat is In a slip just waiting to go and I'm stuck here at home Hey, at least were trying, right?

$2.17 today In Quakertown at the Wawa. It was 2.69 @ the marina last weekend Rick.....Hoping It will be cheaper this weekend

I am still running my 3 Walker's and they've been just fine to me. A little slow compared to some, but they do the job I ask of them. I did add the Walker tilt up bases to all 3 this past season (like scotty has) and that has been a terrific addition!
-
Having just used them, I like the 9er's myself. I'm a rookie with the umbrella rigs (Diesel knows alot more about them) but the 9er's are awesome and probably one of the better on the market. The are pricey, but top quality! The ones you ordered might be good and the investment Isn't as painful. If they take fish, you can always upgrade!!

Why not Mark? Hey Rick, that's a good point. Salmon, Stripers, browns, lakers will all usually take that trailer bait....It's those blues that like to crash the herd!
