I bought one used also. I love that thing... when it works. It's been a great rigger and IMO one of the best riggers ever made. They are awesome riggers. The computer on top, has different modes, you can control the speed it goes down or up, they swim up and down while trolling if you want, they also have the electric fish system in them (not sure what you really call it). They will also stop when the cable breaks the water surface as it knows it is out of the water. Whatever you do, DO NOT OPEN it unless your ready to pour oil all over your garage floor. They may also spring a leak every now and again. The units are filled with oil. The circuit board, motor and everything inside is oil packed. If one of yours acts like it is dead, but the display fires up, manually move the spool and it will get the motor working. Sometimes the oil kills the contact after sitting for months. Someplace I have the user guide (not sure where it is right now). Good luck with them, I love my Lake Systems.

We need a little more info. Ontario, Canada? Ontario, NY in Wayne County or Ontario County, NY. If your in NY then take it to Great Lakes Marine in Sodus Bay. They are a fist class joint. I know of several boats that needed their services over the years and all are happy.

West Marine has it in stock, you can go pull the stuff you want and see it before you buy it. Make sure you use fully tinned wire. If you don't it turns black and corrodes over time (fairly short time).

I have a new 2011, 2302 WA Trophy Pro with the factory extended hard top. I love it. It has full canvas for the rain days and when I am not on the boat. It does not come with an E-box overhead. There was enough room to mount the Lowrance HDS-8 in the dash. I don't need any other electronics. The VHF is down and to the right. All other motor related stuff is up on top in it's own pod. If yours will take a hard top, do it. Or see what you can get for a trade in on yours and upgrade to the 2302. It's a bit bigger and comes with everything your looking for. If you do get a hard top, I would call Trophy and ask them if it's OK to mount it. Mine has special molded in and reinforced spots everyplace it attaches to my upper deck. Also get the extended version. Much dryer ride.

Great Lakes Marine out in Sodus. They are experts in these repairs. My dad had his 350 ray in last winter for full stringer replacement. Pulled both motors and rigging, plus the 8kw genset. All the work came out perfect and came in at under 5000.00.

I traded in my old boat and I have a real 648XL in my hands as I type this. I kept the card as that was not part of my trade in. Price on the box says 185.00 make me an offer and it's yours. It does not work in the new Lowrance HDS-8 Gen-2. The card is in the original package with all my sales paperwork with it.

I ran a single inboard tug at the marina I worked at in the 80's. That was a pretty steep learning curve before the marina owner would let me take it alone. You have to remember the rudder does not really work in tight quarters so you have to learn to blip the throttle hard to wash the rudder to get it to turn. If you have a bow thruster that helps. I'm not 100% sure on this but I think single come with a much larger rudder to help with the super slow turning. With that said, a trawler style boat with a displacement hull has a max hull speed. A single 90hp inboard diesel will push it to its max speed and save a lot of fuel. The older I get the more I like the trawler style.

Thinking about going out tomorrow morning my self or with Dad. I have not purchased new riggers for my new boat. Not sure what ones I want yet. I want to sell the 4 I have first. My question is, will my dipsy's even go down 80'. I don't run wire or copper. Just quick and simple mono-dipsy. I think you call them #0 dipsys with the ring. how deep will they go.

My HDS-8 Gen2 works like a champ with the 83/200 stock ducer that came with it. The one thing I had to do is change the ducer setting to DEEP WATER TROLLING. That made all the difference in the world. Before I found that setting, it would loose bottom in 100 - 150 feet of water. Once I made the change, it's picking up the thermocline, bait balls, and fish hooks. I have not installed riggers on the new boat and most likely will not till next year (so I don't know about seeing the rigger balls). Still not sure what models I want. I am selling off my 4 old ones first.

I want to try before I buy a Mercury 14x17P Revolution 4 prop. I have a 16x13P from the factory with a 250 Verado. That is just not the right prop for my setup. The prop gods tell me the 14x17P Rev 4 should be perfect, but after testing I may need the 15P version. I need to try out the 17P first. I can't find anyone in Rochester with one new or used.

I have a setting on my HDS-8 Gen2. I forget which one of the 500 menu items it was in but I am sure it's under the sonar settings. I lost bottom often in 150' of water. When I changed the setting to DEEP WATER TROLLING it worked like a champ. Mine was set on SHALLOW WATER from the factory. There is also SALTWATER, CLEAR WATER, FAST TROLLING... A bunch of settings, I now use that setting if I am in the bay or out deep. It worked for me. I also am not sure if the GEN-1 has these options. It's worth a look. BTW, I have replaced 3 Lowrance ducers in the past 10 years. Lowrance was always nice enough to send me them at no charge.

