Looking for people who want to go to fishing out of Gloucester.
chinook35 replied to rolmops's topic in Open Lake Discussion
This brings back fond memories . We had a bunch of guys from my rod and gun club that used to fish the Yankee Fleet out of Gloucester back in the 90's . We loved the two day trip out to Georges' Bank for cod . I think it was 1990 , we brought home 110 pounds of cod fillets apiece . The captain of the Yankee Freedom ,told us way back then to write our congressmen about the foreign factory ships on the banks . There were several HUGE ships , they carry a dozen or so trawlers on their decks ,which the winch over the side to fish . He told us ( and was very correct ) that the cod fishing would be gone in ten years . Fished out by foreign fishing .I was in the Crow's nest in 1991 ,sometime in August , The crew from the Andrea Gale may have been there that night ..I, too , hope the fishing on Georges' bank can recover . But it won't happen in my lifetime . -

The 1998 cormorant shoot on Little Galloo island brought attention to the cormorant problem on Lake O . I remember it well . Unfortunately ,the men involved paid hefty fines and some did time in fed prison . The egg oiling is a viable control method and needs to be continued . The feds have to change the laws protecting these birds . They fall under the migratory bird treaties and are protected by fed law . Back in the 80's , They were seen in flocks of hundreds . After the egg oiling program started the flocks seemed to be much smaller . This past season ,all over Mexico bay and north ,the flocks have grown again to large size . I am writing the DEC and my senators and congressmen to bring attention to this problem before it gets to the point of no return . Just for the record . The body count on little Galoo in 1998 was over 850 cormorants . Good shooting guys !

2016 season
chinook35 replied to chinook35's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
i fished Mexico bay from the nukes to the north dunes off Sandy pond in late July had reasonable fishing ( not hot and heavy) and there were lots of LT in the mix ( thankfully the LT bite all but disappeared in Aug.) I moved up to Stoney and Henderson in Aug. never got as far as Sackets. Fished the finger and lanes near the wall then the trench the lack of skippys may be a concern. Time will tell. I don't like catching them because of survivability issues considering the number of trips this year ( fewer) I am happy with my catch ratio and very pleased with the way the salmon program seems to be going. I read all the posts from all you knowledgeable folks on meetings and stocking quotas. It is way above my pay grade and I am glad you are on boardSent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United -
Had a much better season this year than the last two. Was not able to get out as much as last year due to health problems with my fishing buddy but the times I did get out the fishing was good. Caught many more mature ( over 20 lbs ) than last year and far fewer skippys this season has boosted my optimism for the future I hope next year is at least as good as this one. Have a great holiday season everyone Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Anyone else with a Mercruiser 3.0 have this problem?
chinook35 replied to jimalbert's topic in This Old Boat
this is probably your problem. Do you have mer carb or Rochester ? Float heights are different for the two Also possible problem is float valve. Did you use the viton or solid when you rebuilt. There is a Mercury service bulletin regarding float adjustment on 3.0 liter engines. You can google it Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United -
Long lines ( copper and lead core ) and heavy traffic = lost equipment . That's the equation. When the boat traffic is heavy , leave the copper in the boat. You can't expect other boats to give you that kind of clearance when it's crowded Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Just give him the international sign of discontent and continue on your way . Charter captains think they own the lake . Their rude behavior is noted by their clients and probably cost them business . That said , there are people out there that have NO clue and are a menace . So if you are courteous and respectful of other fishermen (Charters and recreational) , you have no reason to be berated by anyone .

see my earlier post about Lowrance/Navico re: my hook 7x. Would not give them hundreds to replace my warranty unit. The unit will not power off and drains the battery when not in use. I have a prepaid return label but have decided to just unplug the power cable and call it good till I can replace it with another brand next year. Never again a Lowrance. Ever.

i agree and also believe the gene pool has been compromised in the kings in Lake O the original fish from the west coast seemed to spawn at 4 years whereas the fish we are catching now tend to spawn at 3 years a year difference makes a big difference in size I have been chasing kings since the late seventies. I've seen boom and bust. But what I am hearing and reading is very troublesome to me. I think I am glad my fishing days are winding down. This fishery is going downhill

I use a green one on my starboard dipsy and a red one on the port dipsy. That way I don't have to look at the dipsy in the dark and I don't have them running under the boat. Lol

Lmao. U traded years of frustration on Onieda for years of frustration on Ontario. Kidding aside . Welcome and best of luck . I've caught a ton of walleye drifting a worm harness over pancake shoal .
