The derby fever has gotten to me. I am sure this question has surfaced in the past. If John Doe caught a first place King and he caught a first place steelhead, if I am reading this right, John will only be qualified for one division prize either it be king or steelhead. More likely, John will be qualified for the king because it would have weighted more than the steelhead "Is entitled to only one division cash prize. No participant may win more than one of the division prizes, although contestants may enter more than one fish. If the succeeding fish is larger, the smaller of the fish with least weight will be withdrawn." http://www.loc.org/derby/registration/derbyrules.asp

Lost my 15lbs torpedo with the depth raider probe off Hedges in 45 FOW due to kink on the cable. I have marked this location on my GPS in case I have the necessary dive gear to salvage these items. Aside from this, be sure to get Blacks release before you connect the torpedo to your downrigger cable. I have a fixed black release and a free sliding black release on my port. The probe rigger only has a fixed black release.

7/6 Evening IBay Report
Pike Hunter replied to UpGrady's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Thanks for sharing the report. Yesterday, I was telling my niece from Fl that we should be fishing in the evening. She said it was too hot to get out and she prefered to fish in the morning while it is cooler. It is unreal about how the fleas can pile up on your line so fast. Do we want a NW blow out to start the slate clean for next weekend? -
Rick, Thanks for sharing a great detailed report with photos. I like it when you made sure everybody on the boat has derby ticket so you could do a real derby fishing. I had to argue with my older brother who was visiting us from Brooklyn about buying the LOC derby ticket. My brother simply does not believe in me. I told my brother that I spend nearly $8-10K a year on my fishing addiction so why would I give it all away for the lack of $30 LOC ticket. So I ended up buying the LOC ticket for him(me). Good luck on your LOC steelie fish.

Thanks for sharing a fantastic report! I cannot take too much credit for your successful outing. You have outdone us when we were fishing in the same grounds yesterday at about the same time!!!! As a good captain would say, one must not blame on anybody else on the ship but himself. My brother from Brooklyn was fishing with me over the weekend and we had two bouts of tangles with the copper set up on each day. There was no reason for this mess to happen other than allowing your rookie brother to drive the boat while hes checking his droid. We only boated four fish yesterday - one nice 8 # steelhead took Steely Dan lure. Saturday, my bout of dealing with the unnecessary tangle was rewarded when my brother took his first king - about 21# off white spin doc with hammer fly. Good 15 minutes battle. I thought it was a steelehad given the way the fish trashed the water over and over. Also, I have bought a derby ticket for my brother JUST IN CASE. You will never know. Even though we did not even come close but I would rather end up with nothing than landing the biggest fish on my boat WITHOUT a derby ticket! Keep up with the excellent report! Safe fishing everyone.

Way to go, Tom! We only managed one fish off rigger 110 down over 260 FOW. Nice 21 lbs king took protroll fly.Rigger took five hits overall. -
blue fox spinnerbaits, nothing expensive. My favorite yet easy set up is a plain old bobbers with fat suckers dangling.

Mark, You want the Daiwa Sealine 47LCA not the cheaper one - accudepth. You could find a used one around $50 bucks each. You will notice that most folks dont sell them because they are highly popular. Check on craigslist everyday for these hard to find reels. -
FDNY thanks for sharing this very interesting article. As for everyone reading this post, in case you see the water receeding from the shoreline, it is time to run to safety.

Everyday, something always happen. Just like the recent earthquake we had about half hour ago. Such a rarity. I just wonder if earthquake helps us catch more fish or this might scare away the fish from our lures. Maybe there is no effect at all. Perhaps, this is a sign from above. Or this could be caused by someone dancing on the boat somewhere in the big Lake O. I am sure Stan our LOU friend from California has experienced this from time to time. Perhaps, Stan would like to chime in.
