  1. Great day Bill!! Real nice pics! We finally got the boat wet Sunday around 3pm. There were more little things to get ready than I thought! First trip ever out of Fair Haven, the park was real nice, liked it alot! The boat did great on her shake down cruise. The fishing however, was not so good for me, and it is with great shame I must admit to my first skunk in a long time  . Being it was Sunday afternoon, there were no other boats to speak of, so I headed west and fished 7-30 ft with only one hit of the board (silver/black smithwick). I had the two small kids, wife & dog so it was hard to really focus on fishing. I probably fished to high, but fishing unfamiliar waters and so close to shore with so much going on in the boat I was afraid of getting hung up and loosing gear. GREAT to get out on the lake again!!!
  2. 18 gobies....and it was still feeding  Kinda like me when I eat Chinese food! Billy, Looks like we will be doing our shake down trip this weekend out of Fairhaven with the wife & kids. Never fished there before, but I want to check out the State park so that's where we are going. I'll keep an eye out for you.....I'm picking the boat up from Cook's Sat morning, so it looks like a Sat. pm and Sun am & pm trips.
  3. dukhnter8, Observing for a Pro Am team is a GREAT way to learn. Teams will be posting for an observer on this board, so depending on what one your looking at you will have little problem joining up....just keep an eye open or post what Pro Am your interested in and someone will contact you. Our team could use one for Oswego and/or Sodus. Some boats will have a head, some have a tin can. We have a porta potty in the cabin, but not a full head. You will need a lunch and drinks for yourself. If you think there is any chance of getting sea sick....take meds for it before you get on the boat. A team will not/ cannot bring you back in if you're sea sick. You cannot fish, or assist the team in any manner. Your job is to observe what the do, make sure they abide by the rules and keep a log of the fish caught. Also...many teams will pay you for the two days. It's a great way to learn new tricks and meet new people.
  4. I picked some up a couple weeks ago through Big Jon. I have a couple spares if you strike out Clark. http://www.bigjon.com/store/parts.asp Greg....Perry just called and said the boat is done. I have some minor stuff to button up, so maybe later on Sat. or Sunday?
  5. Will do bud, bet it was nice to get out on the water again! Mine might be done for the weekend, so maybe a Sunday shakedown if all goes well??
  6. Forget that last question....just saw your report Good to hear your shakdown went well!
  7. Hey Greg....sounds like you got the boat out...how did you do? Sorry I have not gotten back to you yet.....I did get your message, but I'm working 16 hour days to try to pay Cook's for mine...lol Did you get any lines wet?
  8. Thanks for the kind words Bill. I do think I will really enjoy it once I get over the sting of the mechanical bills I'm getting hit with right now. For a 24ft boat, she does handle big water very well. Trying to get it done right is very hard on the wallet.....as you of all people know!! It seem's like the mechanics find one thing after the next to fix or replace. Hopefully, it will be ready for me by the weekend. I restore things for a living, but this was my first boat, and probably my last. At least to this degree! Thanks for that tip Bill. I may not get to look into that till fall, but in the meantime at least I have it on my mind just in case. I can imagine that one would stump me! Do I replace just the stem, or is it wise to replace the Alum. fuel tank? It has the original tank and I had been thinking it might not be a bad idea to replace it one day. I'd love to see that boat of yours sometime!!!!!
  9. Terrific point guys....glad I asked cause I didn't even think about that . I'll make reservations at one of the marinas for the week. I appreciate the help!
  10. Fishshack....I'm a little confused. Is the dockage in the bay your speaking of part of the state park? Thanks
  11. Your right Fishhawk....sorry, I worded my phrase incorrectly. BTW....don't hold back, why not tell us how you really feel...
  12. Thanks Paul....that definitely answers part of my question. So I will definitely get a slip in Sodus for "at least" the pro Am days. I'll be staying in the area the whole week prior to the Pro Am with the family, so I'd still be interested in the viability of staying @ Fairhaven State Park and docking there for the mid week.
