  1. The derby fever has gotten to me. I am sure this question has surfaced in the past. If John Doe caught a first place King and he caught a first place steelhead, if I am reading this right, John will only be qualified for one division prize either it be king or steelhead. More likely, John will be qualified for the king because it would have weighted more than the steelhead "Is entitled to only one division cash prize. No participant may win more than one of the division prizes, although contestants may enter more than one fish. If the succeeding fish is larger, the smaller of the fish with least weight will be withdrawn." http://www.loc.org/derby/registration/derbyrules.asp
  2. Lost my 15lbs torpedo with the depth raider probe off Hedges in 45 FOW due to kink on the cable. I have marked this location on my GPS in case I have the necessary dive gear to salvage these items. Aside from this, be sure to get Blacks release before you connect the torpedo to your downrigger cable. I have a fixed black release and a free sliding black release on my port. The probe rigger only has a fixed black release.
  3. Fished last Saturday July 10th with Chris of Momay4000 and my 16 year old Niece from Florida. This brute took green dot/white spinny with an A-Tom-Mik Hammer fly out 285' over 185 FOW. The battle lasted 30 minutes before we boated this fish in.
  4. I love those pix of atlantic salmon! Great work out there!
  5. Pardon my duplicate posts, I tried to post this under the Summer LOC result using my blackberry pager. Instead, it showed up here.
  6. Hey guys, thank you for your words of encouragement. I hope to end up in the top 10 for the salmon division. Safe fishing everybody!

  8. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: bravo ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 7-10-11 Time on Water: 6 am - 8:30 am Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: 2-4 Surface Temp: Location: Rochester LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 4 Total Boated:3 Species Breakdown: king, steelhead Hot Lure: spin doc - atomik fly Trolling Speed: 2.6-3.0 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 160-185 Lure Depth: 50-110' ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Great morning out there with my buddy Chris of momay4000 and my niece jena from florida. King took greenspin doc with - atomik hammer fly on wire 280' over 180 fow. Brute made 350 run when it first hit. Nice 20 mins battle with this brute. I was fighting the king while Jena was driving behind the wheel and chris with net in his hands. My berkley scale showed 28#. We decided to head right away to weight the fish. Certified scale tipped to 32# and 12 oz. Unreal. Will post photo. Thanks to the folks at bayside tackle shop for their time weighting in the derby fish. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  9. Great job out there! What a better way to start the day with screaming drags.
  10. Thanks for sharing the report. Yesterday, I was telling my niece from Fl that we should be fishing in the evening. She said it was too hot to get out and she prefered to fish in the morning while it is cooler. It is unreal about how the fleas can pile up on your line so fast. Do we want a NW blow out to start the slate clean for next weekend?
  11. Rick, Thanks for sharing a great detailed report with photos. I like it when you made sure everybody on the boat has derby ticket so you could do a real derby fishing. I had to argue with my older brother who was visiting us from Brooklyn about buying the LOC derby ticket. My brother simply does not believe in me. I told my brother that I spend nearly $8-10K a year on my fishing addiction so why would I give it all away for the lack of $30 LOC ticket. So I ended up buying the LOC ticket for him(me). Good luck on your LOC steelie fish.
  12. Chris, I forgot to chime in when I saw the fish following my boat just 1 foot below the surface. I thought I should stop quit taking the pain killers for my sore back. Now, your experience had confirmed that the sighting of the fish behind my boat was real, not something from the pill.
  13. Thanks for sharing a fantastic report! I cannot take too much credit for your successful outing. You have outdone us when we were fishing in the same grounds yesterday at about the same time!!!! As a good captain would say, one must not blame on anybody else on the ship but himself. My brother from Brooklyn was fishing with me over the weekend and we had two bouts of tangles with the copper set up on each day. There was no reason for this mess to happen other than allowing your rookie brother to drive the boat while hes checking his droid. We only boated four fish yesterday - one nice 8 # steelhead took Steely Dan lure. Saturday, my bout of dealing with the unnecessary tangle was rewarded when my brother took his first king - about 21# off white spin doc with hammer fly. Good 15 minutes battle. I thought it was a steelehad given the way the fish trashed the water over and over. Also, I have bought a derby ticket for my brother JUST IN CASE. You will never know. Even though we did not even come close but I would rather end up with nothing than landing the biggest fish on my boat WITHOUT a derby ticket! Keep up with the excellent report! Safe fishing everyone.
  14. Way to go, Tom! We only managed one fish off rigger 110 down over 260 FOW. Nice 21 lbs king took protroll fly.Rigger took five hits overall.
  15. blue fox spinnerbaits, nothing expensive. My favorite yet easy set up is a plain old bobbers with fat suckers dangling.
  16. Wtg. Congrats on the derby king. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  17. Way to go Rick! Holy Sh*t is the right word to say when you re looking at this monster steelie.
  18. Congratulations Brian. I love that picture of a football/torpedo king!
  19. Congratuations Rod on your young son with his big king on the derby board. Not every Dad gets to see his son fish like that. Tight lines. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  20. ahoy Chris, you certainly have put together a great ariel show for the silver acrobats, That nice one who got away left me a night of disturned sleep. I just need to get back and haul em in. Hopefully the fish stays on the board. If not we can get out there to up the ante. Everyone else we re having a fantastic fishin in Rochester at this time of the year. About time. Safe fishin. 22. Mark, You want the Daiwa Sealine 47LCA not the cheaper one - accudepth. You could find a used one around $50 bucks each. You will notice that most folks dont sell them because they are highly popular. Check on craigslist everyday for these hard to find reels.
  23. FDNY thanks for sharing this very interesting article. As for everyone reading this post, in case you see the water receeding from the shoreline, it is time to run to safety.
  24. Everyday, something always happen. Just like the recent earthquake we had about half hour ago. Such a rarity. I just wonder if earthquake helps us catch more fish or this might scare away the fish from our lures. Maybe there is no effect at all. Perhaps, this is a sign from above. Or this could be caused by someone dancing on the boat somewhere in the big Lake O. I am sure Stan our LOU friend from California has experienced this from time to time. Perhaps, Stan would like to chime in.
