  1. Way to go! Thank you for the great job running the website as well as kudos to the founders and the moderators who work very hard to make this board a valuable one stop source of fishing information.
  2. You have a choice of using the various lures as mentioned by Gambler and Gray Fox or a live bait. I have more success using spinner bait. You could set up a live bait using a bobber and a suckers or pike(large) minnows on a hook. Set up one rod with a live bait on the bobber and use other rod for casting various lures. Look for the weedlines and target these area. Overcast days are my favorite condition to target the pike.
  3. Thanks, Mark for the kind words of support! This is a great site for the LOU gang! I check this site more than any other website! Tight lines.
  4. Absolutely phenomenal picture! Thanks for sharing. I really like the new fishing board. I need to become confident in catching more fish before I dare to order that fishing board. I only landed one 11 lbs king in 3 hours of trolling yesterday. I would not be proud if if I had just one fish just to hang on that nice fishing board.
  5. Nice job on the trip with your bro and his 5 yr old. What a way to show them the Great lake fishing.. I was out for three hours 8 am to 11 am and had only one spoon hit by a teen king. Nothing stellar as I kept busy by changing lures, dodgers and flashers. My two buddies did not show up for whatever reasons that may have to do with the Park Ave festival. Good luck on your upcoming trips with your family.
  6. Wow. Great morning for you guys! The big fish in the picture really made your buddy look tiny. Only if I went out this morning....
  7. Fishing has been on a fire for you! Very helpful post. Will head out tomorrow a.m. Tight lines.
  8. Nice going! Good luck this weekend!
  9. Thanks Rod. Q - great going as it was a perfect evening to be out! YT, on the contrary, she does really enjoy reeling in that copper unlike my other friends who have whined about how long does it takes to finish reeling in. Best of luck this weekend.
  10. Pike Hunter : Fishing Report ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 7-30 Time on Water: 7 pm - 9 pm Temp/Weather: 72 Wind Speed/Direction: East Waves: 1 foot Surface Temp: 68.5 Location: North of I Bay LAT/LONG: (GPS Cords) =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 3 Total Boated: 1 (lost 1 fish by boat) Species Breakdown: King Hot Lure: NK28 Watermelon Trolling Speed: (2.8 Down Speed: (na Boat Depth: 150-185 Lure Depth: 55,85,110 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS =================== I took my daugther out this evening troll after I coaxed her to opt for trolling instead of bassing. My daughter wanted bass fishing after she saw the picture of the bass I caught yesterday. I felt bad for forcing us to hit the lake instead of the bay. Set up 80 and 100 with Deep rigger with white spin doc and atomik fly did not generate hit and spoon on upper rigger. Nothing. Saw a few marks on deep rigger but no dice. As I changed the spoon, my daughter wanted watermelon NK28. I set the rigger down 55' over 160 FOW. Ten minutes later, watermelon was taken by steelhead. Took her 10 minutes to bring the fish to the boat before she lost the fish. Brianna was a bit upset for losing the fish. I assured her that it is only practice and we will get better in time for the derby. It did not take too long for another hit and this time the fish went away. It became a bit dark around 8:30 pm, I asked my daughter to start to reel in the 600' copper. It was a good practice for her to get used to reeling in. After I reeled in from the deep rigger, the rod fired and I hooked in the fish and handed over to Brianna. I was able to slow down the motor and get the last rigger out. Took her good 15 minutes to land her first KING. Nice 17#. We released the fish successfully. On the ride back, Brianna said she agreed with me that trolling can be fun. I am hopeful she would lean toward trolling over bass'in someday.
  11. Chris, I am very moved by your amazing post. The king is not only caught by your hook but with your heart and you will have a great story to share about the king and memory about your Dad. Congratulations and Godspeed.
  12. JF, I feel for you as I have had my fair share of getting picked on by the guys on my boat. As a captain, you would know by now that you could find out who is/are the best swimmer in your crew. Yes, its a long swim back to the dock in case you dont command respect from your crew. All of this exchanges are pointing out to signs that we would do well fishing together sometimes soon! Tight lines.
