biting flies.
Fishtails replied to StormFront's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Repel insect repellent w/ 40% deet. Worked like a charm for everyone on the boat this past weekend. -
Dude....that's a great report!! Looking at those pics I sure did get some sun. You could have told me to put on some freakin lotion!! Anyways...for the first time ever....I have very little to add. The boat sure has gone through some high's and low's recntly. I had a talk with her today and told her she's getting a time out in the driveway for awhile till she gets her act together. That's two weeks in a row we had to come in on one motor. Just been one of those seasons. It was great fishing with you Nick. We all fished really well together and I had a great time for sure!! Glad we were able to earn you those bragging rights in your home port. I will never forget looking to my left and to my right while I was fighting a fish, and seeing you and Ray fighting fish also. That triple was a sweet way to end the day Your a very good fisherman and your welcome on Lucky Enuff anytime. BTW....word through the grapevive has it we officially made it in with 5 seconds left. We coulda fished for 4 more seconds!!

LMAO !!!!!!!! I don't know nothin about that drain plug, but I haven't crapped in a couple days and I'm starting to get worried!! Okay....so here is how I remember it. Somehow or another we were the first team to box on Saturday's Pro Am and were sitting in first place in the AM division. Well aware of how amazing some of these teams are, It was pretty cool and an honor being the first team in to weigh in and we decided to celebrate the day by having a drink or 10. My buddy Ray and I managed to drink all my beer, so I figured why not drink all Ray K's ? Turns out he stock piles pretty well, and it was gonna take me longer than I had anticipated. With this in mind, I figured I better get acquainted with the pee station in Musky's trailer. After taking a wrong turn and being horrified by the thongs and handcuffs I saw on the table, I finally found the bathroom but it turned out Musky never leveled the trailer  I figure this is why I had a hard time standing up strait and ultimately took the tumble into the shower. A graceful fall it wasn't We definitely had a fun time sitting around trading stories, and I look forward to doing it again. Next time though, I'm just gonna pee in the bushes

Probably gonna be tough...esp. that time of year Rick. Let me know if you find something. How we looking on that fall striper fishing? I'm keeing some days open....we need to get after them a few days!!

OAK ORCHARD MONTHLY FISHING TOURNAMENT
Fishtails replied to Paul Czarnecki's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Great Idea Paul....and I agree that anyone can win these. I just learned a valuable lesson in the Sodus Pre fish derby that I will share with you all. I fished this past Friday tourney with Nick (Bobs Boy) in preparation for the Pro Am. Having no idea how the fishing would be, we boxed our first 3 kings so we would at least have a full box. After that we released a couple smaller fish and then boxed an 11 lbish brown. We then caught our second largest of the day, so we put that in the cooler to put us at 5 fish. We then went into catch and release mode since we had only 2 guys on the boat and could only keep 6 fish. As the day went on, we sorta lost track of what size our early fish were (they were laying under the bigger fish) , and released a couple larger ones thinking the early fish were bigger than they actually were. We finished in 11th place....one spot out of the money by ounces. We ended up only keeping the 5, but had we kept one of the young teenagers we released, we would have finished as high as 7th or 8th. What I learned is to weigh every fish I put in the cooler and write it down. This way I can make an informed decision when we decide to release a fish. Support these touneys and have a great time....they are alot of fun!!!! -
Don't listen to Ray....It was all me When I told him to head east out of Oswego Harbor towards Olcott and set up in front of the red barn, he knew I was talking in code See ya guys out there!
-
Hey guys.....don't forget to enter this. Anyone can win!! They need our support If we want to keep these Pre fish derbies going. If there is a problem getting entered, let Fishfull thinking or Bob of Salmonbound know and they will work it out. Look forward to seeing many of you there at the weigh in.
-
I'm a lil slow Clarke, but now I get it. I said that exact thing to Dave Chilson last time we spoke. I'm now entering everyone myself on line, and I'll collect when we hit the 600 fow mark This is all taking away from a great fish that I feel privileged to have done battle with. I refuse to let this side bar dampen my experience of catching that fish. I am already looking forward to hunting down another and next time all aboard will be entered, I'll make sure of that
-
Thanks.....Don't know where I got that from? I appreciate the correction!! You'd think all the times I've contacted him over the past day and 1/2 I'd know that....lol I'm such a nimrod sometimes!!
-
I will Jim......I'm heading up tomorrow. Are you fishing the Pro Am? I will have the boat behind Cowboy 37. Give me a shout on my cell when your around.
-
Are there standings anywhere on just the east end cup for the am teams?
-
Thanks........I must have talked with Dave 3 times yesterday. I called him as soon as the Pro Am was over and things settled down a little. Everyone on my boat is supposed to have a loc ticket. From now on....I'm gonna have to see it with me own two eyes. I asked Dave yesterday if he could leave it up one more day till I got home and could print it out I guess I'll just go catch another one in Sodus I gotta be real clear and direct about it with anyone who steps on the boat from now on. My fault for assuming Ditto Matt.....see you guys this weekend
-
Yes...I know Clarke. But it's probably all for not cause I called Dave Chilson first thing on Monday to inform him I found one guy one the boat didn't have a ticket. Dave and I talked on the phone at length about it. That's why I'm not making a big deal on it being a loc fish.... Next time...I will make sure EVERYONE on the boat shows me the ticket.
-
Thanks Rich.....it was tough fishing, wasn't it? She'll be good to go for Sodus. I blew two gaskets on the port motor running full bore Sat.....had her doing 37mph with a tank of gas, crew of 5 and loaded with "stuff". Ran it to hard for to long I guess.....the Oswego Pro am and my boat don't get along so well Didn't help us being down to one motor on Sunday, but that's the way it goes somedays. Give me a call on the cell when you get to Sodus!