  13. I'm looking into Where I'm going to stay for the week for the Wayne Pro Am, and I was curious about Fairhaven Beach State Park. They have a couple spots left that will fit our RV, and It says they have dockage. The dockage would be in the pond, I'm guessing? Could a 24ft boat with a flybridge dock there and get out to the lake? On the map it looks like there is a bridge you have to pass under to enter the lake ??? Howz the depth? How far is this from Sodus ? So many questions  I've never fished this Pro am or stayed in this area so I'm kinda stupid on the subject. Would this be an okay place to stay, or is there a better place to keep the boat & RV? Thanks !!!!!
  14. Not to stick my 2 cents in where it doesn't belong, but why get upset if Wilson has a tourney for those slipped there? Why not get upset that Olcott doesn't? Seems like a few guys are misdirecting their frustration. Is their some sort of rivalry between these two towns/ports? If so.....rivelrys sure aren't anything new. I think your a little off track small fry accusing Wilson into luring boaters away from Olcott. As you stated, Marinas in Wilson are full.....thay don't need to do that and IMO that accusation is is a little out of line. I say a big thumbs up to Kevin and the Wilson gang!! They have raised the bar and hopefully other towns/ports will follow suit.
  15. Ditto what Billy said. I use the same knot on my copper rigs also.
  16. I don't have any...so it wasn't very difficult Just my fuel tank is below deck, but I can remove it easy if I need to access below. You raise a good point though for you guys with below deck storage. That's a hurdle you'd have to figure out depending on your situation.
  17. Gotta agree with you on that! Hopefully Wilson is leading the way for other towns/ports to start doing the same.
  18. We (Tean Lucky Enuff) are fishing It Musky. We'll be staying a few spots down from you an at 4 mile creek @ site#202. Since Ray will be with you, I'm gonna hope that's upwind from you guys. It will be Myself, Waterlogged, Jim Duncan, Steve Smith and Brian Diltz. I'll be there from the 22nd till the 1st. We are keeping the boat @ The Boatyard in Wison.....gonna be a blast!! We'll have to have a few beers with you guys. Anyone else staying @ 4 mile?
  19. That sounds great....our team is definitly in! Should be a really fun weekend!
  20. Congrats...Great looking boat! Enjoy your new toy and best of luck with it!!
  21. Awesome reort Jax....Thanks for sharing! Looks like you guys had a great time. Gotta love getting the kids out!!
  22. Freeman, I bought it strait from the company that makes it. You can order on line and you'll have it in several days. Here is their website address: http://www.dri-dek.com/
  23. Job well done Captains!! I was thinking about doing this myself in the next couple years, but from the way you guys are talking it sounds like a real ball buster! My concern is I ain't that smart Once you get your captains lic, Am I correct with my understanding of the rules that you can no longer fish the Am division in the Pro Ams?
  24. Thanks guys.....I know one thing.....there ain't hardly a crack or crevice on this boat I don't know.....I kinda like being that familiar with the only thing between me and lake bottom And you noticed I said almost done, didn't ya Legacy. I just gotta stop, but there's a few more things to keep me both busy and poor! Here is a picture of the Sea Ray interior when I first picked it up . It was in decent running condition and got us through the season last year, but needed lots of cosmetic TLC. That's a big engine box, eh? We actually use it as a rigging station and a seat when we're on the move, and it's strong enough for two big guys to stand on without a problem. Before restoration After restoration:
  25. Well.....I didn't really love all the labor actually :? So, who has an older boat that they have restored, or just done a lot of handiwork on ?? I bought our boat Lucky Enuff a little over a year ago, and I had no idea how much time, effort and $$ went into restoring a boat. She's not totally done....maybe 85% completed. I just installed twin rebuilt mercruiser 6 cyl. 165 engines w/ electronic ignitions, Don Cook is installing the outdrives they just rebuilt and aligning the motors. I installed dual station Sea Star hydraulic steering, all kinds of new parts & gadgets, gutted and restored the boat interior, completely restored the exterior in yacht white, etc, etc, etc. About 350+ hours later and way to much money, I'm calling it "Almost done"! Hopefully she'll now provide years of dependable service, as I plan on keeping her for awhile. Restoring this boat was fun, but I rank it in the same category as building my house as something I'm glad I did once.....but will never do again.
