I just got my reproduction mount back from Rick Lax in Wisc. He does really nice work. This fish was my favorite fish story of all time for me in 55 yrs of fishing. It went something like this: Last June my Son had just got out of the Army as an Apache Pilot for 8 yrs. We hadn't fished much together since he was in the Army so we met in Minnesota to do some fishing. We went to Leech lake. Long story shortened, I was casting for Muskies and he was fishing for Walleyes at a reef that looked really good. All I had was 2 follows that day and he was getting some nice Walleyes. We drifted off the reef and it got deep, maybe 30 feet or so. At the end of the drift he said, lets take another pass through there. I agreed and put my musky rod down and picked up my Walleye rod so we could troll back to the start. I was using a Bagley Balsa diving shad bait in Chartreuse and Orange. Shortly after I got a fish on my Walleye rod (12 lb test and micro wire leader) and it felt like a small walleye, nothing special. As I was reeling it in, it went heavy and I said "this is not the same fish I just had". My Son thought I was nuts. Sure enough line started ripping off my Ambassedeur 6501c. Out in the distance this huge musky surfaces and then jumps clean out of the water. I got it up to the boat at least 4-5 times before it ripped drag back out and I had to start over. It got near the boat and came clean out of the water and we could see it had about an 18" Pike in its mouth that I had caught. I thought it was a Walleye at first but it turned out to be a Pike. Somehow the Bagley Shad hooked the Musky when he hit the Pike and he was hooked in the mouth. After 2 close misses on the net job by my Son, he finally nets it after an epic fight on my Walleye rod. As soon as he brought it into the boat, the plastic lip on the Bagley pulled out of the balsa body. Another run and it would of been gone. Anyways we measured 52" and were both shaking like a leaf. Best part about it was my Son was the net man! What a reunion. A fish story I will never forget and one that didn't get away. The fish was released. I had a reproduction mount done and the pics are below. The good lord was looking over. BP

Since when are they dumping sewage into Seneca? I thought that was outlawed years ago? Sounds like some sort of viral disease or waste from the Salt plant? This is so sickening..... No wonder when I put the camera down I never see anything other than a gin clear sterile bottom.....

I guess eating perch out of Long Pond doesnt look too appetizing anymore..... Jeez

Heres a pic of the Sandy Creek launches today Tues 5/2. Water wicked high and mud out in the lake as far as the eye can see. Hope you have a good pair of boots...

Are the docks above water at Ft Niagara? In the Rochester area they are all under water as the water is at flood stage, Highest since 1952 which was the highest of all time and only 8 " away from alltime record high levels and with another 1" of rain expected Thurs....good luck. Lots of mud too. Conditions are sh**.

If it's low water now, then it will never get up to an acceptable level. How much more has the water level have to raise? Its high everywhere else. Too bad about Sandy.....

Is this artificial barrier currently in place now? And will the navigation channel remain open naturally or will it still have to be dredged?

That channel has been like that for what 200 years?? They still dont have it figured out how to keep it open or just dont care. Too bad all our tax money goes to NYC or we might have money to fix things like this and the parkway stretch near Oak Orchard which is no longer useable. We cant use anything and have the highest tax rates in the country...... What a joke....NYS and the Town of unfriendly Greece.

I'm not sure if its true or not but it was on the news that when Trump gutted the EPA, the Great Lakes clean water funding projects are going down the tubes including the Braddocks project. I hope thats not the case but I think it might be. It is and has been embarrassing that the only port the town of Greece has on the Great Lakes is like 2 feet deep and mostly unnavigable. Sad and even on the ponds they hassle people, cant park on the road at Cranberry, put a giant rock so you cant launch, little access on Buck, Round, etc. Town of Greece is a total joke and so is NY for allowing this to happen. Public access to the Great Lakes sucks in this area. I wont give an opinion on Trump because I dont want to blow a gasket.

Depends what you are fishing for. One little secret from a spinner maker of over 25 yrs....the thinner wire does bend more but gives off much better vibration. For bass, pike, trout I use .029 and have had outstanding results. Bending is rarely an issue and if it does, just bend it back. For skis .051 is the norm but now many are going to .062. like the Spankys.

Kinda rare for any Muskies to be this far east (Fair Haven). Doesnt happen too often except Niagara region. The middle section of the lake is pretty much void of Muskies. Anyone else heard of any from Oak Orchard to Fairhaven stretch ? Too bad this one was kept obviously on the dock, bet it was 20-25 yrs old.

Oh no not again! Dr Farrell said they hadnt even recovered from the last die off. Maybe the hot water invites different diseases? Muskies can be anywhere along the eastern end as that is the summer haunts for many before returning to the river in fall. There has to be some die off from old age but it is concerning if anglers are seeing them dead all at once. That's 3 pictures right there. OMG. What a shame.

NPike My son is in the Army, he gets the glory not me. I haven't been in. I taught him how to fish though....... and hes pretty darn good at fishing and flying Apaches. Thank you for your service and everyone else who has served this great country (Yes it's still great!)

Thats a pretty good ratio 7-8 pike and get 1 tiger. You're doing something right. Congrats on a nice one last yr.
