  1. I am looking for some advice. I have been to both locations but not in a long time. I found the bottom in Braddocks Bay last fall. I need a 13P SS Merc Mirage fixed up a bit and if they can go up 1 pitch to a 14 that would be awesome (not everyone can do that). Sodus is 30 min away Canandaigua is 1 hour +.. Thanks
  2. That video was the video that inspired me to try jigging in the lake.
  3. I am going to keep trying for sure. I actually have dropped anchor in 100 feet of water to "mess" around jigging. It got so hot that day and the water was gin clear, the girls wanted to jump in and swim. We all did and to my amazement, it is a good thing I tied 2 fenders to 25 feet of dock line and sent them out back. The top current was "invisible" till you jumped in and looked at the propeller in the water. It looked like the boat was in gear. The prop was spinning like crazy and the current drifted us all away from the boat as soon as we jumped in. We had to grab the fenders tied out back and pull ourselves back to the boat. If the boat was not attached to the bottom with the anchor we never would have noticed that current. But it was amazing how fast it was moving.
  4. I have tried this 4x now. Last year I watch a few YouTube videos of a guy off of Sodus jigging for lakers (I setup the same way). He did well. My problem, even with 1oz ocean jigs I can't get to the bottom with 8lb line. The current in the lake is moving fast. I drop the jig in 50 - 100 feet of water, only after I locate fish on the bottom, on the graph. Drop the jig and I watch it drop on the graph. At about 60 feet, it just takes off and never hits the bottom near your boat. If you don't let out enough line it will never touch the bottom. That makes it impossible to jig for them. The current catches the jig and it just moves horizontal. Does anyone have a fix for that.
  5. That information is not like what I read back when they started this project (Yes, a lot was for the wetlands). I was understanding that the project was built around moving the new channel and clearing all the old garbage out of the bay. This is why they are paying for a new groin jetty and have budgeted for continued dredging. Also starting this month according to recent data. I hope you are wrong about no attention to the channel. I like that launch ramp. I think it is the best in the county.
  6. I found the photos. I hit on 9/2/2017.
  7. Jason, I worked at this marina when I was in high school (I grew up off of Lowden Pt Rd). I worked for Red Grey in the early 80's, best job I ever had. With that said, I know this bay like the back of my hand. So, why would I need new instructions to navigate the new channel. Just follow the rules. Red / right return. Well, when launching my boat I was told keep right in both directions and the water was "sketchy". Thank god it was blowing hard and I was only going 10mph when I hit. But, when I got to the dock several people came up to look at my boat on the trailer and my lower unit and prop. They all had stories of night time and day time underwater accidents. Here is what I was told. The pipes for navigation were placed for the barge. The barge was in the east channel removing "Stuff". It placed the "stuff" in the west channel and never removed it (due to the high water and the barge was able to make more money on high water projects and never returned to finish the job it was paid to do). So, if you ever use the west channel it is full of old cement and railroad tracks and telephone pole stumps. This is what I was told, not what I can prove. Except I did hit there). There is no true USCG markings on anything. Just 12 (I think) white pipes. the outer pipes (east/west) were 6" or 8" in diameter (4 or 6 per side) and the middle pipes were aprox. 2" round. All white. So, what do you follow. I was going to take my outbound path back in but this day had 4+ footers and other boats in that channel. I took the westerly channel because it was full. That proved to be a BAD idea. What there should have been was two GIANT RED no-go signs attached the the outer markers indicating to all boaters that the west channel is closed for navigation and all vessels should use the east channel only. There should have been very good written instructions at the launch ramp on the use of the new channel. It should have also noted the hazards in the west channel if you were to stray over there. Just my .02 on that. Many people did 1000s of dollars in damage to their boats last summer. Several of them came and spoke with me while I was wiping my boat down.
  8. I got instructions on the new channel last August. I left and went fishing (stayed right) I was told to stay right returning. I smacked my prop and lower unit. Folks saw it happen and came over to talk to me. Told me they watched a boat loose both props on a twin a week prior. They hit and several others. I hit solid cement or rocks. I still have to take my prop in to get fixed and figure out what to do with the skag. It looks like someone took a bite out of it.
  9. I hate it if a fish dies and I can't remember the last one that did. I try not to take the big ones out of the water. If I do it is very quick, photo and release head first like a torpedo as deep as I can get it to go. If it comes back up and sometimes they do. I will back the boat to the fish, then gas the engine hard to create a whirlpool. That sucks the fish way down the water column to cold water, in heavy oxygenated water and always works for me. It may work for you as well of you are a catch and release angler.
  10. Look at my user name it is 180CCF that came from my Wellcraft 180 Center Console Fisherman. Between my father and myself we have had a lot of boats. That 180 was an AMAZING boat. I bought it brand new in 1999 from the dealer on the south end of I-Bay (McMillan Marine). It came with a 115 Johnson. It was just a spectacular boat that did everything. It could go to the beach with family or fish with the best of them. 3 - 5's will come over the bow at times. But, it has deck scuppers so it is not a problem. It is just a pain in the ass to steer in them waves in a small boat. It was well built and held up to everything I dished out. I treded it in for one with a cuddy in 2012. Some guy on the bay now owns it. The down side, you can't get out of the rain in a CC. It only had a bimini top. That s the only down side. EDIT: with the 115 Johnson it did 41mph on GPS and if I did it again I would get the 150 over the 115. But, that is what it had on it when the dealer ordered it.