Short report......I'll give a more detailed report on everything after the Sodus Pro Am cause It's late and I'm only home for one day till I leave again. Prefished on Friday in the Fat Nancy's shootout (well run Tom....great job and really sweet entry package!) Thanks to all the sponsors and Fat Nancy's!! We started inside and found lousy temp after Thursday's blow, so we trolled out to deeper water and picked up our first king over about 425 fow off the rigger. Next king came on the copper.... that smaller king would turn out to be our only copper hit for the 3 days we fished  . As I was taking that fish out of the net, I looked up just in time to see the rigger fire. The rod never popped up, but bounced and went strait down to the water. I grabbed it and the fish was off to Canada. 700+ ft of line out and I realized I could see the spool. Jeff Jackson did a great job clearing the wire and we did a sharp starboard turn to get some line back on the reel. I was never able to move the fish, so we kept doing large starboard turns and I fought the fish out the side of the boat. Our circles got tighter and tighter until the fish tired and we got it in the net.....what a rush!! We kept fishing and managed two more kings until we decided we better run in and weigh the fish. Here is a pic, along with our 3rd place box of fish from Friday.
-
Yeah, that 29 lb 7oz fish was our second king on friday morning. I'll post a picture and short report on another post. Nice meeting & hanging with you guys waiting for the boxes to trickle in alloutdoorsman. You guys had a great box....well done!
-
I know where your coming from Ray, but most Am teams have just as good of a chance as the Pro teams. It's only 3 fish....just gotta put a couple big boys in the box and your in the game. One thing I'd do different is to hand out the awards before the captains meeting instead of after. Btw....how bout a little thanks for me telling you guys where the fish were. Had I not told you to head east to the red barn.....could have been a whole different outcome for you Good meeting you guys though....see ya in Sodus.
-
Spoke with Dave T and he said it's cool as long as myself or the wife get there by 4-4:30 with your entry fee. Don't know if you spoke with Dave yet, but you need to fax him your completed entry form. Other than that....looks like you guys should be good to go!! I'm hooking the boat up and heading to Oswego....see some of you at the Pro am..........good luck to all
-
Okay.....got your pm, and we have two options as I see it. 1....I'm leaving Pa by 11...should be to Oswego by 3:30 and I will go strait there OR Wife is at Jellystone in Mexico and she could get it done earlier in the day for us, but she'd have to break down the RV.... and she'd do it, but I'd definitly get a little slack over it. She's a trooper though and she will pull through for you if Dave want's it there before the later part of the day. Lastly.....can someone find out what time the office is open till ?? Get back to me as to how ya wanna proceed and I'll check back in a little bit. Looks like we can get this done though
-
Gill.....If shark didn't make it, call and email Dave first thing to see if they will make an exception and let you sign up tomorrow. With the website confusion, I think it's understandable and they want as many teams as they can get, right? I can even stop by ask in person if need be. I know you guys are pumped to get in this and I'd hate to see ya miss it if at all poss. I will be in Oswego tomorrow. If you need, I can stop by for you and get you signed up if it's okay with the folks in charge. You can call me with the info and I can run a credit card through my business and use the cash for your entry. If that works, call my cell @ 610-217-4516 and we can get it done for you. If not......get that Sodus one sent and we'll see you in Sodus.
-
Wish I would have seen this post earlier....had the wife do our walk in this morning....we could have signed your team up for you and run your cc.....hope you were able to work it out.

Boating and lightning.... you should read this!
Fishtails replied to Fishtails's topic in Open Lake Discussion
That's an interesting thought Rob....I'd like to know the answer myself. Could it increase the risk of a strike? Lucky for us, we have Ray K who kindly pm'd me offering his services as The official LOU experimental lightning protection deployment technician!! He also offered Musky Bob's services as the "on-site" water technician. As Ray K coordinates the latitude and longitude positions of the lightning strikes using Doppler radar from his home base (he was concerned the risk of spilling his beer was just to high if he were out in the storm), he will relay the info from his recliner to Bob via cell phone. Bob (wearing Ray's company uniform consisting of nothing but a cape w/thunderbolt logo and a thong) will courageously head strait into the storm seeking out the elusive lightning bolts and deploy various experimental protection systems. I'd personally like to thank these guys for their unselfish offer and wish them the best of luck out there!! Sorry.....I probably shouldn't make light of such a serious situation but I just couldn't help myself -
You know....all boats can be tuff to trailer in high winds. That being said...I have had 2 roller trailers and drove onto both of them without problems. Once your on the rollers, just keep it in gear with just enough throttle to keep the boat from rolling backwards. Then....assuming your solo, walk to the front and lean over to attach your clip. The smaller the boat....the easier it is. My 18 ft lund fisherman was a breeze with a roller trailer. I now own two bunk trailers and I kinda miss the rollers.

You have one as well. There's a time and a place Clarke.....this board isn't the place !!! -
It may save a life! I got caught in a storm last month same as Bill, Rich & Eric did, fighting a fish on copper fishing out in Wilson. While clearing rods...my buddy got several jolts while reeling in a graphite rod, so.... like an idiot I picked it up and got a couple shocks myself  I did a little investigating when I got home to understand what happened a little better. Glad I did.....I found this article that really clarified the correlation between boating and lighning....and what you need to know. http://www.foremostboaters.com/safety/lightning.htm
