I have it posted on a NJ salt water site, and will direct any inquiries to your post, but remember, its almost impossible to sell a boat of any type at this time of year.. If it doesn't sell soon, wrap it up, and try again in april and it will go fast, if not on this site then for sure on a downstate site.. bob

That is an mind boggling deal!!!... If you really need to sell now instead of spring , I must tell you its just the wrong time of year.. You are giving that boat away.. Your motor alone is worth close to $1600.. I recommend joining and advertising on these sites.. http://www.njfishing.com/forums/ http://www.noreast.com/ these 2 sites are more salt water sites, where center console boats are used in the bays and tidal rivers from march through dec for stripers, flounder, blackfish etc... Your Sportcraft is a very fine boat, but the center consoles are vastly under appreciated here in NY state... Selling any CC is a hard sell around here as most guys simply don't like the design for lakes.. I sure do though, but I just bought a 17, otherwise i would have grabbed yours in an instant.. Try listing it on a salt water site.. MENTION strongly that its been a fresh water only boat!.. Many motors down there are corroded from years of salt water use, and a clean motor free of salt wear and tear is a great selling point.. Believe me, guys will make the drive to grab a boat like yours at that price... Let me see if its ok to drive some traffic to your post fro the NJ site... bob

Got a 20 incher and a short in the susquehanna river in tioga county last evening around 5 PM.. Still lots of smaller SMB around, and they are very active and that tells me through experience that the water is still a little on the warm side for best walleye fishing.. A few more frosts and cold nights and the bite will consist of much larger SMB during mid day, with a lot of mixed size walleyes early in the morning and again in the evening.. Over the years I have found the best walleye fishing occurs after all the leaves are gone from the trees.. Not there yet.. For me its always been a short window, but late fall is when I catch a lot of good size walleyes in the river... bob

Keuka Keuka Lake Landlocked Salmon Basic Technique?

They are there, but some of us have fished Keuka for decades and never caught one.. Just not that many in there... Best bet is fish Cayuga or Seneca if you want salmon.. bob -
for sale : usa 18 foot Starcraft boat & Trailer $400
bulletbob replied to bulletbob's topic in Boats for Sale
Well, after close to a MONTH, the "buyer" has decided he doesn't want the boat, so its still for sale.. I wish he would have let me know before i removed the controls and harness.. anyway, as i said, the hull is solid, ,soft riding, tows like a dream, does NOT leak, and was always very dependable... Please if you are interested, and can use it, don't tell me "I'll be up next week to pick it up", and then after a month say you changed your mind.. Its not right guys... $400 takes it...... bob -

for sale : usa Trade 1977 100 HPJohnson for 50-60-HP motor
bulletbob posted a topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
Trade 1977 100 HPJohnson for 50-60-HP motor Johnson 1977 100 HP.. clean very well maintained, lightly used... Runs absolutely perfect, strong and fast.. idles beautifully, NEVER starts hard.. Good compression all the way around, and has been extremely good on gas for me.. Lower unit oil is clear and clean.. Brand new water pump, and just fogged for winter.. comes with controls/cable from the 70's but always worked flawlessly. Has power tilt. Its more motor than I want for a 17 ft aluminum center console Grumman I just bought, and I am looking for a 2 cylinder of 50,55, or 60 HP.. Not really looking for a 3 cyl, but might consider a 70, if thats all i can get.. Looking for something older as this motor is, but well maintained and PROBLEM FREE.. Engine is still on the boat, but controls and harness have been removed at this time., as I am selling the boat and trailer . If i get an offer, i can get it ready to run... Its probably worth $ 900-1000, but I would rather trade to someone that has a good motor but wants more HP.. I want to go the other way..... I am considering the year in trade value, this is an older motor, but its very well taken care of, and is problem free.. these old v4 "loopers" were among the best OB engines ever built... bob -

nltd fb group discuss adding cayuga
bulletbob replied to cinnamon fish's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
I'm with you.. The late great salt water fishing expert /writer Frank Woolner once wrote in one of his books concerning tournaments- "Fishing is not a competitive sport, its a contemplative sport" Bass tournaments have ruined the largemouth fishing in the north end of Cayuga Lake. That area was for many many years one of the premier bass fisheries in the US, and people from all over enjoyed it. Then the tournaments started... I know this site is tournament friendly, and I don't want to piss anyone off, but I personally will never understand the need to be competitive when fishing... bob -