  11. Do you know where you lost it. Put your favorite Harbor Freight LED flashlight and a GoPro together and send it down. Use WiFi direct and put the image on your tablet. You may find it. When you do, hook it and bring it up. Depending on where you lost it, 99% of the lake bottom is sand. Make a 20' wide drag bar, tie it to the transom and have a go at it.
  12. RD9 is this boat in MI? I was just interested in what a used rig like this would sell for (justifying the repair cost) and found one with the same exact cracks. I hope it is the same one. If not, that is a build problem with that model. For the price they are asking for this one in MI that transom must be fixed correctly by the seller.
  13. Nope, if fixed correctly the cracks should be fine (my guess is this boat was built before 800lb 4 strokes). I am not an expert in boat structure. I would take my boat to Great Lakes Marine in Sodus, NY. Even boats wrecked in FL are sent up to these guys (yes, FL with all the boat builders, sends boats to these guys). When they fix a boat, it is perfect and better than new. EDIT: I would also send them photos directly to Boston Whaler. They will tell you exactly what you should do.
  14. I would have an independent shop have a good look at the Mercs. If they are 2010 or older they have the 4.8" gear case not the larger 5.44 case which was made (came out in 2011) because the larger boats like this Whaler would tear them up. There is also a lot going on in a supercharged, injected, fly-by-wire Verado. A few dollars upfront from a skilled Merc mechanic may save you thousands down the road. The transom will need to come apart for the repair to be done right. It should be brought to a competent shop for that work (one you approve of). Once completed it may be better than new. I am surprised it failed. Whalers are some of the toughest boats ever.
  15. Quickleen is very much like SeaFoam. I would also put it right there with Yamaha's ring free. All excellent products and all of them work like magic.
  16. Mercury makes a product call Quickleen it is AMAZING. Mix it in your fuel and it removes carbon. I have a Vaerado 250 and when I troll long it will top out at 5700 RPM. Add the Quickleen and run it. Within and hour it is back to 6300. I have a bore scope and you can see what is inside the cylinders before and after. It works like magic. Now that I know it works I buy in bulk in the big jugs from the Verado Club Parts. I mix it in on almost every fill up. It is pretty expensive, but really works.

Sweet boat man, I have the same model just a bit newer. That looks to be in fantastic shape.
  18. Oh, mine does that when I am saving my position to the flash card or have structure scan turned on (make sure your structure scan is turned off). No sure on yours I have an HDS-8 G2. It saves the black part to the card and you can go online and upload the data to a web site and it makes wicked detailed maps of our local lake bottom. Look for a setting called structure map.
  19. touch and HOLD your finger on the any part of the menu bar for 1 second, then swipe to the right without lifting finger and it should work.
  20. Low Baller, you the same guy who busted two Okuma's near Wilson, I think. Or are you, now another guy who has had his Okuma break. The guy I read last week had 2 break at the same spot on the rod. I really like Okuma stuff and had these rods in my hands at Dick's last week.
  21. 7.5 max HP Kicker motor mount and steering assembly I have a kicker motor bracket assembly for sale. Not sure of the age. I am guessing from the 80's as i remember it on Dad's boat. It has the tiller arm to attach to your outdrive so you can steer it from the helm. It looks to be in great shape if someone is interested I can go take photos and get you more info. I dropped it off in my storage place. It looks like a Spar Marine raise/lower bracket. The steering looks to be something like the EZ-Steer quick connect.
  22. If you can't find ZEP or want an alternative, checkout "The Works" toilet bowl cleaner. I am crazy about a clean boat. I have acid washed every year (I am over 50). 2 years ago a fellow boater told me to give this stuff a shot. It was insane. My 3/4" rug fell right off and the coffee stain was also gone. Boat looked like it came out of the mold. Best part, is that is cost $1.75 at Big Lots or $2.00 at Lowes. The bottles are pretty large and 2 bottles did my 23 footer, one on each side with a 3/4" rug. I applied it with a floor mop (old school sponge head). I have had both galvanized and aluminium trailers. None of this stuff is good for them. My tip to you is put a lawn sprinkler under the middle of the boat after you are done. Let it run for a few hours. It flushes any leftover acids away from the metal and out of the bunks. I have never had any etching issues on either trailer doing this.
  23. Found it, no more than 3 poles or 15 hook points. Angling Angling means taking fish by hook and line. This includes bait and fly fishing, casting, trolling and the use of landing nets to complete the catch. Anglers must be in immediate attendance when their lines are in the water. An angler may operate no more than three lines with or without a rod. each line is limited to not more than five lures or baits or a combination of both. in addition, each line shall not exceed 15 hook points in any combination of single, double or treble hooks. Snatching, lifting, hooking and use of tip-ups are not angling.
  24. I thought they changed it a few years back. It is no longer the number of poles. It is the number of hook points I thought. So 3 poles was legal if you had under the limit of points. I'll have to look it up to get the right number of hook points.