What Jack said, except I do a 3/4" hole with a clam shell and filled it with 4200. This way, you have enough room to add a second "device" if you ever wanted to. You can get a second Lowrance connector through there. Like my install, I did not put the HD Structure Scan transducer on yet (because it's another 600.00 on top of the 2000.00 I paid for the unit). But, I will be, when I do, I will carve out the 4200 and push the big connector through the 3/4" hole and be done with it.

You can run Seafoam in every tank of fuel. Do a google search on it. It's not snake oil but it sure does sound like it. I actually have 8 bottles in my garage right now (got them on sale for 7 dollars each). That stuff is like magic. I run it a lot and I store my motors with it. They make a spray called deep creep that I use for fogging the motor in the fall and on the air tools. You can add a bottle to your fuel and it will start working while your fishing. Don't hesitate it's great stuff and will never hurt your motor get started now. I think Seafoam should pay me as a spokes person.

Did you pull carbs and do a simple cleaning. Most likely that is the issue. If you want to try one more thing prior to pulling carbs, add a strong dose of seafoam to your fuel (even mix it special and run it and let it sit over night in the carbs from a small tank). That stuff works magic. It's not snake oil, it really does fix a lot of sticking and stuck carb stuff. It's also good for the rings. I have personally watched it solve rough idle and poor running snowmobiles, snowblowers, tractors, mowers, outboards, cars, trucks. It will smoke, but then you know it is doing it's job. If that does not fix it, you need to buy a carb kit and rebuild the carbs.

@fishaddict This is a hard question to answer I just did a bunch or research on this same question. I installed the HDS-8 Gen-2, 2 weeks ago with the 83/200. In all the stuff I read and called Lowrance, the 83/200 is perfect for what we do around here. The 50 gets a little deeper, but we never get deeper than 600 feet around here. The 83 is good to 900 feet from the factory. It also gives you better resolution than the 50. It has a super wide cone angle as well, 35* if I remember. The 200 is best for short water and has a narrower cone angle something like 12* so it sees less area under the boat but has fantastic resolution. So far I am very happy with my choice. This is my $.02

Don't forget if it is a good antenna, the wire is wrapped inside the glass. It is wrapped with a specific length and number of twist. A good antenna is between 80 and 100 dollars. It's better to just replace it. You can always tell the good antenna from the bad, just shake it. If it makes noise put it back and get the better one. The cheap ones have a single run of coax slipped up the center, so they make noise and are crappy. If your antenna is broken you also risk the chance of blowing the output stage on your radio if the "txmit load" has been compromised.

I would use your pressure washer. Some may say try a little acid, but I would never use it on the metal outdrive (my new Verado has a NO ACID sticker right on it). Don't use a green scrungy pad either. You may also find that if you take it to the beach, get out and scrub it in the water will go a long way. Pulling it and letting it dry on the outdrive on your way home makes it a lot harder to remove.

Heard the same thing. All my friends that paid for docks at bbm got slips from Steve in the river. Friend went out last weekend and said 1 foot at the second sand bar 100 feet past the last markers in the lake.

Thanks for the info Mark. I think you and I must be neighbors. I am just north of Klem between Holt and 250. I am going to look at all my stuff. I don't think I should be buying more stuff. I have 1000's of dollars in tackle and over 30 rods. I have been fishing for these fish since the 70's we did real well when my dad lived in Stony Point and we went out 3 times a week. I even won a boat/motor/trailer in one derby. I just have not fished for them in 5 years. I want to get out and fish tomorrow not screw around with another person on my boat. That is what makes this board so good. I can get the local info that can put me right where I need to be. Then.... it's all up to me and my skills. As for the 3 rods per person.. when did that change? Is there still a max hook point limit? I think it was something like 12 hook points. Thanks again for everyone's help. Now it's up to me.

Can I buy all this stuff at B&E. I have meat rigs but they are on my dad's boat. He is in Paris right now. I am bringing out people that have never seen these fish. I am not a big fan of meat or flys. I have always done my best on NK mags or J-plugs this time of year. I have 3 boxes (500+ spoons) and several J-plugs. If the flys, meat is a real winner I will go to B&E tomorrow and get what is working. I want my friends to catch fish. There is nothing like the thrill of these big boys. Thanks for the good info.
