Hey Matt: We spent a week at Riveria Maya last month. Everything went real well. There was no concerns or anything to do with the Mexico violence we read or dont read about everyday. We stayed at Cove Palace resort in Puerto Aventura which is about 35 miles south of Cancun. I booked a half day charter out of Puerto Aventura with my children and niece. There were plenty of charters to choose from and we ended up with 29' Luhr sportsfisherman boat. We were 3 for 6. Huge Baccaruda and two king mackeral. When it came to my turn after each kid had fish, a huge sailfish was on the line and swam abruptly to the back only to jump out of the water and spit the hook away. Depending on the age of your children, I have 13 and 12 year old kids and there are many activities for all ages. Two things to consider when you are down there: Take a full day activity at Xplor for exploring the underground river by hiking and swimming through the caves. Zipline was a big part of the excursion. Another family fun day was at Xel Ha, a gorgeous lagoon where you could snorkel all day long with your children in a very safe environment. Best of luck on the trip. Anthony

Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:Bravo ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 8/6 & 8/7 Time on Water: 5:45 - 10 30 Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: SE / SW Surface Temp: Location: I bay / Ibay to Genny LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 5 for 9 and 1 for 6 Total Boated: Kings and Laker Species Breakdown: Hot Lure: Green Spin Docs and Atomik Flies Trolling Speed: 2.5 - 2.8 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 120 to 180 FOW Lure Depth: 50 to 100 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== On Saturday morning, I took a bass master guy to give him an idea of why bass fishing should be replaced with salmon fishing and it was his first time fishing in Lake Ontario for the kings. I made up my mind on that morning to work on the inside waters. The kings are there in 120 to 170 FOW. We worked NE of Ibay and trolled West and East all morning. We had two riggers and two divers. The divers 260 and 310' out were armed with spin doc frog and atomik flies took three big kings - low 20#s. The riggers 60' and 95' took both teen king and lake trout. Given that I was driving the boat, my rookie buddy had to call my attention everytime the rod fired. I had to remind him to run to the rods instead of smacking my head and prompting me to turn my eye balls on the rods. My buddy got his first major king. low 20# brute. At around 10:30 a.m., we had to take off back to the shore and the rigger fired, 15 minutes came and it was the biggest king of the day. The screen became alive with so many hooks. I wished we could have stay for another hour. Sunday morning came, three of the buddies NEVER showed up. One guy backed down and the other two were dozzing off due to excessive from party at the Park Avenue festival. Darn it, where are you Chris when I needed you the most! Anyway, my baseball stats were horrible on that day: 1 for 6. Most bites came on the rigger in 140 to 170 FOW. The wire diver had a screamer and I fought the fish for 15 mintues and it was still 300 feet out. One hard shake and the fish was gone! This all goes back to the basic game plan - that is to have a sober crew lined up to fish with you everytime. If I am to go out again today, I would continue to work on the inside waters. The big kings are out there all right! I wish I could post the photos from my iphone. Best of luck on the water!

i-bay 7/30 solo double
Pike Hunter replied to MadPerry's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Great job out there MP! You are certainly learning the ropes from the LOU site. I am glad you ve started to use the cheaters. Thats why You got yourself a double on one rigger! About finding the salmon - you may want to add a variety of lures, not just spoons. Try to put in spin docs with atomik flies. The wire diver with spin doc and fly is a very hot set up for kings! I like to set up one rigger with spoons and the other rigger with spin doc and flys. Two wire divers rigged with spin docs and flys. Keep up with the good work out there. -

Sandy 7-28.

Nice work out there, Mike! What brought you to the Sandy creek? Did you launch your boat at Sandy creeK? Best of luck this weekend. -
Tom, good job on the save. You were wise to just call it quits and head back for a safe fishing day. Sometimes, one little thing can lead to another. ABout 6 years ago, when I was NEW to trolling, I had a pair of old cannon riggers which did not work well. It can drop the weight down and hold but it wont pull up anything more than 10#. I had to use gloves to pull up the cable manually. My friend had a ball watching me pull up cable everytime the rigger popped out.

7-20 evening i-bay
Pike Hunter replied to MadPerry's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Nice king! You may want to try to run the cheaters on your rigger with spoons. The cheater set up tends to land more fish as opposed to running the rigger without one. Whenever Im running the riggers, I have one set up with spoon and a cheater and the other rigger with a spin doc without cheater. With spin doc on a rigger, you dont want to use a cheater as it will create a mess down there. Best of luck on the water. -
Weird Pike/Muskie Behavior
Pike Hunter replied to Ronix 51's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
Most likely, the pike is trying to locate a small duck through hunting by sight. So I will go with #3 per Blue Eyes and WWIV. Heres one of my many fishing tales, I was on a jet ski with my nieice (prime witness) while we were entering the lake from the IBAY and we saw a huge pike swimming with its head outside the water. Twice, we circled the huge monster before it disappeared. This beast measured over 55" easily. The size of a huge girth makes me sick to the stomach. I never saw this fish again in my life. I spoke with locals and they told me this beast was actually hunting for ducks. -

Great photos of your family. Your daughter will always remember this. -
Congrats on your 8th place finish. This is not an easy feat to accomplish especially when you are competiting against the best of the best. Heck, think about it, this is your first year with your new boat and you are already in the "top ten". I really enjoyed the details about what you guys have done during the tournament. I kept thinking to myself someday.... I hope to join in the ranks on the am side with the fellas from LOU. Question: what is a twinkie rig? Is it a meat rig? Tight lines. Anthony

Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): Tuesday 7-19-11 Time on Water: 7:30 pm - 9 Weather/Temp: 80s Wind Speed/Direction: E / NE Waves: 2's Surface Temp: 75 Location: Irondequoit Bay LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): NE of IBAY =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 4 Total Boated: 4 Species Breakdown: Kings Hot Lure: gator, spin docs Trolling Speed: 2.8 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 150 -175 Lure Depth: 50 - 85 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== After reading all of the fantastic reports while being away from the Lake Ontario due to family vacation, I decided to hit it for a short time and took a co worker with me. Started out at 7:30 pm. Landed rods after 5 mile run NE. Then trolled westbound with the waves coming in from NE. Set up: 3 rod spread with two riggers 55' with gator spoon and cheater spoon black evil eye and 85' with green/silver spin doc and one diver. By the time the sun set, one by one the rods fired. We were battling the fish when we saw the third rod on fire. Talk about a triple on Tuesday evening. One teen king and the rest of the kings in the low 20's. We must have hit a school of good sized kings. We were only able to release 2 of the 4 fish. The floater we turned around to pick it up and brought it with us. We were fortunate to find someone at the dock to accept the fish and it was a father with his son who were amazed by the size of the fish. We are blessed to have this great fishery in our backyard. The kings are out there. Stay cool under the upcoming heat wave.

Beautiful fish! Sorry to hear about the lack of LOC ticket. We have been very an@l about making sure everybody buys LOC tickets on our boats. I remembered back then when I had to kick out one of the buddies from the boat because he did not buy the LOC ticket. Hope you will be able to repeat this feat with a LOC ticket in your pocket.
