Thank you Pat. I did talk with Dave Turner today and he said trailering is fine, as long as you are tied up to the bulkhead until the allowed time of departure. I think we're going to slip in Oswego at Wrights, just to make it easier, but It's nice to know all the options. Rod

White/ blue crush spin doctor with a hammer fly from A-TOM-MIC was my favorite rig last year. Green pro chip and a green crinkle fly was probably #2. Rod

Thanks Pat, I guess I'll call to get this trailer/port rule explained to me. I don't see anything in the rules saying I can't trailer the boat to and from the port, which in this case would be mexico. I just want to know my options, that's all. If Mikes Marina has any open slips left, I may be there by then anyway. At any rate, It looks like we have a team. Rod

Great fish Paul. Well done!!

I have a question on the trailering aspect. Can I not trailer the boat to the public launch on the little salmon if I have not found a marina by then? Why would that not be okay? I understand I'd then be running to Oswego via auto for the wiegh-in. Thanks Rod

Thank You...my questions have been answered (at least on this subject). Now, to get a team together. Rod

All his talk has gotten me ready to enter my first Pro Am. I am entering the Oswego as long as I can get my team together, but have some stupid questions, as I have yet to participate in anything but the loc. After reading the Am rules, my questions are: 1) Must you be in the oswego harbor with your boat each morning? If so, do you guys from Mexico bay area boat there in the morning, get dockage, trailer....what's best? 2) If my observer were to back out, or if I fail to get one, would I be unable to participate? 3) There is a 6 rod limit. Are cheaters allowed on the riggers? I'm reading 6 rods, not 6 lures. Would that be correct? Thanks for any help with these quesions! Rod

Congrats Paul ! Good to hear you and Lou are still Horsin Around on Wednesdays. I'm sure I'll be seeing you guys in Mexico Bay this summer. Tight Lines Rod

Mexico report /19 & 20

Thanks for the report Capt. Randy. I hope to get on the water this weekend. If I may ask, what fow are you finding the browns to be at early am? Are they still close to the shoreline? -
Hi Paul. I did put the boat In Sandy Pond, and took it out from there a few times only to find that my boat may have a lot of trouble come late summer getting out of the channel. I just got back from pulling it out of the Pond, and for the moment it's on the trailer. I am trying to make contact with the new owner of Stony Creek marina, but that's proving to be a challenge. At this point, that's where I am hoping to keep it for this year. The little Salmon is really far for me, and Henderson is too long of a boat ride to the fish. I always launch from Stony Creek & I really like the area. I never knew finding the right poc would be so difficult  If Stony creek marina doesn't work out it looks like I'll be trailering it this year. If anyone knows how to contact the new owner...PLEASE let me know. The old number is no longer in service. I stopped by but no one was there. There's only about 3 or 4 boats in the slips. Too bad about the Pond. It was a great spot but the water in the channel is only 1.5 feet under my boat. Rod

I don't know where it went? Hope it get's back up and on-line, I never printed it out.

Finally got the "Lucky Enuff" in the water this past weekend. Missed the LOU Wilson trip due to a sick child, so we stayed east and managed to get out once anyway. Managed 3 browns and this pike in a short morning trip out of Sandy Pond. Caught the pike off the rigger on a green glow frog NK spoon. Tight Lines Rod

Mexico Bay 5/15
Fishtails replied to InTheBox's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
I fished out of Sandy Pond in the am for a couple hours on the 14th and did similar going 3 for 4 on the browns with a 38" Northern thrown in. The northern was the only fish off the riggers. Besides the pike and one release, the riggers did nothin. All the brown action was off the board for me and all on an orange & gold jointed rapala. J-7 & J-9 both took fish. The Northern took a green NK glow frog. The Browns were still in tight in 7-15 fow. Rod -
I just got back from the company where I bought my bottom paint. I asked them why, when I asked for EVERYTHING I would need to paint a previously unpainted bottom, did they not sell me primer? It states on the can that primer is required. Well, it turns out that Blue Water has had a problem with the primer failing, causing all the paint to peel off. They now are recomending NO primer be used, and to paint directly over the fiberglass after using the dewaxer and sanding with 80 grit. This is for Blue Water paint, but as for the others I wouldn't know?

First real attempt...

Hey, days like those are what makes the good days so sweet! -
I just read the instructions on the can. I read them before but missed the section on preparing "new" fiberglass. On bare fiberglass, dewax with fiberglass prep and dewaxer. Sand with 100 grit paper to a dull finish. Apply 5 coats of high build epoxy primer, then two coats of antifoulant paint. Let dry and go fish..... Rod

I don't know about a barrier coat Mike. I was instructed to use fiberglass dewaxer/ bottom prep from Pettit. I used that to prepare the bottom, then painted with Ablitave from Blue Water. Rod

Hi Mike. Myself, I'd paint it. I just went through all the same questions with my lake boat, which is not new, but was always trailered and never bottom painted. About all I can say is my aluminum boat in The Thousand Islands would get pretty messy by seasons end. Then again, I'm docked in a cove with 3-6 ft of water. If you have deeper water you may have less of a problem, as the water will be colder. I already know what I'm up against, so I'd bottom paint in my area, but since your new to your location in Cape Vincent , maybe go a season and see how it plays out? You can always paint it later. Anyway...what did you buy? I still need a boat for the islands. I sold my lund to buy the lake boat, so now the summer camp is boat-less. cya up there....Rod

Do your research on the web. That's what I did and there is a ton of good advise. I used ablative as well. It's a nasty, dirty job and you really need to protect yourself from breathing in the sanding dust. From what I read, It needs to be done right or it may blister and fail. Good Luck!

It's been mentioned that fishing the canadian side "may" be more productive for kings out west this year. If that holds true, where do you fish on the Canadian side?? How many poles per person in the lake on the Canadian side, 1 or 2 ? I get my canadian Lic. each year anyway, cause I fish both sides in the Thousand Islands. One more question on the number of poles. I know I can run two poles for my 8 yr old son, how about my 4 yr old daughter? Can I count her as two poles, even though she could not possibly hande one ? Are the laws on this matter different on the canadian side? Thanks! Rod

Thank you Landing zone......I'm looking into that. That would be great If I can get in. Otherwise, I'll probably go check out the Wilson Launch like you suggest Rich. I'll drop the boat and check everything out when I get there on the 9th. If it's easier, what's a couple more miles? I'll stay in touch Rich. Won't be long and we'll be there!!! Thanks, Rod

Your right Ray. I guess I'll call to make sure they have parking for me in advance. I doubt I'll fit in a tent site. Besides the hieght and length of the boat, I pull it with a chevy 3500 extended van, so it's a long rig. I'm sure they have plenty of space somewhere. I checked in with a couple places for dock space, no call backs. Guess they think I'm a moran for even asking this late  I'll be fishing totally blind. Never been out there. Should be an adventure! If you guys see a 24 ft Searay called Lucky Enuff being pulled by a gold chevy van and looking very confused or lost, That would be me What's the best boat launch to hit leaving the Koa?? Rod
