  1. I started to uncover the old girl today. Wind was a bit much to wrestle with the cover
  2. They still are. They haven’t moved an inch
  3. That’s not as funny as it sounds. Years ago the local ford/chevy/ everything dealer had a promotion he had Robbie Knieval here to jump like 150 cars. Rt 11 , a major 2 lane , had that exact thing happen. It became a parking lot , north and southbound lanes were totally blocked for 10 miles. People just got out of their cars and left them in the middle of the road. There is a golf course near the venue , and hundreds of cars parked on the fairways and greens. Tow trucks couldn’t get to them to tow. So I can see this happening for the eclipse
  4. I live in Watertown, right in the direct path. The city is warning of chaos 180000 extra people expected , traffic gridlock , the Watertown airport is expecting 157 inbound flights , they normally have 2-3 per day There are several streets being closed on the 8 th. The hospital has issued a special code. Only ER will be open for business. This should be an experience. I’m going to sit in my yard with a nice rum punch and watch the eclipse and the fun
  5. And anything but a bronze thru hull below the waterline is just asking to sink
  6. I got tired of fighting with alpha 1 exhaust bellows. I have the tool and have changed many bellows , but , last year I replaced my bellows with the tube , and have never looked back. Yes , it is louder with the tube and you get some exhaust soot in the transom , but I can live with both. It takes about 15 minutes to install the tube anybody else had any experience?? Mercrusier came out with the tube to relieve pressure build up in the bellows on big block engines. The bellows would balloon and put pressure on the drive shaft bellows causing wear and failure the only time the exhaust goes through the prop is in full down/ in trim im a happy camper with the tube
  7. The new super fast retrieval rates on the newer riggers can be a problem without snubbers to cushion the sudden stop and to keep the weight from coming out of the water in rough seas it doesn’t seem to be a problem with older riggers and ones without fast retrieval rates
  8. The stretch is what makes them work 😝
  9. I was a little shy about the dreamweaver rip cord snubbers. They are advertised as for diver snubbers and nowhere is there a weight recommendation for them. The Amish would be a good choice also with 500 # spectra So far the fish thief has worked well for me
  10. I’ve been using the fish thief ( Heavy Duty) snubbers in my Canon mag 10 STX with Uber fast retrieve for 3 years with no issues. Make sure you order the HD for weights up to 20#
  11. Been using 16# torpedos from troutman87 on this site. Great guy , great weight , great price
  12. I live in Watertown. I fish both Henderson and Oswego Oswego would be your best bet. Henderson ( the trench ) is a later (August-Sept ) fishery. The run out to the wall in the shipping channel ( main duck island ) is a haul and can be treacherous if the weather turns
  13. I used this rig as an extra line for years. A 16 or 24 oz lead ball on a three way swivel. The weight is attached to the swivel with 1 ft of mono ( 20 # test ) it’s killer on LT. I use wire line and a roller rod with a cv30 convector reel let out line slowly till you make contact with the bottom and reel in a few cranks. Put rod in rod holder down the chute and the wave action will make your rod look like a “ pump handle “ I don’t use it as much as I used to. I don’t target mud chickens on Lake O I’ve caught board fish at the national LT derby on Seneca with it
  14. Henderson has stopped the bass tourneys in their township due to high fish mortality
  15. A four rod tangle would be much more fun than a three rod tangle 😆
  16. Rapala husky jerks. Hj10 and 12. The gold with orange belly and the blue with orange belly get it done for me year after year. I like the neutral buoyancy for trolling I use the larger size because the bait is big in the spring as they come inshore to spawn.
  17. Wish I had some pics of lake O during this storm Wind speeds in upstate New YorkThe fastest recorded wind gust was 78 mph at Watertown International Airport in Jefferson
  18. That would be a huge loss to the salmonid fishery on LO year after year I have watched the decline in the pacific salmon program. The DEC made it known years ago , their focus is on restoring native species to LO. That means LT yuk I’m getting out less these days due to my age , but I’m glad I was around for the hay day in the 80’s and 90’s A box of 30+ kings was common then this new stocking program , using natural reproduction as a guideline for hatchery smolts , I’m afraid will be a boom or bust , year after year
  19. They sure smell and have lots of slime like democrats 😝
  20. This is not about conservation laws The DEC is hamstrung by treaties with indigenous peoples. They can fish anywhere, anytime and using whatever methods they choose. These treaties go way back and can’t be overturned without both sides agreeing. And I doubt that the Indians are about to give up
  21. Look at those red belly. They have been laying on the bottom
  22. Fished the trench today. Got to the launch at Henderson at 0630. Only boat in the parking lot never seen that before past years I’ve had to park up by the road Marked fish ( not wall to wall ) very few boats fishing. Was slow slow. Caught a whitefish on meat , dragged it around for a while before checking gear. Ended up with 2 LT and - whitefish. Not great
  23. It has nothing to do with the derby or the officials that run the derby. They require everyone on the boat be registered in said derby to eliminate the guys who would enter one name and fish with 2or3 hitchhikers. The split is between the fisher people on the boat. A written agreement is the only safe bet. There are times I fish with someone I barely know. Why take a chance ?
