This is a brand new pattern, and though they don't call it a goby.... looks like it could pass for a goby imitation on the right day. Comes in ss and copper http://www.fishlander.com/Order_Page.as ... olden+Shad

If you search a little coup, you will find plenty of info on this site about copper rigs. It's a copper line setup you run similar to leadcore, but it has a faster sink rate than core does. The 300 & 400 is just how much copper line I had out to reach the fish I was targeting. Somedays it will take 500 or 600.

Thanks Paul & RR....That's all I wanted to know. THANKS for clearing it up for me !! See you guys @ the captians meeting.

I remember reading on this board that there was no culling this year, but while reading the rules it's not really defined that way. The rules state: The first legal limit of six fish brought on board must be kept. Last year, my understanding was we could release a legal fish as long as it was not netted/brought on board. I'm not reading this rule to be any different. Can we release a legal fish if it's not brought on board ? No culling means we can not selectively choose the fish we keep, which is very clear to me. Problem is the rules don't say "no culling". Can anyone help clear this up for me? Thanks!!

I'm staying @ 4 mile creek state park, as do many guys fror this board. I'm sure they have open spots....worse case is you will have to get a non-electric site on that weekend. Reservations are made through www.reserveamerica.com

Thanks guys....I think we spoiled them a little, but those boys had the time of their life!! Zane looked at me that night and said " I can't stop thinking about the sound of that screaming reel". I said "Zane, welcome to the club".....ya think he's hooked ? Pacific time.....both 300 & 400 copper rigs took fish for us. FX....Justin will be 10 next year, and according to him, he will own the youth division   ......let him pull in a few and all of a sudden he's Jimmy Houston

Rick.....either can work, but if you have room my son would love to go out also. That would make it a weekend.

What a great weekend it was out of Wilson this past weekend. 5/10....Took out my buddy Ray, his 7yr old son Zane and my 9 yr old Justin. We set up several miles west of wilson around 7am and searched till 8am till we found our first king. Justin landed that one and within a half hour it was Zane's turn. I was beyond impressed with that kid!! His king made several 300 ft runs, but he never gave up and landed it solo. Zane.....with his second big king..... Not to be out done by a 7 yr old, Justin landed a king on the 400 copper rod. We ended the day 11 for 12, with the boys landing 8 of the fish. Probably could have caught 20 had each battle not taken a half hour plus I finally got on a rod for the last fish of the afternoon, which we weighed in at 21 lbs.....missed the board by 9oz. Three of our fish were over 19 lbs, as was the one we lost. Here are the boys with their fish.....I don't think I've ever seen my son more tired....a day I don't think any of us will ever forget. We were 4 for 5 on the copper rods, the rest of our action was on the riggers. No wire bites for us. 3/4 of our hits came on flasher/fly combos. We fished deeper than most guys I talked to. 5/11....No pictures from Sunday. We fished the same area for 2 1/2 hours before the weather turned and we headed in. Justin was too tired to join us. First fish was on the copper and Zane jumped right on it......for about 2 min He was drained from the previous day and handed the pole to his dad till the fish was in sight...then took over again till it was in the net. We did a quick 6 fish and got off the water. Biggest we got Sun. was around 18lbs. All in all we were 17 for 20 with a lot of big kings. It would have been nice to make the board, but we fell just short on two fish. Maybe next year. Heading back Memorial day weekend thru the Pro Am.....see some of you there!!

Glad you guys got into the fish Greg. Good talking to ya out there! -
Here is a pic of my biggest, just couldn't get one big enuff. I ended up fishing alone most of the week after some unforeseen circumstances with the crew I went out with. Boating this particular fish solo was, well.....nerve racking. Still not sure how I got it in the boat. There were no boats around me when I hooked up, but I ended up steering thru the pack while fighting the fish. I started in 140fow and netted the fish in 75 fow, and that wasn't @ the bar.... I was about 8 miles west of Wilson. I see your boat Rick...I'll definitely stop over and say hello when I see you. I have the boat there all month so I'll keep a look out for you. I saw you guys come in one day but I had my hands full at the time. This is my first time out west....so I'll be all ears if ya wanna give me any tips....lol Btw....what's the best bar to hang out at? The one there at the marina? Rich.....I always run my doctored Kevorkian at some point. It was my most productive spoon last year, but I think it only took two fish this trip. Same as Rick here....I just couldn't get purple going. My two pole spread didn't help things It was like impossible to get dialed in on any patterns running two poles. I probably only averaged 5-7 hits a day, and I had to work hard for them. I tried a few black spoons, but I never did try a spook. I'll run that this weekend. How things going for you back east? Nick....You gonna be in Wilson? We'll be up this weekend and Memorial weekend also. I'll keep an eye out for you. I was up most of last week and I didn't talk to many guys that were killing them. There was very limited talk on the radio also.....then again it's derby time so I guess that's expected. Something tells me Canadian waters would have been the ticket last week, but I decided to save on the gas cause my fish wouldn't count anyway. Sorry for the long post..... Good luck to all this weekend !!

Well, Kind of a screwed up trip but after the weekend and getting over over being sick (puked on a boat for the first time EVER :x ) things have improved dramatically. It's been a slow and steady pick for me, but the boat has been running fantastic and the weather up till a couple hours ago has been great during this past week. Biggest fish came today.....19lbs 14oz off the rigger. I didn't bother running the 8 miles to weigh it in, so it drove around in the cooler 7 hours or it would have made the leader board for at least a day?? I'll add pics on my next report when I get home. It came over 140 fow 70 down on a hammer time spinny and a hammer fly. No one particular spoon or fly seems to be especially hot for me, a fish on this....fish on that. I'll be out of Wilson with a crew on the weekend and I'll post a more detailed report when I get home. BTW....The Wilson Boathouse Marina is first class!! I Love this place!

No...there is only one team Lucky Enuff Shade. Our Pro am team is Lucky Enuff cause we fish out of my boat. Clarke, who is a member of the team also, has his own boat called Waterlogged. He fished out of his boat often times during the derbies, etc. We will have both boats out in Wilson this weekend. We will arrive Thursday night....hope to see some of you out there. Be safe and good luck to all !!
-
We will be on the water Shade. Going out of Wilson....give us a shout.

Yes, you still need the pullies. I'd secure that grab rail also. You don't want the reel moving around. I have my pullies mounted about 3 ft back from the bow of the boat. This keeps my otter boats tracking almost directly strait out from my rod holders.
-
I use wire also. I know some use mono in the early spring when the kings are higher to get the divers further from the boat. I'm curious how many guys use this method, or do you stick with wire all season ?? BTW.....I spelled dipsy wrong in the poll  can you edit a poll....or am I missing something?
-
Which setup do you run for spring kings? Do you still use your wire rods, or do you use mono for dipsies untill the fish start to move deeper?
-
It just seems like this particular year class can't get a break!!

Maybe Captain Troy Creasy knows?? The 28th would be a good weekend. No Pro Am conflicts that weekend.

We are looking into booking a trip or two at the park this summer Bill. There is so much for the kids to do. I just need to learn the water and get the kids on some fish next time. Maybe I need to put a couple spinning rods on the boat....they would have been happy catching just about anything. Greg, I won't be getting out again till our west trip on the 1st. We will be out there on the 8, 9 & 10 also, so give me a call on my cell. We will be docked in Wilson.
