  1. What model Saltist would be best for a wire dipsey rod? Also what model would be best for a 10 color? Thanks in advance, DR
  2. Planning on buying my first copper rig. Think of getting a 450 paired with the Tekota 800LC and Okuma GLT 8.6 leacore/copper rod. Also, mainly plan on running this down the chute. Questions: 1. Any comments/suggestions on the combo I mentioned or better recommendations? 2. My thought for buying the 450 is that I can only run the copper part way out if the fish are higher...ie only put the 450 out 200 on the line counter if the fish are in the 40-50ft range. Is there a problem doing it this way? Can I run it off the board with a release doing it this way? 3. If I'm running the copper down the chute and have a wire dipsey out on each side should I pull the copper when doing turns? Thanks in advance. DR
  3. Looking for pre-rigged lead core set-ups - rod/real/line...the whole gig. Anybody know where I might find these?
  4. 180-200 FOW was best for us. Lots of steelhead and salmon yesterday and this afternoon was all salmon. Not many majors but there are some in the mix. Oddly enough, our best bite was midday with the high sun. Spoons down 90-100 took salmon with the steelhead coming on free sliders. Crazy **** and NBK spinnys out 280-300 worked as well. Great fishing right now.
  5. Nice job. We had a ton of bites as well, no size though. Hooked all our large fish pre-fishing and all our small fish during the tourney.
  6. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: A-lure-A ============== Had to give Wilson one last shot. Ended up finding the motherload. Too bad it was 6hrs into the morning and hour and a half before we had to leave. 10 Shark bites, all riggers at 45ft with cheaters, bright colored NKs, offshore and a liitle west of port. Don't waste your time going to the bar like we did. Good luck
  7. Sweet, I'm in! Received confirmation
  8. Anybody know if it is too late to register? Thanks
  9. Later part of the week looks better with a stable, warming weather pattern. This usually means favorable winds from the south and/or west. Being that the lake has now warmed, I don’t think it will take much to push the fish back east. I agree that a day or two of west winds will be all that it will take. One thing I have learned about the west end fishing is the fish move fast. I have had instances where I have gone from a zero salmon day at the bar to a fifty salmon day two days later. .. and the next day the mother-load was already in front of Wilson. I have also seen instances where a strong east/northeast wind followed by flat calm water had the fish concentrated out in the middle of the lake in 400ft of water. You just never know. If you could, I would watch the wind forecast and plan to be there when the wind switches. My gut tells me it will be a blood bath once that happens. Good Luck. DR
  10. You should be able to do some serious damage. Good Luck
  11. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:A-Lure-A ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):5/8/11 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS After 4 days of pounding coho and lakers out of Wilson, the kings finally arrived in numbers on the bar today. Kings, coho, and even a bonus Atlantic. Too bad they arrived just in time for many to leave. Get there if you can this week because I think they scatter quickly down to Wilson and beyond with all the bait we were seeing and the rapidly increasing surface temps. 30-40 down off the red can. Mag spoons worked best. ==================== Good luck! DR
  12. Thanks for the honest report. Do you think it is the rain or the wind...or both that is causing the muddy water? Also what surface temps do you have out there? Curious minds want to know. Thanks again for your helpful insight. DR
  13. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:A-lure-A ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 4/30, 5/1 Time on Water: 2 days, 6hrs each Weather/Temp: 60's Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: Surface Temp: 45-47 Location:East LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS Many browns, cohos, and even a laker and smallmouth came to play. Fished 6-10 FOW with mostly a board bite. Orange/Gold and firetiger sticks were best for us. Best brown was 11lbs, note quite big enough to weight. Find the green water and stay out of the mud. Off to Wilson to beat up some kings...hopefully. Good Luck, DR ====================
