  1. "If it is not mono back it with mono", is a good adage. Also, I would run bigger line than 25 or 30 between diver and lure. The line that comes with most flies is 40 or 50 pound, so it is proven that the fish are not spooked by line. With respect to knots at the swivel I used to use two crimps to connect the wire. Now I use the half hitch, overhand knot method and it is much easier to tie.
  2. Thank you very much for the response. i can always count on getting good info on here.....
  3. I was told the launches at Cayuga are shallow due to planned low lake levels. Can anyone tell me what launches are problems. Thanks
  4. Jammer, HAHAHA. I hoped it wasnt that obvious. Chris (holding the fish) said he wished i had cut off the fighting belt because it could be construed for other things.......
  5. This is a picture of the fish that Skyn 60 posted, but is right aftere we netted it. Beautiful Colors on those fresh kings
  6. Good news...The Launch/Motel is now owned by a former business aquaintance of mine named Ron Leonard. I think you will find his demeanor a little different than the former owner.....he is already talking abnout making some improvments to the launch...
  7. Rapala F9 and F11. But they are getting$$$$, and they don't hold up that well. Thundersticks are good too and a little more durable and a little less $. I was running a 3.5" rebel minow in silver blue and it was firing regularly. I had not used that lure in at least five years but it was working well. Rapala hot steel has been very good too.
  8. Coast Guard launch is usually open into late June. And, we fished Sunday. Excellent numbers for us. We found the opposite of Skippers Trophy. We were running tight to shore and evedrything kept hitting on the outside, and when we made our turns. So we adjusted and trolled outside a little bit and found a good bite.
  9. Anyone know if this afternoons wind and rain is providing any color at Sodus? Want to go tomorrow but dont want to drive up there if it is gin clear.
  10. We went to devils hole first thing saturday AM. I was puzzled because by 10 AM there was only 4 boats. We had two steelhead, but decided to head for the bar because we had a decent bite mid day Friday. Running to the bar we only saw one boat fishing art park. I couldnt figure why not more boats in the river. Then we got to the bar and not many out there. Maybe too foggy. I just bought a GPS/Sonar combo and was glad i had it. Our last drift at about 2:45 PM you couldnt see 50 yards....
  11. Too early. I have been told they are out deep this time of year.
  12. Which boat were you? No doubt we were next to you at some time. It was a slow bite. Our best time was from noon on. We found that our best drift was to set up just over into the deep water and drift with the boat sideways with the current. I use my GPS to get drift speed and found arnd 2 MPH wass best. With our boat pointing into the drift the current tends to push the boat slower. Its trial and error. I just got done cleaning the only fish we kept and it had no less than 30 baitfish in it. I wonder if they put on the feed bag before Friday and were on the downhill side of the bite???
  13. That was impolite of you to not invite us over for breakfast.......
  14. Chaos, I saw you guys park just off boulder and throw an anchor down. Did you have any action casting??
  15. Skyn 60 is a riggin fool back there.......great day as always.
  16. I am the 21' Crestliner hard top. I saw you Bobber. Chaos were you in the boat that had 6 people?
  17. Slow start today but once it warmd up they turned on. The green water just off the real muddy water close to shore was best. Orange, cold, and firetiger were best. Caught a few on just about everything. I was there yesterday and did not fish but its amazing what a difference in 24 hours. Yesterday it was muddy for as far as you could see (along with the 4 ft seas) and I ran through a snowstorm to get there. Today calm waters, starting to clear up and T-shirt weather by the end of the day.
  18. Kings are usually scarce til about mid april or later.
  19. Here is my setup for what it is worth... 14 lb trline xt with 10 lb seaguar leader. Leader tied to mainline with small BALL BEARING swivel. The swivel serves two purposes. Obvious is preventing twist in case your stickbait get hung up on itself or debris and starts to spin. Second is it may prevent a piece of grass or pther debris from makiong it down to your lkure. I run all floating stickbaits on the boards. f9 or F11 or similar bombers, thundersticks or rebels. Reason for flaoting is if you have boards out and find a pocket of fish you can turn on them and the slack board sticks will float up. If you run direct flat lines there will be no slack and you could run spoons. No need to get down more than a couple of feet, because you might want to scratch the shoreline. Find the colored water and the edges are good. troll 2 to 2.5 mph. Usually the more colored the water the brighter the lures need to be. After a couple of hits on a ceretain color load up on that color. Also I run 100 pulls (about 16 inches per pull) on clear or flat water and shorten to 50 feet if colored or choppy. 75 pulls for in between. The shorter the better if you are having positive results. Also, i have had little success in "gin clear" water. Spend time prospecting for colored water before you set up. BTW sorry for mispellings. I know how to spell but dont know how to type..... can someone tell me how to spellcheck?
  20. L&M, I epoxy the slot to elimate the problem of another line getting caught up inside the release. I have seen no evidence that the hole I am using is getting a groove in it from the planer line (Releases are at least 10 years old and maybe more like 15). Also, I like them being permanently attached to the line, that way i don't have to fumble around trying to hook them in or keep track of a bunch of them. I don't understand your logic about using tape. If your objective is to remove every time, that tape would have to be placed on the groove every time you snap one on the line.
  21. Hookedup-I use Clipper releases. They work very well. I epoxy the slots closed and thread them through the hole onto the planer line. Skyn-you are an important businessman and you haved to go to meetings while I fish.......
  22. Finally made it out after one cancelation and one dry run. After the blow this weekend the lake was either muddy or real green water as far as one could see. Fish were in the green water, none in the muddy water. Hard to find a hot spot as the colored water was wides spread. Most fish in 10 to 15 ft of water, then found a pocket of green water in close. Hot Steel, Orange, and Firetiger. Action was not as fast as some of the reports from last week, but we scratched out a dozen or so. Only one decent fish. Surely not like the pictures from last week. Here is a picture of a real pretty brown and a student who played hookey today.
  23. I just picked up a 2007 Alumacraft Navigator Sport with Full Windshield, Pasenger Console and Full Stand-Up Canvas. I removed the console on the passenger side. Basically, I made the boat into a CS Model. If someone has a CS model and would rather have full windhshield this will do the job. I marked every part when I removed it so reinstallition should be a couple hours. (Screws and about 16 pop rivets) There may be a minor amount of modification to the side plate on the CS model to make it mesh with the new console. I have detailed pictures of the parts showing how they go together. A minor amount of wear just above the glove box, just faded the grey paint to black. The clear acrylic in the canvas should proably be replaced, but the canvas itself is decent. I can send more pictures to anyone interested. I would like $590.
  24. We attempted to launch at Sodus today and the cold weather the last few days iced it up. Chunk ice clogged the entire channel and the coast guard launch was frozen. But, with the way the wind was blowing I suspect by end of day it may have blown out of there. We went west and must be either hughes or Pultneyville was open because there was one boat out there. Based on clear water we bagged it.
  25. Gert, I just received an email (4 08 PM) from Shameless and here is what he says: "I checked along the shore on my way home today. There was ice floating all along the shore as far as I could see and there were a few places where the wind or current had caused lines of ice chunks to form that went out from shore as far as I could see. I wouldn't take my boat out there yet and I assume no one else would either. I will report on the message board when it starts to clear." I will probably postpone. If i change my mind later tonite i will post. BTW if you do go consider a work around if the chute gets clogged....like letting someone off at the pier and then motoring to hughes, pultneyville or bear creek. That was my back up plan.
