boat canvas /curtain repair pulaski area?
chinook35 replied to dreamcatcher's topic in Open Lake Discussion
I can highly recommend Magee Canvas. They are in Brewerton, which is on Onieda Lake, but they have several mobile units which visit local marinas on a regular basis. I have had several mooring covers and top/side curtins made by this company over the years and the quality is unsurpassed. Their web address is www.mageecanvas.com . If you ask around at the pond you will find nothing but good things said about this company. -
I'll second that. I am on my third year with an SEI replacement for my Alpha 1 GenII . It has performed as good or better than the original. With SEI you get new ,not rebuilt and a three year no questions asked warranty. You will have to determine if you need upper or lower or both. Here's the address : http://www.sterndrive.cc/index.htm

Anyone who uses the Stoney Creek launch will recognize this view. The water is so low the pilings are out of the water.

I fished on the St. Lawrence River last Wednesday out of Clayton . The river is at least 2' low. The marina at French Creek has 2' under the boat , it usually is 4' deep in the marina . The water marks are evident on all the docks and rocks all along the river. This is a bad situation as this is the time of year when the water is usually the highest. The marinas will be high and dry by August if we don't get some serious rain.

I have found over the years that spring browns in shallow water are very line shy. I have flatlined with 6# line on my rods , using stickbaits and spoons, for years and landed many 10 # browns without losing gear. Light drags are a must ! For in line boards I use 12 # mainline connected to 8# floro leaders using clear plastic trolling rudders for the connection. The trolling rudders also stop the board from hitting the fish/lure. This setup works for me.

I'm with spoonfed . Had many a trip ruined by 2-3 ft. forecast that ended up being honest 3-5 footers. Best way is to find a buddy with a camp on the lake and call before you go.

This is very troubling . $450 million in Obama's stimulus money will go to a Chinese company to build wind turbines that will be used in the great lakes. This is just wrong ! The stimulus money is OUR money, donated by you and I in the form of taxes. To think that the money will be used to put chinese to work goes against the grain. This is a result of the panic that the power authorities are generating to get their agenda passed without a lot of scrutiny. We need a time out and slow things down so that all the options are on the table. Ther is NO reason that wind turbine's cannot be built in the US. Let the Chinese build plants in America to build turbines used in the states. I am still very much opposed to putting a wind farm on or in any of the Great Lakes, but I am afraid that alternative energy is needed and will be a fact of life in the future. We need to keep our collective eye on the progress of this change and fight for what we know is right.

It is my understanding that a license has already been granted to build a fourth nuclear reactor at Nine Mile Point. The only reason that I can see to build a windfarm on Lake O is to supply power downstate. The folks on the south shore of Long Island defeated a proposed off shore wind farm . They want the power without the turbines . Let us deal with the pollution both visual and material.

I really can't understand how the politicians can allow a Spanish company (Iberdrola) to own power generation facilities in America . I have been told that National Grid's headquarters are in Great Britain . I would think power generation and delivery would come under national security and be looked after by homeland security. I guess the headlines I have been reading are true . The United States really is FOR SALE .

I found a good source for 150# coated cable at Stamina.com. I replaced the 135 # cable that came with my SNT with it 3 years ago and it's still going strong .

Skipper, The MY on the poll is still a mystery. I contacted Newzjunky about the link and was not furnished with any information about the author, only the fact that the poll has been removed. Maybe it was a scam or phishing trip , the syntax and spelling led me to believe the author did not use english as their first language. It may have been the developer , it is my understanding they are not American. There is a link on the site that states that the PILOT is going to the full legislature and lists the politicians by name that either favor or oppose the project.

I just found a forum on a news website in Watertown that is asking for support for the Galoo island windfarm complete with false claims. Please go to http://www.newzjunky.com and scroll down to the link . You are able to vote for or against the project and add your comments. My comments will probably not go on any public forum anytime soon !! Please log on and VOTE Against this before it gets public support. There are a lot of people that read these lies and don't even have an idea where or what Galoo Island is. The link says "support Galoo Island windfarm" . Just a little P.S. I went back and read this pack of lies through a couple of times and the author really needs to learn how to spell . I will try and find out who is behind this item by contacting newzjunky . I am contacting any and all the folks I know who winter away from the lake to get them to vote.

Thanks Ray, that was my second idea I have a couple of 9' dipsey rods that I run braided line on. I think I will switch one over to wire . I can use it for both wire dipsey and thumper duty.

Din't forget the "secondary" proposal for power transmisssion . There is a proposal on the table to run submarine cables between Galoo and Nine Mile Point. All this attention to the overland lines might be used to draw attention from this part of the proposal. I think lines run along the lake floor right through prime fishing territory would be a huge mistake. Bottom fishing for Lake Trout would be a thing of the past . And there are , I'm sure, other valid reasons not to run these lines.

I am in the market for a new wire line rod with roller guides. I have a starfire now that i am not happy with . The line tends to jump out of the groove in the tip roller and makes it impossible to reel . Any one have any favorites ? And where can i buy it ? The Watertown Gander Mountain has one i like , but is is $100 and I hate to spend that much on a rod that is used only once in a while. Thanks for any help. Mark

I just came accross an article from the local Plattsburgh , NY news. The NY state court of appeals has rejected a move by the local neighborhood group to block a wind permit. The local laws prohibit the building of wind projects in residential areas , but the judge has approved the issuing of the permit while admitting it is illegal. Penn energy ( I believe the same company responsible for the plans on LO ) said their team remains prepared to oppose "frivolous actions" brought by neighborhood groups. It appears this company has a huge legal team to fight us. The article can be read at http://www.pressrepublican.com , click on news at the top of the page and scroll down to article. Any one able to attend the meeting in Pulaski at 10 AM , please post the results so we can all keep up with developments. Here's the direct link as-well: http://www.pressrepublican.com/0100_new ... 32654.html

Things have gotten ominously quiet. The last I have heard is the plan has been sent back to Jefferson County to hash out the PILOT agreement (after the Town of Hounsfield approved the site plan clearing the way for the pilot) . I have been going to the www.preservethegoldencrescent.com website daily to keep up with events. They have the sites proposed for turbines on Galoo and the site plan for transmission lines on their website and what I have seen is very disturbing. They also have a petition to Jefferson County opposing the project , please visit and sign . It seems that NY power authority and the downstate developer have gone to ground and are keeping things quiet. The Galoo project is slated to start this summer and the rest of the project within 2 years.

It's true. The Town of Hounsfield approved the site project for Galoo Island. The board said thre was no opposition from the residents of the Town of Hounsfield, only from outsiders. Sounds like BS to me. This whole deal stinks, there is money changing hands somewhere along the line. The preserve the golden crescent website has been putting the word out on this for some time. That there was no opposition is totally false. I personally called the phone # supplied and voiced my opposition , and I am willing to bet there were hundreds of like calls. This is the start of the huge wind farm in Mexico Bay . The Galoo project will need power lines and they are ready to use emminent domain to get the property they need to run these lines. The request for the transmission lines asks for carrying capacity four times what the Galoo project will produce. What does that tell us ?I think we may be fighting a losing battle.

The "close the barn door after the horse is already out" mentality needs to go . VHS is here and will be forever. The fish need to build up an immunity to it, just like we humans and the "Svine flu" . Tom, there has not been a decent replacement to your cut bait since you discontinued it's distribution in the US. I hope that sometime in the (near) future you will be able to supply your product in the US . I can only wish and hope. By the way , Tom , what will you take for the 5 pacs in the pic ?
