Salmon Staging Big Salmon and Little Salmon Rivers
chinook35 replied to Just1skipper2's topic in Open Lake Discussion
I believe temperature is much less a factor as the fish begin they’re transition to spawning mode. The factor that will drive them deeper is light 💡 penetration. Salmonids are averse to light. -

Scotty Release Tension
chinook35 replied to Just1skipper2's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
I agree the blacks are great releases the only problem is running them on a probe rigger I want my bait above the probe I use roemers on the probe rigger. The Scottie’s are good releases for sooons and 8 “ flasher/ fly. Trying to run larger flashers and meat behind them is tough. There is also a light and heavy setting on the Scottie’s. Slide the plastic clip that the tether is attached to toward the release for heavy and away for light -

Sure enough a 10 inch Atlantic. Never tripped the release. Swam away to grow up. All hits on spoons nbk was the ticket 🎫

Spiny fleas
chinook35 replied to MrKato's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
There are two different species of flea. The spiny water flea and the fishhook flea. The fish hooks are the hardest to get off your line. They are tenacious. They also smell worse than the spinys Spiny and fishhook waterfleas prefer large, deep, clear lakes, but can also be found in shallower waters. Spiny waterfleas move to deeper, cooler waters during the day and swim towards the water surface at night to feed, while fishhook waterfleas stay near the surface. this is a problem for us fisher people, we fish deep for the salmonids , so we are in spiny flea territory , but our lines cut through the top layers and into fishhook territory. Hate the critters -

Add a foot to ANY wave prediction. If it says 1-3 you can bet on 2-4

Also, keep in mind that just because your sonar is telling you that your bait is at 100 ft depth , it’s NOT Your depth finder is actually a distance finder It’s showing your weight at 100 , that’s 100 ft from the transducer , not 100 ft depth. Because of blowback , you may need to let out a lot more cable to actually reach 100 ft depth.

In the United States, a federal statute (46 U.S. Code sec. 2304) requires the master of any vessel subject to U.S. jurisdiction to “render assistance to any individual found at sea in danger of being lost,” so long as the assistance can be rendered without endangering the rescuing vessel or individuals on board. This law is a part of an international treaty (the International Convention on Salvage, 1989) which extends the obligation to mariners throughout the world. The statute includes criminal penalties that may include jail time for failing to render assistance.

You are coming out of the Salmon river on the East shore. I would turn north and fish shallow toward Sandy pond and floodwood
