  1. Steelhead tail has what I would call dotted lines across entire tail. Steelhead mouth is white. Coho tail has dots only on top. Coho mouth is gray. Did you get any pics? JAM
  2. I have a 15 lb Shark running about 24" below my Moor Subtroll probe, off a Cannon Mag 10. Works great. JAM
  3. I think having just a Tekota 800LC loaded up with 50# powerpro backer and 450' of copper is a great way to go. It'll cover everything all the way down to around 100 feet deep. You can use the counter to let out just what you need, depending on how far out you want to go, and you can reset exactly where you got the bite! If you lose some line at some point due to a tangle and have to splice in some more, you dont need to worry about 'marked' copper. The counter takes care of that. The big Tekota with the counter is a bit more expensive, but it is an investment that gives great flexibility, repeatability, and a reel quality this is exceptional. Just one opinion... JAM
  4. I'm seeing a pretty large percentage of kings with adipose fins this year. (Maybe 1 in 3 or 4) Wonder if there are really that many naturals around? JAM
  5. Would that be the mag Obama spoon???
  6. I use 9'6" Daiwa Heartlands and 8' Shimano TDR MH. You can run both off one side. They're inexpensize ( $30-40 range ) and definitely get the job done. JAM
  7. Nice fish! What was the 400 copper pulling? JAM
  8. Fished yesterday evening off of Braddocks and picked 2 Cohos, 3 Kings (biggest 12 lb), and 6 Lakers (up to 12+). One of the hot setups was a Mountain Dew/ Mountain Dew/Glow Spin Dr. and a Mountain dew live /mirage tinsel fly out 180 on the wire dipsy. (Took at least 3 of the Lakers and one Coho.) Also took a couple kings last weekend on a white echip and hammer fly out 160 - 180 on a braided dipsy. So, the divers and flasher/flies are working, BUT, I do have to agree that, so far, the spoon bite IS better... JAM
  9. Mark, Nice job. Nice fish. Nice pics. You need to work some more on that tan... JAM
  10. Steve, I know, I know... Last fall I lost a bunch of wire on that reel and didn't really know how much. I thought I could get away with using it "for a while"... that lasted about 45 seconds. I need to be better about keeping a full reel. 50 bucks a crack to respool makes me think about it though... Live and learn! JAM
  11. My son, his buddy Jack and I got out Saturday morning around 7:00 and trolled the area from Russell to Long Pond. We wasted over an hour going for browns in the mud from near shore out to past 30 feet of water. We headed out a bit and got into some kings in 45-60 feet of water off of Crescent Beach. We went 1 for 2. Jack landed this 21 lb female that hit a NK Magnum Die Hard behind a green dipsy out 120 set on 3 (around 40 down) over 54 feet of water. We lost another that spooled us -- it took a Gold NK Magnum Natural Born Killer behind a yellow dipsy out 110 set on 2.5. The first run went out to 475, then the second went from about 350 out to 600, into the mono backer, and 'bink' went the mono and bye bye fish, wire, dispy, lure... Also snagged a HUGE alewife (a good 7" long). Must be why the mag NK spoons were working! We all had fun. Back at the dock by 10:30. Good first trip of the year. Off to buy some new 1000' spools of wire... JAM
  12. Just the treble will work, but you can put a small fly or a part of a larger one trimmed back to maybe 3/4 to an inch long in front of the treble. Be careful though, you'll probably end up catching a bunch of mud chickens.... JAM
  13. Yep...That would have been me! Cleos, Bombers, Rat-l-traps. Nothin' in the murky water close to shore. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  14. Good job Rick. Saw you pop a couple nice ones right out in front of my house... I was trying from shore but no luck. Hopefully the boat will be in soon. BTW, the new ride looks AWESOME! Jeff [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  15. Nice hybrid! Gray gums too... Good job! [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  16. Recently heard a rumor while out on the water that NK founder and inventor Pat Distaffen named the NK28 because he felt the optimum distance behind the ball for that spoon is 28 feet. Can anyone verify that story? Do you think in practice that it's true? If so, what's the best distance for the NK Mags? Thanks for your inputs... JAM
  17. I've caught fish that look like that one... looks like a hybrid to me. Definitely coho there, but a few too many spots on the lower tail to be full blooded. Anyway, it's a beauty! Congrats. JAM
  18. Check out this site: http://www.bowfinanglers.com/ I usually catch one a year around Braddocks... JAM
  19. Hey Shawn! Nice job out there. Looks to me like Debbie's fish is an Atlantic. JAM
  20. Nice job. What a brute! Congrats! JAM