for sale : usa 1987 Merc 70 HP- parts/project motor
bulletbob posted a topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
1987 Merc 70 HP- parts/project motor Super clean condition.. Brand new water pump, Zinc tab, Tilt/Trim, Carbs cleaned, plugs, lower unit oil,. prop is good,.. Just bought this motor on a Grumman 17 foot center console, and drove 600 miles to get it last week... It started and ran ok at the sellers house, ran kind of rough at idle, but was pissing like a race horse, ran cool, and revved fine... Thought it was just a "shaky idling 3 cyl" I should have looked closer.. When i ran it on Cayuga it ran fine at mid speeds, and high speed, but idling and low speed operation was not great... When I got home, on a hunch I tested compression.. Sure enough- 105-85-105... Out of spec, and it will probably never run right at idle, until the compression is even, and I REALLY don't want to spend thousands having a 1987 engine rebuilt... This engine is super clean, looks well maintained, and does run strong at speed... The guy lied of course, and told me the motor was perfect, knowing I lived in another state far away, ---when I found out the truth, I emailed him, and he wants NOTHING to with with anything now that he has his money... Motor is a 1987/88 I think.. I removed the oil injection system, but I have all the parts, and it can be easily re installed in minutes... It probably needs rings.... would make a great parts motor as half the stuff on it is either new or looks new, or freshening the powerhead if you know how, would make this a really nice engine for resale... Will accept best offer, and you can hear it run if you would like.. . its powerful and smooth off idle, .. Might consider trade for a 40 or 50.. No more 3 cyls for me, I have not had good luck with them... Will entertain any realistic offers.. bob -

Grumman Meter Series boats -Anyone familiar?
bulletbob replied to bulletbob's topic in This Old Boat
yes after about 85 they went to a cheaper more conventional design because they could not compete with other companies, and most boat buyers would not pay for the stout, over built, but expensive Grumman designs,, Back around 2000 or so, i bought a MINT 4.4 with a super clean merc 25 and galvanized trailer for $1000,,, I knew nothing of this design, but once I had it out on the water I realized it was very special hull for a 14 footer.. Had it in the teeth of terrible winds and churning caps on the Finger lakes and Raritan Bay in NJ, and the stability and solid tight feel were 2 steps above any other aluminum boat I ever had, or ever been in.. I sold that boat like a DOPE, and was missing it terribly instantly.. It was a tiller model, with a pull start merc motorand I wasn't a tiller kind of guy.. It took me YEARS to find a 4.4 with a factory side console, and I found one a few years ago in Philly, and drove down to get it.. I powered it with a Johnson 28SPL, and thats my small boat these days, and it NEVER gets sold, until I drop dead... The 5.0 I am buying has also taken me years to find, and I hope its half the boat its little brother is... I will write about it on this forum after I have it out a few times... They are supposed to be very good in rough water... 8 foot beam on a riveted 17 footer is pretty impressive.... bob -
Grumman Meter Series boats -Anyone familiar? Grumman Meter Series boats-anyone familiar? They were built between 1978 and about 1985, and many that know them consider them the best aluminum boats ever built. Thats debatable of course, but they are certainly the best riveted aluminum boats ever built.. I have a 4.4 [14 foot], and am driving a 600 mile round trip to pick up the flagship of this sereis, a 5.0 Center Console-[ 17 ft]... Designed to be as stable and seaworthy as anything else built in their size range, very hard to find, and not all that cheap when you do find one.. It took me years to find this 17 footer.. I have my doubts that anyone here knows these boats, as they have been out of production for over 30 years, but figured it was worth a shot, maybe someone had or has one they would like to talk about.. When I have my 4.4 out in steady 30 mph wind on a heavy chop with raging caps on NY state Finger Lakes, I often shake my head, that I can fish easily and with good stability, when 16 footers of conventional design head back in to the ramp.. Is there anyone on this forum that knows these boats?.. bob

Not critical.. Just feel sorry for him and his loved ones.. 3 guys in the water, 1 drowns.... By law he needed to have those 3 jackets available, but like most, sadly he had them stowed out of quick reach.. Same as most all of us do... think about the fishing trips you go out on regularly.. How many guys do we see wearing a jacket???.. Never, .. I am the only adult I ever see wearing one on any given fishing trip... I feel silly sometimes, but wear it anyway.. More of us should wear them I think..