  13. Hans, Glad to hear all is well with your family. Ahh, our eyes must be trained over and over to pick the right rod that has the fish on. I take this is just a good example of why some boats marked their riggers with number one, number two and so on. I went out to the bay yesterday and I can tell you that the black flies are GONE! I checked my fish box and they were NOT that dirty. I thought my boat was so dirty that it attracted ridiculous army of black flies. So, it was just the day of black flies last Tuesday. heres a little reading enjoyment for the Ibay boys: Spent 30 minutes around the Helds Cove and landed a nice sized bass. This fish made me bring my boat over and had to "tow" the fish out of the weeds. You know you have a good sized bass whenever the bass buries itself into the weeds. Couldnt find a scale so I put this fish back in safely to fight for another day.
  14. Thats a nice one! At least my wife could see a real proof that I have indeed went out fishing. Hows the proud papa doing?
  15. Fishnutz, Congratulations on putting the fish on the board. By any chance, do you have any picture of them brutes? Please post them under the thread - Summer LOC. Thanks.
  16. Chris, I had to get back home in time for a "dinner date" with my better half. Earlier, I had to beg her to let me go out fishing for a short time even after She has asked me to be home early and lay down by the pool side with ice cold drinks. Sounds good, but no, I wanted to hit the lake. For a moment on the boat, I thought I was being punished by a force of nature for dissing my wife as the black flies stormed my boat. Even though I have a hard time to admit this, my better half is ALMOST ALWAYS RIGHT. This felt like as if my manhood was stripped away whenever I declared that I should listen to my wife. Will I learn from this experience? Probably not. Tight lines. Anthony
  17. Good post! Chris - you continue to reign the title as King of I Bay. Black Flies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I went out with a buddy from 4:30 pm to 6 p.m. in between 90 and 120 FOW. Saw many marks in the top water column - they were so small as they had to be bait fish. No fish. Just ton of black flies. I thought I didnt clean up the fish boxes properly after fishing on Sunday. I had to run home after fishing all morning and did not to clean up the boat. Now, Chris, you have just verified that the black flies are out there regardless of how dirty my fish boxes are. I had a recurring nightmare last night with the army of black flies. My legs itchy yes. I think some of the black fly fangs are still stuck in my legs. I am more troubled about the black flies than me getting skunked. Im not sure if this is right mindset for any fisherman!
  18. Oh yeah YT, you re the man who taught me all about copper! My rookie friend had a cigarette in his hand and quickly stuck it to his mouth before he started to reel in the 600' copper. Of course, he had to spit out the cigarette as he did not realize he had to turn the reel so many times to bring in a line length of a two football fields!
  19. JR, Thanks for the good post. I agree with you about the teen kings. They sure fight better than adult salmon (sometimes). You dont know what hit you until you reel in to find out it is just a teen king. We went out yesterday morning 6 am to 11 am from 90 FOW to 185 FOW. We went 1 for 4 with #4 steelie and another salmon that I did not count because we lost this salmon just 10 feet away from the boat. My rookie friend who has never caught a salmon could not keep his rod steady. The Steelie took orange J-12 and the salmon took spin doc on 600' copper. I was armed with information that the cold water was in on Saturday and planned to fish for the higher column. With the screen on Sunday, all of the fish were found at the bottom. Hence, I kept my riggers at 80 and 110 and adjusted upwards due to no bites. Only if I could finish the depth raider installation..... Boats were sporadic - no real pattern in specific area. Best of luck next weekend.
  20. Nice going! Hope you resolve engine concerns. Thanks for the report.
  21. This reminds me of a recent joke about Michael Jackson's last words, "Please take me to the Children's Hospital! "
  22. Congratulations fellow I Bay fisherman! Great story.
  23. The gift card offer was received and payment will be coming. Thanks for looking.
