The Sodus Pen Rearing Project will kick off Saturday, April 25, 2015. A work party is being formed to get the pens ready for the salmon that will arrive on Monday, April 27, 2015. We have two pens that need to have the nets and covers attached to them before we can move them to the location for the fish. We will start at 9:30 AM on Saturday the 25th. and with enough help, we should be done in two hours max. The pens are located behind Hollingsworths equiptment building (way in the rear) on Margaretta Road, across from Krenzer's boat storage lot. Margaretta Road runs E/W from Rt 14, across from the public launch, north of Arney's Marina. The pens will then be moved to the water location for arrival of the salmon. Dress warm and bring a pair of side cutters with you to assist in attaching the nets to the pens. Thanks in advance for your help.

Sodus Bay Net Pen Work Day- Need your help
Get-A-Way replied to 1fish2fish's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Thanks for taking on the project this year Jim. And for your help in the past. For those that don't know, Jim is no newcomer to pen rearing. He has helped out at Sodus and several other ports along the lake for years. A true sportsman. This is a rain or shine event so dress accordingly. With a good turnout, we should be done in a couple of hours. A special thanks to Tom Frank and his staff at Capt. Jack's Tavern for their help leading the project the past few years. So please lend us a hand if you can on the 25th, Katlynn's Marine Warehouse lot is right accross from Krenzers boat storage lot on Margaretta Road. Don't just reap the harvest, help us produce it. Thanks -

Always looking for more help with our pen-rearing project at Sodus Bay. Tom Frank owner of Capt. Jack's has done it the past few years, but is giving it up next year due to lack of support from those that make their living from the fishery. It is an on going battle every year to get helpers to commit to the project. L.O.C.B.A. has been supporting it for many, many years, along with local groups, Eagle scouts, and others. Our Pro-Am tournement raises money each year to continue the project. We are always looking for more on hands support. I have not heard of any takers for this coming spring. But that is no suprise. I send out nasty-grams every early spring looking for support. Seeing that L.O.C.B.A. has joined forces with the Genesse Charter Boat Association recently, I'm not sure of what may happen in the future. John Arney at Arneys Marina has given us space for the project for several years at no charge. We have two pens, and receive 50 thousand fingerlings each April, 25,000 per pen. Krenzer Marine has shown interest for next year,, but no final committment or approval. And just so you know, it all has to be approved by the D.E.C. as far as location, tempature, flow, and other factors. It is not an easy deal, believe me. That is why it is such a hassel every year.I hate to see this project fall by the wayside as our fishery at Sodus gets better every year, and I'm sure the pen-rearing project is a major factor. Let me know if you are interested and I'll point you in the right direction.Thanks. Dane

Thanks to all the teams, pro & am, that participated in the tournement at Sodus Point and made it another great success. Great weather (regardless of Nick's curse), more teams than last year, no major problems, and lots of prizes $$$ paid out. The new committee was on their A game and did a remarkable job. Hats off to Krenzer Marine, Tim, Julie, Dan and others, Capt. Jack's, Tom, Jeff, Brenda and the rest of the team, sponsers and donors, that make this another very successful and safe tournement. Here's to next year, bigger and better.

Call Tom @ 314-4199. He was on here a few days ago wanting to observe at our tournement.

Tom is not going anywhere. He is an established businessman. He has just had enough. It does wear on you after awhile. Especially with very little help. And he doesn't even fish. And to answer Capt. Rob, the water is usually rather low at Arney's Marina. We have had to use buckets; support the tubes from the truck on our shoulders to get the right angle; or whatever other way we could come up with. This year, due to lack of help, the pens are sitting on the bottom with hopes that the water will raise enough to get them to float before taking them out into the lake. Time will tell.

Tom Frank and a couple of others set them up and put them in last week.If you do not know Tom well, when he say's he will take care of something, and he gets a few extra minutes, boom, it gets done. We are going to miss him next year.

Sorry about that. 11:30 AM on Tuesday the 22nd of April. Thanks

Sodus pen fish will be arriving Tuesday April 22, 2014. The pens are located at Arney's Marina on Route 14 at the Bay. We could use some help loading the pens as they will be a distance from the stocking truck. Any help would be great. Stop by and meet Tom Frank from Capt. Jack's, he is overseeing the project again this year. It should not take more than an hour with enough help. Thanks.

Maybe we should not allow fishing in any of the creeks that empty into Lake Ontario also. And the thousands of fish that are taken in them. And this one extra in Naples supports Veterns. Come on. Really!!!!

INTERESTED IN OBSERVING FOR TOURNAMENTS
Get-A-Way replied to briggsy218's topic in Tournament Talk, Shows, Events & Seminars
Matt, Contact the tournement director of whichever tournement you would like to be at. Most of them have a list and give out the names to those that cannot find an observer. Another ides is just show up at the captain meetings the day before the tournements as there is ALWAYS some one needing one. Good luck & enjoy. -
Canandaigua Going to the Naples Trout Derby April 1st.. need some help
Get-A-Way replied to TrapperK's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
Hopefully the water will warm up by the first of April. The DEC shocked the creek this week and only had 8 fish from Rt 245 up past the town. Bring some of that Fla. sunshine up with you.Good luck.
