  1. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Jersey Star ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):3/17 Time on Water:7:30-12:30 Weather/Temp:chilly and froggy Wind Speed/Direction: ENE? Waves: 1-2 Surface Temp:44-48 Location:I-bay LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 5 Total Boated:4 Species Breakdown:Browns Hot Lure: blue and silver stickbait Trolling Speed: 2.0-2.25? Down Speed: Boat Depth: 7-20 Lure Depth: 1-5 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS Launched out of I-Bay for the first trip of the year. Battery wouldn't do it at the launch, but a generous fellow angler let us borrow his jump box (thanks, man!) and we got under way. Headed east out of the bay toward Webster Park. Fished four lines off planer boards and one flatline straight out the back. Picked up 3 fish in about 45 minutes about 8:00-9:00 and thought we were going to have a 10+ fish day. All were in 12-17' of water. We fished 10-20'. 3 of the 4 four for the day came on various blue/silver stickbaits. Water over in that area is quite clear. Later we headed back toward the bay, but no action. Turned and hit another fish approaching Webster Park. Decided to head west to see if many of the other boaters we had seen at the launch had gone toward the Genny for muddy water/or the mudline. Didn't see much over there. Temp at the Genny mouth was 50.0. Trolled west and in but nothing. Still foggy, but the sun finally started to shine through a bit. Trolled back past the pier but still no action and we pulled for the day. Kept two 4.5 lbers for the grill. Back out tomorrow - probably hit the same area and hope for southerlies and some sun (chilly out there today!). ====================
  2. I'll take these and the other lot of 4 if Jay Jay doesn't. PM me for payment instructions. Thanks. Mark
  3. I don't think I've ever heard of anyone tripling up on pike! Awesome.
  4. Awesome fishing. With reports like this and the weather the way it is there will surely be many more boats on the water earlier this year.
  5. PMd and emailed. I'll take them.
  6. 42 fish? Awesome!!!
  7. Nice job! Great fall days to be out on the lake catching fish.
  8. Great report. My neighbor and I went down to Canandaigua only to find the State launch park closed. Decided not to run to the south end and tow the boat back toward home. Considered launching out of I-bay but I didn't know if the docks were still in and by then it was near 8:30 so we just towed her home. MISTAKE!!!! Nice going.
  9. Search the forums here for posts with "kayak" in the title and you will find some posts. I'm always impressed by the reports that those guys give.
  10. Helps a lot. Thanks for the post
  11. This border and port issue must get worked out. There was a fine paid recently by a boater in Canadian waters in the St. Lawrence (not anchored) where he also was given the choice of boat seizure or the fine. Some legislators have sought clarification of the rules by CA authorities. Here's one thread on this site discussing this: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=25179&hilit=canada Here's the official statement of the rules by the CA government. It comes from this page: http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications ... .html#s2x1 ************************* Private boats If you arrive in Canada aboard a private boat, you must proceed directly to the nearest designated telephone reporting marine site. Upon arrival in Canada, the master of the boat must report to the CBSA by calling 1-888-226-7277. The master of the boat will provide details of the voyage, the passengers and their declaration. No one except the master may leave the boat until authorized to do so by the CBSA. As proof of presentation, masters will be provided with a report number for their records. Masters must provide this number to a border services officer upon request. You do not have to report to the CBSA when you leave by private boat unless you are exporting goods that need to be documented. To get a list of the designated telephone reporting marine sites, call 1-888-226-7277 before you arrive in Canada. ************************** I think they need to define "arrive in Canada," in order to be clear at all on this rule, especially if they are going to argue that an unanchored, non-docked vessel in open water is subject to this rule.
  12. Nice report! Yes, a great shakedown.
  13. Nice going. We were out in the same area. Had two hits in the morning on the shoreline but nobody home by the time the rod was up. Worked out to 70-90' for that color change. Marked lots of fish but never got them to go.
  14. Nice looking boat. Is that your complete ad?
  15. Wow, glad it wasn't worse. Good to be reminded of the **** that can happen! Now you have to learn to reel with your left!
  16. I'll take them if Freeman doesn't. I'm local. MarkG
  17. Nice report, Spike. It's also nice to see you admit problems that I know I've struggled with- i.e., losing lures due to long lines (or leads, or leadcore line) that are running a little deeper than you thought. It's form of support, whether you know it or not, to report your troubles and challenges, as well as your successes, because some of us less-experienced folks can find it encouraging - to know that we're not the only ones that have screwups and cf#$%s once in a while! 18. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:yukiginger/the McQ ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):5/1 Time on Water:6 hours Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction:variable S or SSE Waves: <1 Surface Temp: 47 Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 3 Total Boated:2 Species Breakdown:1 steelhead, 1 small Atlantic Hot Lure: black and gold stickbait Trolling Speed: 2.0-2.5 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 8-20 Lure Depth: 1-5 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Pretty slow overall. Wondering if anyone else in the area worked their nets. Had all the action in probably a 1 1/2 hour span starting at about 9:00 I think. Tried hotter colors to no avail.
  19. So, I have a friend who respooled his downrigging rods last year with braid. (I don't know the brand or lb. test but I'm sure it's in the 15-20 lb. range.) He is not running any mono or flouro leader at any time from the main line to the swivel. This spring while Brown fishing I told him I think he needs to run mono or flouro leader or even respool some of his older line with 8-10 lb. mono and see if this would make a difference. I run braid on one of my dipsy rods (which doubles for muskie fishing) and I know some of you guys do, too, but I believe you would still always be running mono leaders to your lures. So, the poll questions are: 1. Would you run braid at all on your downrigger rods, especially for spring Brown trout fishing? 2. If you do run braid as the main line on downrigger setups would you run it without mono or fluoro leaders? Thank you for your answers.
  20. Nice meeting you and talking with you at the launch, W.W.IV. We hardly manage the lines with two or three anglers in the boat. I don't know how you solo guys do it!

Headed west toward the river. Set up in front of Durand Eastman. Boards, flatline and shallow rigger setup. 10 minutes in on westerly troll hit first fish on a blue/silver stickbait. 3 lb Brown. 10 minutes later fish on briefly same type of lure but threw it on first jump. Trolled to the river and out in front at the mudline. Didn't have a bump so headed back. When we got back near the east end of Durand hit another one - this time on a green razor spoon 5' down on the rigger. All fish were in 5-7' of water. Surface temp was fairly consistent and listed above. Be back out tomorrow and expect more boats out. Hey, maiden voyage and the skunk is out! ====================
