Fleas at the OAK ?
Lund SSS replied to MRItech's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Why stop at 50 lb. test go with 80 or maybe 130 and some penn 130 internationals and some roller tip rods . Sorry I couldn't resist fleas are a nuisance but, one that you'll have to deal with. If the fishing is as good as it has been then in 3 weeks than you should be fighting fish so frequently there won't be time for them to build up on your 30 lb. test. Steve -

Well done Abe, Good to hear that the boat is where the fish are, now all you have to do is dial in those majors. If you start running SD's you'll start catching them (JK) . Might be out tomorrow if it's not blowing to bad. Steve -
Silver Fox Sandy report 7/18
Lund SSS replied to Silver Fox's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Scott, Team Nothin But Net /Triple S put a hurting on the " Skippies" today but, isn't that what Captain Keith H. is known for (JK) we went something like 16 for 20 today. All but 1 fish was less than 5 lbs. A nice atlantic that didn't make it, hooked way to deep. Wire out 220' was smoking hot with a DW gator. We left the creek at 5:15 and made Braddocks at 8:30 taking fish almost all the way. Keith let Dean and myself torture the little kings for most of the morning and then the rigger parked at 115' with a 42 second spin doc goes while I'm standing next to it, set the hook and, being that I'm a nice guy I give him the only REAL fish of the trip. King about 20 +/- a few. It was a good morning till the forecasted 1-3' turned to steady 4's wit white on top. High light of the trip was a steelhead that cracked off a spoon and rocketed an honest 8' to 10' out of the water on Dean, I've NEVER seen a fish come that far out of the water. Steve -

Silver Fox Sandy 7/10 & 7/11
Lund SSS replied to Silver Fox's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Kinda funny you say that Scott pulled the 400 copper all afternoon on Sunday and it only had 1 hit with nothing there. Ended the night having had a BAD case of the drops. 4 for 9 with only 1 decent fish. Was a pleasure meet you and Dad at the docks on Sat. AM Steve -
I'm pretty sure you answered you own question Anthony which ever fish is "higher" in a division is the only fish that LOC will pay on. At least that's how I read it. Maybe Mr. Chilson will voice in and clarify your question. Steve

Chubbedup, both of the shore structures I've referenced are to the West of the launch. The "Pumphouse" is the water treatment facility about a mile from the launch and "Devils Nose " is the west end of Hamlin beach. In all a troll of about 2-4 miles +/- anywhere in that 100' depth should put you in good water. Good Luck out there, Steve P.S Heading out around 3 and will report back later

Small kings ruled the morning but did manage to hook up with a couple good fish 1 was lost and the other ended up being just over 20. Thanks Keith for great morning, hoping the evening bite tomorrow is still as hot. Steve ====================

Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Triple S ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):7/8 Time on Water:6:00-12:00 Weather/Temp: HOLY CRAP IT'S HOT Wind Speed/Direction: None Waves: None Surface Temp: Up to 78.9 and rising Location: Pump House to Devils Nose LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: Over 30 Total Boated: 18 Species Breakdown: 2 Majors (Kings) and shakers, Lots of steelhead, 1 Brown , Cohos and yes a Laker if only we could have stuck an Atlantic Hot Lure: Gator spoon, NBK Stingray, Spin Doc green w/ Hammer Fly Trolling Speed: 2.25-3.0 Down Speed: 2.0-2.75 Boat Depth: 100'-250' Lure Depth: 60'-90' ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS Well the morning started rather slow then at about 7:15 bang first fish down 75' on Gator spoon, then the wire rips set at 300' with a #2 setting after landing a double, small king and a good steelhead. Start to put the pieces together and really put a hurting on them for about 2.5 hours. The best thing was the lack of current out there. Caught fish trolling in every direction. The wire set between 250' and 335' would go all morning with most of our better fish. Riggers depth varied between temp swings and I was constantly up/down with them finding that 48-50 temp. put us in the fish more often than warmer water. In all I'd have to say if it was any hotter I'd jump in with spoons on my toes and swim with them. Will be out again over the weekend and will keep posting any info I can Steve ====================

Sandy Monster King !!!
Lund SSS replied to Lund SSS's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
I agree. The Sgt 1st class must be a pretty short dude. 44" from knees to top of his head!!!! That's pretty funny, Scott is 5'3" tall and a special forces medic. As far as the weight I have a VERY accurate spring scale that is +/- a few ounces. When it first came to the boat I was more than a little excited by it's length thinking it would be at least 27-30 lb range but, scale doesn't lie. He's still swimming a least till it spawns out. Out again in the AM to try for a derby class fish Steve -
John, had a similar problem and after re-terminating the cable I took the tail of UN coated wire and fed it through the ring of the probe too "double" the contact points up the cable. Have not had any issues other than current fluctuations. Steve

Current was so bad thought about running back towards pumphouse to start over on the east troll. Great to get out when there really chewing on everything you throw at them !!!! Steve

I guess I'd ask you, how important is it to you to catch fish ????? You might be able to set a spread of spoons and stumble on to a fish but, if you know the speed at the ball you can combat the wild currents that almost always change the down speed by up too 2.5 mph when there cranking. This weekend did not turn many fish on a west troll, why ???? down speed was different. Turn north/south change of throttle bang, fish on. Start running spin doctors and they will lose there action if you go to fast, every lure has a perfect speed and when you run them at it they produce more fish but if you want to really "dial" in a hot bite you have to know your down speed. Mike, Been down the road and had to replace more tires than I'd like to talk about. I thought I save a few bucks and put decent radials under the Lund and yes I bought them at Sears. Found out that trailer tires are built different, stronger cords in the side walls for strength. They do ride a lot different so I found after spending $ 135 each. Trip to Canada last year was a tire on the trip up AND on the trip back I blew the other one. Good thing I stopped at Watertown Goodyear store and replaced the spare. Steve