for sale : usa 18 foot Starcraft boat & Trailer $400
bulletbob replied to bulletbob's topic in Boats for Sale
guys, as of right this second I can't show the boat until next week.. I am going to Vermont on weds. to pick up a 1983 Grumman 5.0 Center Console.. They are considered by many to be the best aluminum boats ever built- Grumman Meter Series.. they are rare,.. Thats the ONLY reason I am selling the Starcraft.. Its been a stout, stable ,very reliable boat, but the Grumman is something I have been searching for for years and years.. I have 4.4 Meter 14 foot Grumman, and it makes other aluminum boats look silly with its overbuilt construction, and unreal stability. I simply need to make sure everything goes well on weds, and that I do indeed get the boat I am driving 6 hours each way for. I suppose I should have waited until the Grumman deal was done before posting this, but I figured its tough to sell a boat this time of year, and wanted to get started... a forum member that has a moniker of nijajordan was first to respond, and its only fair he gets first dibs.. I will keep any interested parties informed... bob -
(Re listing this boat that I had on here last year.. Can no longer be water tested as the controls have been removed as it was "sold" last year, and when everything was off the boat, the buyer changed his mind.. All else is as stated in the original listing.... bob 18 foot Starcraft boat & Trailer $400 Its got leaves and some junk in it from sitting all summer.. Needs a cleanup etc.. Seats as you can see are about done... Thats being said, the hull is in great shape, floor was replaced a few years ago and is solid.. Boat doesn't leak, and i have had it out in massive churning whitecaps more than once and stayed dry... has brand new Teleflex steering cable installed in july, and never used after.. Put brand new tires on the trailer at the same time, parked it, and they have never even seen the road... this was a Runabout, and a few years ago, I opened up the foredeck, [ nicely done, NOT hacked] framed it, and had big plans of putting a casting deck on her, but never got around to it, just used it as is.. Transom wood is original, and is mostly hard, but there are a few soft spots.. However, several years ago the old man that owned it had it reinforced with new plywood on the outside, in the motor well, and all the seams were glassed, and a transom saver was installed.. It is VERY solid, NO issues, no flexing, and will last as long as the boat does... i know guys freak out unless the transom just had a $1500 rebuild, but this boat has been in some nasty rough water, and the transom is fine as is, and for it to flex, the entire back 1/3 of the boat would need to be ripped off.. We can take it for a test ride, no problem.. Motors come off, as does the color FF... I will consider selling the boat with the VERY good condition 100 HP Johnson for $1200, but as of right now I would prefer keeping it.. This boat would be fine with a 60 or 70 anyway... Trailer, is SOLID lights work, brand new tires, good winch, good jack, great rollers.. You don't even need to dunk the trailer.. I launch by cranking the winch handle backwards, and the boat slides off without even wetting the hubs.. anyway, there it is.. Not many 18 foot boats around with good trailers, for $400... All I am doing really is covering the cost of the new tires, and teleflex steering..... As I said, we can bring it to the river, and give it a water test,, pics to follow..., bob

I NEVER ever at any time, anywhere, see any fishermen on a boat wearing flotation.. Nice fishing vests they make these days that are light ,comfortable and will keep you alive... Being a good swimmer means little if you are 3 miles out without any boats around, and it means nothing at all if its April or early May and the water is 42 degrees... I swim like a cinder block, and wear my flotation jacket no matter where I am in a boat , even fishing for sunnies in 6 feet of water on a flat calm day in 75 degree water... i am so surprised to see so many otherwise smart fishermen never wear flotation even when alons in rough water.. I owe it to my family to come back home after a day on the water... Once you get used to it , you don't even notice you have one on.. A LOT more fishermen should wear a jacket... Just too many things can go wrong.. Half submerged logs full of spikes, rocks, /// A bellows goes out, thru hull breaks, hose breaks etc, and you sink , even in a ""safe"" boat with "level flotation"... Guys drown every year in well made, modern "safe " boats when something fails... Life vest should be worn not stowed in the cuddy... In any case, God rest his soul...bob

Value of 1977 Johnson 100 HP OB ? Join Date: Sep 2002 Location: Candor NY Posts: 252 Trader Rating: 0 value of a 1977 100 hp OB I am going to post a 1977 100 hp Johnson OB for sale locally here in NY state.. I really don't know its true value at all. Its pretty clean, not heavily used, fresh water use only, has new impeller, comes with power tilt, controls etc, runs clean and strong, and is really ready to go . I see none of these or similar OB's this age on ebay anymore, and know the age will perhaps scare most buyers off, and many will buy a newer motor with more use at triple the price because of the year... I have always loved OMC OB's from the 70's, have had several and they were always bulletproof, never an issue.. Any ideas for a realistic sale price on this???... Don't want to get knocked on the head too hard, and want to be fair.. I was thinking maybe $850 firm, including a water test if needed, or is that not a realistic expectation because of the age??.. any help would be appreciated..., btw, NOT trying to sell here yet, just getting ideas on value for when I do sell it .. bob

Should be a 10 fish limit on any one species, and maybe a 25 limit mixed bag.. 25 Perch , Sunfish, Crappie,, Rock Bass, White Perch White Bass etc is really plenty for anyone.. If you really need more than 25 panfish a day, you might want to rethink your dietary habits... i love panfish, and even 10 fish total bag would suffice for me personally, but thats still low.. I feel the 25 limit on mixed species is the way to go.. Just too many very good, very efficient anglers with a lot of leisure time and simply incredible space age equipment [GoPro Underwater video] these days... Its getting to the point that the fish just don't have a chance to get old and big... bob

Problem is, everyone culls the biggest and best.. When that happens you are eliminating the big breeders.. Its just human nature I guess.. I noticed the same thing years ago with Crappies in some lakes... Today some lakes with a lot of crappies, are loaded with 5-6 inchers, and very few keeper size.. Thick shouldered 12 inchers???.. good luck, in much of NY state these days.. They get taken and eaten every spring, as soon as they reach 9 inches.. Last time I went Crappie fishing this spring a 9 incher was hard to come by.. Same thing could happen to perch,, Just so many people after them these days.. bob
