  6. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Hi-Voltage ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 9-4-11 Time on Water: 6 am - 4 pm Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: rough in the a.m. then waves subsized in the afternoon Surface Temp: Location: between I-Bay and Rochester LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 11 Total Boated:11 Species Breakdown: Kings, Coho & Steelie Hot Lure: gator spin doc & glow spoons Trolling Speed: Down Speed: 2.1-2.4 Boat Depth: 50 to 120 FOW Lure Depth: 40-70 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== This was just an amazing fishing trip for me after having spent a full day fishing with two great guys: Mark Cole & Mark Desantis on Hi-Voltage. I really had no idea of what to expect before I stepped on board the famous tournament boat from Rochester - Hi-Voltage - a beautiful 39 footer Sea Ray with beams so wide that you have to turn your heads to see both corners of the beam. I knew that the guys are proven fishermen who has fished in the pro-am circuit for a very long time. Talk about keeping your brain sharp and your eyes peeled wide open as I knew that this will be a terrific learning experience for me. We started the morning with some hesitation about heading out to the lake due to the looming threats coming from a band of storm front being pushed through Western NY. In no time, Mark Cole setted up the 9 rods spreads including the riggers, divers, and both coppers and leadcores on the otter boat. The rough wind did not hinder Mark from getting the spead out without incurring any tangles between the lines. Three riggers were set up 40, 55 and 70 down with spoons and spin docs. There were so many spin docs with different colors in the water. Clown(?) spin doc andthe Gator spin doc took most action. Divers 150' & 160' out. The morning bites were very active and about 10 fish were caught including high teens Kings, 9# coho and 10.5# steelie. The highlight was a 23# King. Once the wind died down, the fish bites became non-existent. The rigger were very quiet on that morning with an exception of one big hit on the rigger. This is just another great example of why I am very grateful about LOU. If it was not for LOU, I would not have met the great guys who share the same passions about fishing. Both, Mark Cole and Mark D. were very generous to take a novice fisherman like me out on the water and share with me their vast knowledge of fishing for the kings. Thank you Mark & Mark D. Best of luck with fishing till the end of the season.
  7. Awesome monster!
  8. Awesome steelbows! I really liked that nickname of that hard jumping, flying and diving sea monster!
  9. To my children's delight, I cancelled our fishing trip and took them to the Durand Eastman beach in Rochester. Great day to be boggie boarding on rough surf! Good luck with the LOC!
  10. Thanks for the report. Nice brown.
  11. Welcome aboard Hank. This is a great site for sharing fishing information and meeting old and new fishing buddies. Best of luck on the water.
  12. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 8-16 Time on Water: 6 - 9 pm Weather/Temp: Sunny & few clouds/ 80's Wind Speed/Direction: NW Waves: 2-3 Surface Temp: 74 Location: between Genny & IBay LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 3 Total Boated: 1 Species Breakdown: Kings & Laker Hot Lure: spin doc & Hammer Fly Trolling Speed: 3.1 Down Speed: 2.4 Boat Depth: 140-185 Lure Depth: 75-110 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== We went out last night with three newbies for an evening trolling. Ate quick dinner at Bayside Pub and yes they got the best steamed clams in town. Two riggers set up with one spin doc/fly and spoons. Diver 340' out and 275' out. Temp was 54 down 100' over 150 FOW. We started with a double on the divers. My friend from Syracuse has never caught King in his lifetime was delighted to land a nice 18#. My other friend's son had his first lake trolling experience. He plays on RIT baseball team and he has all the muscles needed to catch a big king. Long story short, as he was reeling in the first fish after 15 minutes battle, he jerked the rod so hard and he lost his first fish. By juding the fish about 50' back, I could see that it was a laker. My other friend was battling a king and he was puzzled everytime the king took more lines out. I told him it was called a screaming drag. About 15 minutes later, he has his first king - about 18# and it was released successfully. About an hour later, as the sun has just set down the horizon, a big hit took the spin doc /hammer fly off the 100' rigger. The drags were screaming and I knew we had a major on. Of course I made sure the hook is set before I gave the rod to this young man. He fought the fish for over 20 minutes. It was already so dark and he was battling the fish. The sad part was that as he was reeling in the fish, there was only 5 more feet left and I had a large net in my hands. He made the same mistake by shaking the rod so hard and the fish was gone. I told the young man to be calm and not to be upset because we will do this again the next time. Best of luck on the LOC. I would imagine that the board would be quiet for the next couple weeks.
  13. Awesome fishing trip you put together for the guests!
  14. Thats a fantastic fish! BTW, thank you for sharing the result of your fishing report. This has helped us find the fish in deeper water: 24 North to 25 North line. Best of luck on the water.
  15. Thats a great report! Thank you for the tip about heading offshore. We did better yesterday offshore compared to fishing inshore. Tight lines and best of luck on the LOC derby!
  16. The Lund boats are best in the aluminium boat category. Someone will be a very happy new owner.
  17. I was having a debate with a fellow fishermen who swears by using the scent attractor for fishing. Hes a bass man and me a salmon/trout/pike man. He offered to use his scent attractor and I refused to allow him to apply his scent attractors on my lures. He has fished with me from time to time and he kept on bringing up the subject about the scent attractor. I told him as long as I am catching fish on my boat, he needs to quit bringing up the topic again. I do not run meat rigs on my boat and I have seen my buddies use them with success. Lets share your experience with fellow LOU! Tight lines!
  18. Way to go Rollie! Congratulations on adding another fish to your wall of fame.