  14. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:A-Lure-A ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): April 23 Time on Water: 3 hrs Weather/Temp:70- Windy Wind Speed/Direction: SW/W Waves: 1-3 Surface Temp: 43-45 Location: roch LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: Total Boated: Species Breakdown: Browns, coho, and a laker Hot Lure: Firetiger Trolling Speed: 3 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 10-20 FOW Lure Depth: Surface ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS Finally got in on a piece of the action. Got out mid-day for a bit and put a hurting on the browns, coho, and we even got a laker. Most fish came on a 2 degree break. Doesn't appear that finding stained water will be a problem this year. Go get-em DR ====================
  15. Agree. We’ve been fishing the same area and it has been dynamite! Two people, four rods, and more doubles and triples then we could handle. Twice yesterday, I had coho grab my lure as I was attaching my fixed cheater…5 ft down and 10ft back near the prop wash. We also had a king attack two lures. Two rods popped and it was the same fish with both hooks in his mouth. Off the riggers green super glows have been great until about nine am and then it’s mostly NBKs after that. The NK green alewife was smoking tonight…Rod down, rod up from 7-8pm. 85-100 down on the riggers has been best for us. 300ft on the wire with a 3.5 setting. The purple nuclear spin doctor with a purple mirage fly and a black/purple dipsey has taken all our large kings. That combo turns on around 8:30am. It’s been mostly small and teenage kings, large coho and decent steelies for us. We also caught some lakers and browns in 100 FOW water yesterday morning. We had to get out of there because of all the small kings. We did get a real nice Atlantic about 15lbs as well. Tonight there were some big kings out in 250fow. There is a wicked current so watch your down speed. 2.5- 3.2 was best for us. Down current was running east to west. Fish preferred to have the lures run cross current (N/S troll) or trolled upstream (east troll). Fish always point upstream and they didn’t want the lures trolled down steam in their face on a west troll. The bite slowed considerably when we did this. Fleas are bad. I run 30lb test with a 10ft lead of 15lb fluorocarbon blood knotted to the end of it. That seems to do the trick. We released all our fish. Tried not to take the little guys out of the water and spent some time with the big guys reviving them. Most swam away to fight another day. Good luck, go get-em! DR
  16. Good fishing today. You should do well. 180ft to 210ft for us, 95ft on the riggers and 300 on the wire. Didn't go far. Straight out front. NBK NKs was the ticket and purple spinnies on the wire. Mostly kings with steelies and lakers in the mix. DR
  17. Does anybody know if a fish can be entered in both the LOC and Scotty for Big Fish Friday? I know the LOC requires that they keep the fish, but I’m not sure about Scotty. Obviously there would be a conflict of interest if they both do. Also, other than being entered in the Big Fish Friday contest ahead of time and following all proper fishing regulations are there any other rules to be aware of? See you all next week in Wilson. We have a blue & white 24 ft Sea Ray and will be docked at the last house before the piers on the west side of Wilson harbor along with Just Fishin. We look forward to seeing everybody there and good luck in the upcoming tourneys! Thanks in advance, A-Lure-A
  18. Thinking about fishing the Scotty in Wilson next year. Two questions: 1. Can a fish entered in the Scotty also be weighed in the LOC and vice-versa? 2. Can you pick and choose what series to fish in without having to fish them all to be eligible? Thanks in advance, A-Lure-A
  19. Just Fishin, A little birdie told me the salmon will be at the bar May 6,7,8,9 and 10th. DR
  20. Although Shipbuilders is certainly a good spot, I’m sure just about any creek mouth entering the lake right now would produce similar results. The point that I get out of this post is…damn I better start getting the boat ready! DR
  21. Doing good...can’t wait until next Spring LOC! Can’t come soon enough for Bildo and Pops either. I called Tom the past two weekends to get out with you guys but I think that guy is on a permanent vacation this summer. Should have got a law degree I guess. We need to hook up some time before the season is over so you can show me all your tricks and techniques. Out DR
  22. Nope you were in the right area, most likely browns and kings down there. Some days are better then others. The kings have stayed fairly close to shore this year. Lakers are a bit deeper. Wire with dodgers took most of our Kings today. Just have to work them until you find what they want. Our hook-up as compared to the number of marks we had was probably something like 15 to 1, so don’t give up if you don’t get a strike on the first pass. You know…never leave fish to find fish. One of the better theories us fisherman have come up with. Out DR
  23. Probably too many tug boats in your way Out DR
